USB Bluetooth Adapter Instructions

The USB Bluetooth™ Adapter (Model BU-2073-J) (P/N 203­771-xxx) lets you connect an SF51 or SR61 Cordless Scanner to
your host PC. Your shipping contents include these items:

• USB Bluetooth adapter

• Sheet of three Bluetooth association bar codes

• These instructions

If you need a software wedge tool, Intermec recommends
Intermec SmartWedge™. SmartWedge allows you to scan data
directly to your host PC application. To order SmartWedge,
contact your local Intermec sales representative.

Before you get started, you need to:

®

•install EasySet

version 5.4.1 or later. EasySet is available on
the CD that ships with the scanner or from the Intermec web
site at www.intermec.com.

• note the Bluetooth address of your scanner.

To use the Bluetooth adapter

1 Install the Bluetooth adapter on your host PC.
2 (Microsoft Windows XP with SP1 and Microsoft Windows

2000 only) Set up your Bluetooth COM port.

3 Pair your scanner with your host PC, and create a Bluetooth

connection between your scanner and host PC.

4 Collect data with your scanner.

These instructions describe how to perform each step depending
on whether your host PC is running Microsoft Windows XP
with SP2, Microsoft Windows XP with SP1, or Microsoft
Windows 2000.

Microsoft Windows XP with SP2

Follow these procedures to use your SF51 or SR61 with your host
PC running Microsoft Windows XP with SP2.

Installing the Bluetooth Adapter

• Insert the adapter into a USB port on your PC. Windows XP
automatically detects and installs the adapter.

Pairing Your Scanner and Host PC

If you are planning on using the scanner with your host PC on a
regular basis, you should pair the two devices. Pairing saves
connection information between the scanner and your host PC.

To pair your scanner with your host PC

1 Press the Scan button or pull the trigger on your scanner. The

scanner enters a discoverable state.

2 On your PC desktop, double-click the Bluetooth icon on the

taskbar. The Bluetooth Devices window appears.

3 Click Add. The Add Bluetooth Device wizard appears.
4 Follow the onscreen instructions.

When you get to the passkey step, select Use the passkey
found in the documentation, and enter the default

Bluetooth PIN, which is 0000.

5 Click Next. The Bluetooth Device wizard verifies the passkey,

and then the final screen of the wizard appears.

6 Note the COM ports that are being used for incoming and

outgoing communication and click Finish.

Connecting Your Scanner to Your Host PC

There are two ways to create a Bluetooth connection:

• Connect from your scanner. Using this method, you can only
connect one scanner to your host PC. When you place the
SF51 in a 1-bay charger or remove and install the battery in
an SR61, the scanner resets and the Bluetooth connection is
lost. After the scanner resets, it automatically reconnects to
your host PC.

• Connect from your host PC. Using this method, you can
connect more than one scanner to your host PC.

Connecting From Your Scanner

You can connect from your scanner to your data collection
application or EasySet on your host PC. This section describes
how to connect to EasySet.

To connect from your scanner to EasySet on your host PC

1 To turn on your scanner, press the Scan button or pull the

trigger.

2 Scan the Bluetooth association bar code that ships with the

adapter.
The scanner beeps once, the green status light flashes once,

and the blue Intermec Ready-to-Work™ indicator starts
blinking.

3 Start EasySet version 5.4.1 or later. Make sure that SF51 or

SR61 is selected as your product.

4 To verify your connection with EasySet, select

Communication > Connect. The Online Setup dialog box
appears.

5 Select the incoming COM port that you previously noted and

click OK.
When the scanner connects to your host PC, it emits a series

of beeps from low to high, and the blue Intermec Ready-to­Work indicator turns on and stays on.

6 To disconnect from EasySet, select Communication >

Disconnect.

The scanner disconnects from EasySet, emits a series of beeps
from high to low, and the blue Intermec Ready-to-Work
indicator starts blinking.

You are now ready to connect to your application. The method
for connecting depends on your data collection application.

To disconnect from your host PC

beeps from high to low, and the blue Intermec Ready-to-Work
indicator turns off.

Connecting From Your PC

You can connect from your PC through your data collection
application or EasySet. This section describes how to connect
using EasySet.

To connect from your PC using EasySet

1 To turn on your scanner, press the Scan button or pull the

trigger. The scanner enters a discoverable state.

2 Start EasySet version 5.4.1 or later. Make sure that SF51 or

SR61 is selected as your product.

3 Select Communication > Connect. The Online Setup dialog

box appears.

