OPERATION
The HDDS Master Control Module is the Master control center for distributed sound
systems using the HDDS technology. The Master Control Module includes six zones
that can be used independently or can be linked to work together allowing the system
designer the flexibility to set up any system with the desired configuration. The block
diagram below shows the basic configuration of the HDDS SB112 Wall Mount
Subwoofer. The subwoofer receives power and audio over a CAT6 cable connected to
the Master Control Module, internally converts the AC power to plus / minus 15VDC and
30VDC to power the amplifier. The audio signal is fed to a precision differential
amplifier to remove any common mode noise, filtered with a crossover circuit to
produce a low pass and high pass signal, equalized and fed to D-CAT Dynamic Adaptive
Amplifier power amplifier circuits to drive the woofer. The woofer section will
dynamically increase the positive and negative power supply rails as required based on
the audio signal. The output swing can exceed 120 volts and can deliver over 220 watt
continuous power to the woofer. The HDDS SB112 includes a rear panel level
adjustment that allows simple balancing of installed systems.
The HDDS SB112 requires connection to the Master Control Module with CAT6 cable in
order to handle the current of the HDDS SB112. A single run of CAT6 can be used if
the cable length does not exceed 100 feet. If the required cable run exceeds 100 feet a
second run of CAT6 should be run between the Master Control Module and the HDDS
SB112 cabinet. The HDDS SB112 cabinet includes a rear panel mounted blue LED
power indicator, which illuminates when power being fed to the cabinet.
DO NOT CONNECT THE CAT6 INPUT CABLE BETWEEN THE MASTER CONTROL MODULE AND
THE INPUT OF THE HDDS SB112 SUBWOOFER WHEN THE POWER ON THE MASTER CONTOL
MODULE IS SWITHED ON! THE MASTER CONTROL MODULE MUST BE SWITCHED OFF PRIOR
TO CONNECTION. THE HDDS SB112 MUST BE POWERED ON WITH SYMETTRICAL POWER IN
ORDER TO CHARGE BOTH POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE INTERNAL POWER SUPPLIES. FAILURE TO
POWER DOWN THE MASTER CONTROL MODULE PRIOR TO CONNECTION TO THE HDDS SB112
MAY CAUSE POSSIBLE DAMMAGE TO THE HDDS SB112 OR THE CONTACTS PINS OF THE CAT6
CABLE DUE TO LARGE NON-SYMETRICAL INRUSH CURRENT.
Rear Panel
The rear panel POWER LED will light when power is applied from the Master Control
Module. The rear panel of the HDDS SB112 includes two RJ45 input connectors, both
for connection to a Master Control Module. A single run of Category 6 cable can be
used if the maximum length of CAT6 cable does not exceed 100 feet. Two Category 6
cables should be connected between the Master Control Module and Input A and Input
B if the HDDS SB112 is more than 100 feet away from the Master Control Module. Do
not connect another cabinet to the second RJ45 connector since this would exceed the
maximum current handling capabilities of the CAT6 cable. The maximum run length of
cable should not exceed 300 ft even with dual input CAT6 cable runs.
The HDDS SB112 will typically pull less than 2 amps of current from the output of the
Master Control Module at average listening levels. At maximum or peak level the HDDS
2210 can pull in excess of 4 amps of current. If maximum output power is desired it is
recommended to limit the length of CAT6 cable run to no more than 50 feet or use dual
cable runs. Longer runs of CAT6 cable will reduce the maximum output power of the
HDDS SB112. Connect the HDDS SB112 to any of the A, B or C outputs on the rear of
the HDDS Master Control Module as shown below. Do not connect more than two
HDDS SB112 subwoofers per zone on the Master Control Module. If long cable runs are
used requiring dual cables to connect the HDDS SB112 the zone can only power a
single HDDS SB112 subwoofer.
SUBWOOFER POWER:
The HDDS system distributes low voltage Alternating Current over the CAT6 cable plus
high level balanced audio and is capable of greater than 220 watts continuous power
per HDDS SB112 subwoofer. Each of the three outputs A, B and C are capable of
delivering up to 7 amps of output current. The current consumption at full power will
require over 4 Amps of power per subwoofer. In order to allow the full 220 watts of
power do not exceed 50 feet of cable length or connect a second run of CAT6 cable
between the Master Control Module and the HDDS SB112 subwoofer. The CAT6 cable
will start to limit the total power of the HDDS SB112 once you exceed 50 feet of cable.
CAT6 Connections
The figure below shows the connections for each output A, B and C of each zone output
on the Master Control Module and also connections between each HDDS SB112
subwoofer. Connections are done via standard CAT6 cables where pins 1 through 8 are
connected common to the same pins 1 through 8 at each end. As shown below two
wires in the Cable are used for balanced audio and 6 wires are used for power with two
providing ground and two for each of two 22VAC power signals fed down the cable.
Mounting the HDDS SB112
Refer installation to a qualified installer to ensure proper mounting to overhead
structures. The HDDS SB112 includes a TV mounting bracket for easy install. Follow
the mounting instructions included in the separate bracket mounting instructions
included with the HDDS SB112.
