PRECAUTIONS
Please refer all work related to the installation of this product to
qualified service personnel or system installers. Do not operate the appliance beyond its specified temperature, humidity
or power source ratings.
Use the appliance at temperature within 0oC ~ +50oC (32oF ~ 1 2 2oF) and humidity below 85%.
The input power source for this appliance is +12 or +24 VDC for the outer chamber and +5 VDC for the inner DVR host.
Performance and lifetime of hard disk drives are easily affected by heat (used at high temperature). It is recommended to use this appliance at temperature within +20oC ~ +30oC (68oF ~ 86oF)
Handle the hard disk drives with care.
It is possible to damage them if they are moved while their motors are still running. Do not move them just after turning the power on or off (for around 30 seconds). Protect the hard disk drives from static electricity. Do not stack them or keep them upright. Do not use an electric screwdriver to fix them. Clean only with dry cloth.
Do not block any ventilation openings.
Do not use the appliance near any heat sources such as radiators, heat
registers, stoves or other apparatus that produce heat. Protect the power cord from being stepped on or pinched particularly at plugs,
convenient receptacles and the points where they exit from the apparatus. Do not drop metallic parts through slots. This could permanently damage the
appliance. Turn the power off immediately and contact qualified service personnel for service. Handle the appliance with care. Do not strike or shake, as this may damage
the appliance. Do not expose the appliance to water or moisture, nor try to operate it in wet
areas. Do take immediate action if the appliance becomes wet. Turn the power off and refer servicing to qualified service personnel. Moisture may damage the appliance and also cause electric shock. Do not use strong or abrasive detergents when cleaning the appliance body.
When the dirt is hard to remove, use a mild detergent and wipe gently. Do not overload outlets and extension cords as this may result in a risk of fire
or electric shock. Please make a note of your settings and save them. This will help when you
are required to change the system configuration, or when unexpected failure or trouble occurs. Distributing, copying, disassembling, reverse compiling, reverse engineering,
and also exporting in violation of export laws of the software provided with this product, is expressly prohibited.

1. Product Overview
The IM-DVR-04P/08P digital video/audio recorder is designed for use within a surveillance system for all kinds of vehicles including boats, coaches, and plant, and are a combination of a hard disk recorder, a video multiplexer, and a web server. To achieve the highest inter-connectivity and inter-operability, this digital video/audio recorder is based on industry-leading front-end to back-end surveillance infrastructure. With state-of-the-art system architecture, powerful compression/ decompression engine, and intelligent recording algorithms, sixfold operation can be easily achieved without sacrificing the increasing demands of functionality, performance, reliability, and availability in the surveillance industry.

2. Panels and Remote Controller
2.1 Front Panel
1. LEDs – Power, LAN, HDD, Video Loss, Failure Indicators for POWER, LAN access, HDD access, Video Loss, and HDD Failure.
2. I/R Sensor Used to receive I/R signal from I/R remote controller.
3. Left/Right Buttons (,) In PTZ control, press these buttons to pan the camera. In playback mode, press these buttons for fast backward/forward. In the other screens, press these buttons to move the cursor or focus window.
4. Up Button () Press this button to move the cursor or focus window in most circumstances. In PTZ control, press this button to tilt up the camera.
5. Down/Step Button (/ ) Press this button to move the cursor or focus window in most circumstances. In PTZ control, press this button to tilt down the camera. In playback mode, press this button for single step.
6. ENTER Button This button is used as “enter” key in most circumstances. In PTZ control,

this button is used to start/stop the selected PTZ control mode.
7. (Split Windows) +/- Buttons (+/-) In split-window display, press “+” for next split-window display, press “-“ for CALL. In the others, press these buttons to change the contents.
8. MENU / ESC Button Press this button to display the main menu or escape to the upper level display.
9. Stop ( ) / PTZ Button Press this button to stop the playback. While not playing in main screen display, press this button to enter/exit PTZ control if the focus camera is a PTZ camera.
10.Play/Pause Button ( ) Press this button to play the recorded images, or pause the playback. It
can also be used to display the search menu in main screen display.
11.Copy( ) / CALL Button Press this button to copy the playback images to the storage device connected to the SD slot or USB port. Press this button again to stop copying. In some dialogs, this button is used as a miscellaneous function key.
12.MODE Button Press this button to toggle between live mode and playback mode in main screen display. In some dialogs, this button is used as a miscellaneous function key. During playback, this button is used as “slow backward”.
13.Alpha-numeric Buttons (1-4) Press these buttons for camera selection in most of the circumstances. These buttons can also be used to enter text and number.
14.Key Lock
Key lock for the DVR host in the outer chamber. Unlock to detach the DVR host from the outer chamber. It’s also used as the power switch of
the DVR host, lock for ON and unlock for OFF. If the DVR is running when the key is unlocked, the internal buzzer will be triggered until the power is turned off
15.Front Door Conceal Ethernet connector, USB Connector, and SD slot.
16.Ethernet Connector

Connect this unit to a 10/100Base-T Ethernet network through this port.
17.USB connector (USB) Connect to USB 2.0 compatible storage device, such as USB 2.0 disk drive, DVD+RW, card reader, etc. Please note that the maximum USB
current for the DVR is 500 mA.
18.SD slot Used to insert SD card for backup.
19.Handle Used to pull out the DVR host after the key is unlocked.