4 Select the outgoing COM port that you previously noted and

click OK.
When the scanner connects to your host PC, it emits a series

of beeps from low to high, and the blue Intermec Ready-to­Work indicator turns on and stays on.

5 To disconnect from EasySet, select Communication >

Disconnect.

Collecting Data With Your Scanner

1 If necessary, configure your data collection application to

receive data from the incoming (connecting from your
scanner) or outgoing (connecting from host PC) COM port
that you previously noted.

2 Connect to your PC from your scanner and start your data

collection application.
Or, connect to your scanner from your host PC using your

data collection application.

3 Scan a bar code with your scanner. The data is entered into

your application.

Microsoft Windows XP with SP1 and Microsoft
Windows 2000

Follow these procedures to use your SF51 or SR61 with your host
PC running Microsoft Windows XP with SP1 or Microsoft
Windows 2000.

Installing the Bluetooth Adapter

Note: Do not insert the adapter until you are
prompted to by the software.

1 Go to the Intermec web site at www.intermec.com.
2 From the Service & Support menu, select Downloads.
3 From the Select A Product drop-down list, choose the SF51

or SR61 scanner.

4 Click the link to download the Windows Driver for USB

Bluetooth Adapter (P/N 203-771-xxx), and save the software
to your PC.

5 Install the Windows Driver software on your PC, and follow

the onscreen instructions.
When prompted, insert the Bluetooth adapter into a USB

port on your PC and click OK. When the installation is
complete, a message box appears telling you to restart your
system.

6 Click Yes to reboot your PC. The Windows drivers and

Bluetooth Settings application are installed.

Setting Up Your Bluetooth COM Port

1 On your PC desktop, from the Start menu, select Settings >

Control Panel.

2 Double-click Bluetooth Local COM.
3 In the Existing COM Ports list, find the COM port whose

owner is LocalCOM-Server.

4 Select the COM port, and click Delete. A message box

appears.

5 Click Yes to confirm that you want to delete the COM port.
6 Click Add. The Bluetooth Local COM Setup Wizard

appears.

7 On the first screen of the wizard, select Create a Bluetooth

virtual COM port for a server.

8 Follow the onscreen instructions to create the COM port.
9 Note the COM ports for the LocalCOM-Server and the

LocalCOM-Client.

10 To close the Bluetooth Local COM window, click OK.
11 Close the Control Panel.

Connecting and Pairing Your Scanner and Host PC

Pairing saves connection information between the scanner and
your host PC. Your scanner and host PC are automatically paired
the first time you create a Bluetooth connection.

There are two ways to create a Bluetooth connection:

• Connect from your scanner. Using this method, you can only

Step 9 of the previous procedure.

3 To turn on your scanner, press the Scan button or pull the

trigger.

4 Scan the Bluetooth association bar code that ships with the

adapter.
The first time you connect, the scanner beeps once and the

green status light flashes once.
When the Bluetooth Manager window appears, in the BT

Security field, enter 0000 and click OK.
The scanner connects to your host PC, emits a series of beeps

from low to high, and the blue Intermec Ready-to-Work
indicator turns on and stays on.

To determine the Bluetooth COM port

1 Double-click the Bluetooth icon on the taskbar. The

Bluetooth Settings window appears.

2 Select your SF51 or SR61, and click the Detail button.
3 Note the COM port listed in the Port Name field.

Connecting From Your PC

1 Press the Scan button or pull the trigger on your scanner. The

scanner enters a discoverable state.

2 On your PC desktop, right-click the Bluetooth icon on the

taskbar and select Add New Connection. The Add New
Connection Wizard appears.

3 Select Custom Mode, and click Next. The wizard searches for

Bluetooth devices.

4 In the Bluetooth Device list, select your scanner, and click

Next. The wizard tries to connect to your scanner, and the
Bluetooth Manager - Bluetooth Security box appears.

5 In the Bluetooth Passkey (PIN) field, enter the default

Bluetooth PIN, which is 0000 and click OK.

6 In the Service Selection list, make sure that Serial Port is

selected, and click Next.

7 In the Assignment of COM Port Name box, deselect the Use

default COM port check box. A message box appears

recommending using the default setting.

8 Click OK.

9 From the COM port drop-down list box, select the

LocalCOM-Client COM port that you noted in Step 9 on
page 9.

10 Click Next, and click Next again. The Enter a name and

select an icon window appears.

11 (Optional) Change the information in the Setting

information box, and click Next.

12 Click Finish. Your scanner appears in the Bluetooth Settings

application.

