IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
WARNING! When using electric tools, machines or equipment, basic safety
precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of re, electric
shock and personal injury.
READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING THIS TOOL
1. KNOW YOUR POWER TOOL. Read and understand this manual and any
label attached to the tool. Learn the applications, limitations, and potential hazards associated with its use.
2. KEEP WORK AREA CLEAN. Cluttered areas invite injuries.
ENGLISHFRANÇAIS
3. CONSIDER WORK AREA ENVIRONMENT. Don’t use power tools in damp,
wet, or poorly lit locations. Don’t expose your tool to rain. Keep the work
area well lit. Don’t use tools in the presence of ammable gases, liquids, and potentially explosive dust. Keep a suitable re extinguisher handy and know
how to use it.
4. GUARD AGAINST ELECTRIC SHOCK. Prevent body contact with grounded
surfaces: pipes, radiators, ranges, and refrigerator enclosures. When drilling into walls, oors, or wherever “live” electrical wires may be encountered, try to ascertain whether there is a danger of shock. Even so, DO NOT TOUCH THE CHUCK OR ANY METAL PARTS OF THE DRILL. Hold the tool only by the
plastic handle to prevent electric shock in case you hit a live wire.
5. KEEP CHILDREN AND PETS AWAY. All children should be kept away from
the work area. Don’t let them handle machines, tools or extension cords.
6. DON’T FORCE THE TOOL. It will do the job better and more safely, as well as
give a longer life and better service, at the rate for which it was intended.
7. USE THE RIGHT TOOL. Don’t force a small tool or attachment to do the work
of a larger industrial tool. Don’t use a tool for a purpose for which it was not
intended.
8. DRESS PROPERLY. Don’t wear loose clothing or jewelry: they can be caught
in moving parts. Protective, non-electrically conductive gloves and non-skid footwear are recommended when working. Wear protective hair covering to contain long hair and keep it from harm.
9. USE EYE PROTECTION at all times while using this machine. Wear ANSI-
approved safety glasses. Use a full face mask if the work you’re doing produces metal lings, dust or wood chips.
10. USE HEARING PROTECTION, especially during periods of extended use.
11. FOOTWEAR Where there is a risk of heavy objects hitting your feet or of
slipping on wet or greasy oors, wear non-slip safety footwear.
12. HEAD GEAR Where there is risk of falling objects or of hitting your head on
protruding obstructios at a low level, wear a hard hat.
13. BREATHING PROTECTION. Wear a clean dust mask if the work involves
creating a lot of ne or coarse dust Be sure that you are protected from the dust produced by your use of this tool. Dust masks must be equipped with lters appropriate for the material.
14. DO NOT ABUSE THE CORD. Never carry your tool by the cord or pull on the
cord to unplug it. Protect the cord from potential sources of damage: heat, oil and solvents, sharp edges, or moving parts. Replace damaged cords
immediately.
15. WHEN WORKING OUTDOORS, USE AN OUTDOOR-RATED EXTENSION CORD. An extension cord rated for outdoor use must be marked “W-A” or “W”.
16. DO NOT EXPOSE ELECTRICAL POWER TOOLS TO MOISTURE. Rain or wet conditions can cause water to enter the tool and lead to electric shock.
17. EXTENSION CABLES AND REELS. Do not use a 2-wire extension cord
for tools which have a ground prong on the plug. A grounded plug requires a 3-wire extension cord capable of carrying the grounding to earth. When using
extension cords on a reel, always unwind the cord from the reel completely or
dangerous heating and tool damage may take place.

20. MAINTAIN TOOLS WITH CARE. Keep tools sharp and clean for better and
safer performance. Follow instructions for lubricating and safe performance. Follow instructions for lubricating and changing accessories. Keep handles dry, clean and free from oil and grease.
21. DISCONNNECT THE TOOL FROM POWER when not in use, before
servicing, making any adjustments, or changing accessories. Changing attachments or accessories can be dangerous if the tool accidentally starts.
22. AVOID UNINTENTIONAL STARTING. Don’t carry tool with a nger on or near the trigger. Be sure the On/Off switch is in the Off position when plugging the
tool into the power supply.
23. STAY ALERT. Watch what you are doing and use common sense. Don’t
operate any tool when you are tired.
24. STORE IDLE EQUIPMENT. Store equipment in a dry area to inhibit rust. Equipment also should be in a high location or locked up to keep out of reach
of children.
25. SECURE WORK. Use clamps or a vise to hold the work if possible. It’s safer than using your hands and it frees both hands to operate the tool.
26. REMOVE ADJUSTING KEYS AND WRENCHES. Make it a habit to check that keys and adjusting wrenches are removed from any rotating tool before using.
27. MODIFYING A POWER TOOL in any way or using any attachment other than those recommended in this manual could result in damage to the tool and
injury to the operator.
28. CHECK FOR DAMAGED PARTS. Before using this tool, any part that is damaged should be carefully checked to determine that it will operate properly and perform its intended function. Check for mis-alignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and mountings and for other conditions
that may affect tool operation. Check bits to make sure they are sharp and
not chipped. Inspect screws and tighten any that are loose. Any part that is damaged should be properly repaired or replaced by an authorized service center unless otherwise indicated elsewhere in the instruction manual. Have
defective switches replaced by an authorized service center. Don’t use the tool if switch does not turn on and off properly.
29. REPLACEMENT PARTS. When servicing, use only identical replacement
parts.

OPERATING PROCEDURES
WARNING!
= Ensure that you have read and understood all the Safety Instructions at the
beginning of this manual before operating this tool.
= Ensure the on/off switch is NOT locked in the on position before connecting to
the power supply.
1. Hold the tool rmly off the work surface with one hand on the rear hand grip and the other on the forward d-handle.
2. With your thumb, rotate speed control wheel (D, g.1) to select the
ENGLISHFRANÇAIS
approximate setting desired.
3. With your index nger, squeeze the trigger (F, g.1) and hold it in the On
position.
4. When the tool is running at the correct, speed, lower it gently onto the surface.
5. Lift the tool carefully off the surface before turning it off.
= You can lock the trigger in the On position by pressing the Trigger lock-on
button (E, g.1) with your thumb while holding the trigger in. You can now release the trigger and the tool will continue to run. This helps prevent fatigue during jobs of long duration.
= The trigger lock can be released if desired by again pushing in the trigger. = The spindle rotation speed can be varied from 600 to 3,000 rpm by rotating
the speed control wheel. Higher speeds are represented on the wheel by the higher numbers, generally for sanding. Lower speeds are produced when the wheel is turned to expose the lower numbers. It is these lower speeds that are most desirable for polishing. Bufng larger areas allows you to move the tool more widely and continually, and this might also allow you to run the machine at a somewhat higher rotation speed. Normally, high rotation speeds can lead to accidentally burning through the paint on a surface.
MAINTENANCE
WARNING! Before attempting any maintenance, be sure the tool is disconnected
from the power supply.
= Keep the tool clean using a soft damp (not wet) cloth. Do not use solvents on
the plastic parts. Do not use abrasives.
= Check that external screws are tight. = Clean the ventilation slots regularly with a jet of air to prevent the tool
overheating.
= Lubrication is not necessary. After long use, have an authorized service center
maintain and lubricate the tool.
= Any internal maintenance on this tool must be carried out by a qualied
technician.