2.2 Back Panel (DVR Host)

1. PS/2 Mouse Connector – only used for DVR host alone Connect to PS/2 mouse.
2. Main Monitor Output VGA Connector (VGA, optional) – only used for
DVR host alone
Connect VGA monitor to the optional D-SUB 15-pin female connector for main monitor display.
3. Outer Chamber Signal Connector Connect to the PCB in the outer chamber when the DVR host is placed in the outer chamber.
4. Main Monitor Output Connectors (VIDEO OUT) – only used for DVR
host alone
Connect TV monitor to the BNC connector for main monitor display.
5. Audio Output Connectors (AUDIO OUT 1-2) – only used for DVR host
alone
These connectors supply line-out audio signals to external devices such as speakers. Recorded audio will be supplied from AUDIO OUT during playback.
6. NTSC/PAL Selector Switch Set this unit to NTSC or PAL according to the local TV system.
7. Power Inlet (5V IN) – only used for DVR host alone
Connect to +5VDC power source.

2.3 Back Panel (Outer Chamber)
1. Video In/Out & I/R Remote Connector Connect to Video In/Out & I/R Remote Cable. (See Diagram Below for DVR08 Video Connections)
2. Audio In/Out & Y/C Out Connector Connect to Audio In/Out & Y/C Out Cable.
3. Main Monitor Output VGA Connector (VGA, optional) Connect VGA monitor to the optional D-SUB 15-pin female connector for main monitor display.
4. RS-232 Connector (RS-232 #1, RS-232 #2 (optional)) Connect this connector to PTZ camera(s) or GPS sensor.
5. Alarm Output Connectors (ALARM OUT 1-2) Connect these connectors to 1 Normally Closed (NC) alarm outputs (1) and 1 Normally Open (NO) alarm outputs (2).
6. RS-485 Connector Connect this connector to RS-485 compatible PTZ camera(s). Please refer to the manuals come with the RS-485 compatible devices for the correct settings.
7. Alarm Input Connectors (ALARM IN 1-4) Connect these connectors to external devices such as sensors or door switches.

8. Car Speed Input Connector Connect this connector to car speed pulse signal.
9. Delay On Output Connectors (DELAY ON 30A) Connect to the other vehicle devices to avoid excess power consumption at ignition. Please refer to Section 3.2 Optional Connections for the connections.
10.Power Inlet (POWER 12-24V) Connect to +12 or +24VDC power source. Please refer to Section 3.2

2.6 Remote Controller
The remote controller is an optional accessory to ease the user’s operations. You can do all the operations by the remote controller instead of the buttons on the front panel. Besides, the user needs to use remote controller to do some advanced operations. The effective distance is about 10 meters without any obstacle.

Most of the buttons corresponds to one of those buttons on the front panel. Please refer to the descriptions in Section 2.1. For the other buttons, the descriptions are as below:
1. Alpha-numeric Buttons (1-9, 0, *, #) Press these buttons for camera selection in most of the circumstances. These buttons can also be used to enter text and number in the way similar to most of the mobile phones.
2. SEQ Button Press this button to switch to or return from SEQ display mode in main screen display. In some dialogs, this button is used as a miscellaneous function key.
3. CALL Button Press this button to switch to or return from full screen display of the focus

camera in main screen display. In some dialogs, this button is used as a miscellaneous function key.
4. SEARCH Button Press this button to display the search menu in main screen display. In some dialogs, this button is used as a miscellaneous function key.
5. Alarm Reset Button Press this button to cancel alarm activation, and return the system to the condition before the alarm was activated.
6. REC Button Press this button to force manual recording. To stop manual recording, press it again.
7. Up/BS Button (/BS) Press this button to move the cursor or focus window in most circumstances. In PTZ control, press this button to tilt up the camera. In text editing mode, this button is used as “backspace” key.
8. Down/DEL Button (/DEL) Press this button to move the cursor or focus window in most circumstances. In PTZ control, press this button to tilt down the camera. In text editing mode, this button is used as “del” key.
9. ESC/PTZ Button In main screen display, press this button to enter/exit PTZ control if the focus camera is a PTZ camera. In the other displays, press this button to escape to the upper level display.
10.MUTE/NEXT Button In PTZ control, press this button for the next miscellaneous control. In the other screens, press this button to mute the audio.
11.X2/GOTO Button In PTZ control, press this button to move the camera to the preset position. In full screen display, press this button for Digital Zoom (X2/X4).
12.(Vol/Zoom) +/- Buttons ( / / ) In PTZ control, press these buttons to zoom in/out the camera.

