These instructions show you how to install the Microbar radio device onto the 5055 Data Collection PC. A rightĆangle adapter bracket helps make this an easy installation for you to perform. The adapter bracket can be mounted on either side of the computer.
NOTE: Before you begin this installation, you MUST:
Perform a standard Windows shutdown Press the On/Off switch to the OFF position Physically disconnect external power to the computer
At your option, you may temporarily remove the computer from its permanent mounting location. Then, follow these instructions to install and connect the Microbar radio device to your computer.
Step 1
Discard the two selfĆtapping sheet metal screws packed in the bag with the clip.
Use the two smaller machine screws (provided in this kit) to attach the Microbar mounting clip to the adapter bracket.
Step 2
Remove two screws (if present) from either upper corner of the computer. Discard these screws.

Attach the Microbar Unit
Follow the instructions below to attach the Microbar unit to the 5055 computer.
Latch Tang
Step 3
Align the back side of the MicroĆ bar unit to the mounting clip.

Slide the unit upward until the latch tang snaps into the latch recess on the back of the unit.

Identify the cable type that came with your Microbar order.

The Serial Cable plugs into the round connector on the Microbar unit, and attaches to either Serial Connector (COM1 or COM2) on the computer.
The PS/2 Cable plugs into the dĆsubminiature connector on the bottom of the Microbar unit, and attaches to the PS/2 Keyboard Connector on the computer.
The PS/2 YĆCable allows you to connect both a PS/2 keyboard and the Microbar unit to the computer via a single cable.

Connect the Microbar Unit
Follow the instructions below to connect the Microbar unit to the 5055 Computer.

Step 5
Align the cable connector to the corresponding connection on the bottom of the Microbar unit.
Use the thumbscrews to tighten the dĆsub connector to ensure it is firmly engaged.
OR
The slideĆin connector for the SeriĆ al Cable must be pushed firmly into the unit to engage the springĆloaded latching mechanism.

You can connect the Serial Cable to either of the COM ports. ReĆ member to designate whichever port you select using the System Configuration Utility (SCU).
OR
Connect the PS/2 cable from the Microbar unit to the PS/2 KeyĆ board Connector on the computer.
Do NOT connect it to the PS/2 mouse connector.

Enabling the Scanner
You have successfully installed and connected the Microbar radio device to the 5055 Data Collection PC. You must power up the computer and make several settings before the wireless scanner and Microbar radio device can actually talk" to the computer.
Step 7 Computer Setup
(a) Reconnect the external power cable to the computer. (b) Press the On/Off Switch to the Power ON position. (c) If your operating system detects new hardware, follow the onĆscreen instructions to install it. (d) If your operating system does not detect new hardware, you must manually enable scanning. (e) Use the System Configuration Utility to designate the correct COM port (Serial Cable only).
Step 8 Scanner/Microbar Setup
You must follow these procedures in the order shown below to successfully enable scanning:
(a) Make sure the wireless scanner battery is fully charged. (b) Scan the barcode on the Microbar device. (c) Scan the correct barcode to designate which cable is in use (Serial or PS/2).* (d) Configure the communications protocol (Serial connection only)**
*Barcodes can be found in the scanner user's guide. ** A PS/2 connection should not require communication configuration.
Disconnecting Microbar Cables

Simply loosen the thumbĆ screws. Pull the connector free of the Microbar device.