3. Installations
The installations described below should be made by qualified service personnel or system installers.
3.1 Basic Connections
Please refer to the following diagram for the connections.
Please make sure to set the NTSC/PAL Selector Switch on the back panel of the inner DVR host according to the local TV system for the system to work correctly.
Cameras
Connect the Video In/Out & I/R Remote Connector to the video outputs from system cameras or other composite video sources via Video In/Out & I/R
Remote Cable. The internal 75Ω termination is always ON.
Main monitor
Connect the Video In/Out & I/R Remote Connector to a surveillance TV monitor via Video In/Out & I/R Remote Cable, the Audio In/Out & Y/C Out Connector to a surveillance TV monitor via Audio In/Out & Y/C Out Cable, or the optional VGA connector to a VGA monitor. The TV/VGA monitor displays selected live or recorded cameras in any available split window format.

Hard disk drive
Make sure to install one 2.5” SATA hard disk (Max. storage size 1TB) inside the DVR. The steps are as below:
1. Unlock the DVR host, and then pull out the DVR host. (If the DVR host is
connected with +5VDC power supply, please disconnect the power supply.)
2. Use a screwdriver to uncover the DVR host.
3. Use a screwdriver to fix the SATA HDD as shown.
4. Use a screwdriver to fix the HDD rack in the DVR host as shown.
5. Connect the cables, and use tape to fix the cable connectors firmly as shown.
6. Cover the DVR host.
7. Place the DVR host inside the outer chamber and lock the DVR host if

necessary.
Note 1: The HDD must be formatted before it can be used to record video/
audio. Please refer to Section 6.6.1 to format the HDD.
Power
Connect +5VDC power source to the DVR host if it’s detached from the outer chamber and used for playback/archive. Or connect +12~24VDC power source to the outer chamber if it’s used in a vehicle (please refer to the diagrams below).

3.2 Optional Connections
Audio inputs
Connect the Audio In/Out & Y/C Out Connector to a Audio In/Out & Y/C Out Cable, and then connect the audio input connectors of the cable to the audio
line-outs from system cameras or other audio sources. Please make sure to associate the audio inputs with the cameras in Camera Setup as described in
Section 6.2 accordingly.
Audio outputs
Connect the Audio In/Out & Y/C Out Connector to a Audio In/Out & Y/C Out Cable, and then connect the audio output connectors of the cable to the audio
line-ins from speakers.
Alarm inputs
Connect the alarm inputs to NC and/or NO type of alarm signals. Please make sure to setup the alarm configurations as described in Section 6.3 accordingly.
Alarm outputs

Connect the alarm output #1 to NC type of alarm signal, alarm output #2 to NO type of alarm signals.
Ethernet
Connect the Ethernet connector to a standard twisted-pair Ethernet cable for remote access via LAN or internet. Wireless router is needed for wireless communications. Please make sure to setup the related configurations as described in Section 6.10 Network Setup.
SD card
If the user wants to use SD card to retrieve important recorded images and/or audio, please connect it to the SD slot.
USB 2.0 disk drives, DVD+RW, card reader, etc.
If the user wants to use USB2.0 peripheral device to retrieve important recorded images and/or audio, please connect it to the USB port connector.
I/R remote controller
The user may use I/R remote controller to control the digital video/audio recorder.
PTZ Cameras
Connect the RS-232 connector or the RS-485 connector to PTZ camera(s) via the appropriate cable. The system supports a variety of different PTZ cameras, including Pelco D protocol Dome, SamSung SCC-641P, Kalatel Cyber Dome, Bosch AutoDome, etc. But different PTZ cameras can coexist in a system only if they support the same protocol. Please make sure to set the PTZ ID of the camera (s), and setup the camera (Section 6.1), and RS-232 or RS-422/485 (Section 6.9) accordingly.

GPS modem
Connect the RS-232 connector to GPS modem via the appropriate cable. The system supports the GPS modems with NMEA0183 protocol. Please make sure to setup the RS-232 port (Section 6.9) accordingly.
Car Speed Pulse Signal
Connect the Car Speed Pulse connector to the car speed pulse signal of the vehicle. Please make sure to setup the Car Speed (Section 6.11.1) and Speed Alarm (Section 6.11.3) accordingly.
Delay ON Connection
Connect the Delay ON connector to the other devices that need to start operating after the DVR has started operating. The maximum total current for the delay on devices is 30 amperes. The connection diagram is as shown below.