13 Right-click your scanner, and select Connect.

Your PC connects to your scanner, your scanner emits a series
of beeps from low to high, and the blue Intermec Ready-to­Work indicator turns on and stays on.

To disconnect

• From the Bluetooth Settings application, right-click your
scanner, and select Disconnect.

The scanner disconnects from your host PC, emits a series of
beeps from high to low, and the blue Intermec Ready-to­Work indicator turns off.

Collecting Data With Your Scanner

1 Start your data collection application.
2 If necessary, configure your data collection application to

receive data from the Bluetooth COM port.

3 Scan a bar code with your scanner. The data is entered into

your application.

emparelhamento dos dois dispositivos. O emparelhamento salva

Para emparelhar o leitor com o PC host

1 Pressione o botão Scan ou pressione o gatilho do leitor. O

leitor entrará em um estado detectável.

2 No PC, clique duas vezes no ícone do Bluetooth na barra de

tarefas. A janela Bluetooth Devices (Dispositivos Bluetooth)
aparecerá.

3 Clique em Add (Adicionar). O Assistente para Adicionar

4 Siga as instruções exibidas na tela. Ao chegar na etapa

de especificação da senha, selecione Use the passkey
found in the documentation (Usar a senha fornecida na
documentação) e digite o número de identificação pessoal

5 Clique em Next (Avançar). O Assistente para Adicionar

Dispositivo Bluetooth verificará a senha e, em seguida, a tela

recolocada em um SR61, o leitor é reinicializado e a conexão

Bluetooth é perdida. O leitor restabelecerá automaticamente a
conexão ao PC host depois da reinicialização.

• A partir do PC host. Com este método, é possível conectar
mais de um leitor ao PC host.

Conexão a partir do leitor

É possível fazer a conexão ao aplicativo de coleta de dados ou ao
EasySet no PC host a partir do leitor. Esta seção descreve como
estabelecer a conexão usando o EasySet.

Para estabelecer a conexão a partir do leitor para o EasySet no PC host

1 Para ligar o leitor, pressione o botão Scan ou pressione o

gatilho.

2 Leia o código de barras de associação Bluetooth que

acompanha o adaptador.
O leitor emitirá um bipe, a luz verde indicadora de status

piscará uma vez e o indicador azul Ready-to-Work™ da
Intermec começará a piscar.

3 Inicie o EasySet versão 5.4.1 ou posterior. O SF51 ou o SR61

aplicativo de coleta de dados.
Ou estabeleça a conexão ao leitor a partir do PC host usando

o aplicativo de coleta de dados.

3 Leia um código de barras com o leitor. Os dados serão

inseridos no aplicativo.

Microsoft Windows XP com SP1 e Microsoft Windows
2000

Siga estes procedimentos para usar o SF51 ou o SR61 se o sistema
operacional do PC host for o Microsoft Windows XP com SP1
ou o Microsoft Windows 2000.

Instalação do adaptador Bluetooth

Nota: Não insira o adaptador antes de ser solicitado
pelo software.

1 Visite o web site da Intermec em www.intermec.com.
2 No menu Service & Support, selecione Downloads.
3 Na lista Select A Product, escolha o leitor SF51 ou SR61.
4 Clique no link para baixar o driver para Windows do

adaptador USB Bluetooth (N/P 203-771-xxx) e salve o
software no computador.

5 Instale o software do driver para Windows no computador e

siga as instruções exibidas na tela.
Quando solicitado, insira o adaptador Bluetooth em uma

porta USB do computador e clique em OK. Quando a
instalação estiver concluída, uma mensagem será exibida
solicitando que reinicie o sistema.

6 Clique em Yes (Sim) para reinicializar o computador. Os

drivers Windows e aplicativo Bluetooth Settings estão
instalados.

Configuração da porta de comunicação (COM) Bluetooth

1 No computador, selecione Start (Iniciar), Settings > Control

Panel (Configurações > Painel de controle).

2 Clique duas vezes em Bluetooth Local COM.

3 Na lista Existing COM Ports list (Portas COM existentes),

localize a porta COM cujo proprietário é LocalCOM-Server.

4 Selecione a porta COM e clique em Delete (Excluir). Uma

caixa de mensagem será exibida.

5 Clique em Yes (Sim) para confirmar que deseja excluir a porta

COM.

6 Clique em Add (Adicionar). O Assistente de Configuração de

Porta COM Bluetooth Local aparecerá.

7 Na primeira tela do Assistente, selecione Create a Bluetooth

virtual COM port for a server (Criar uma porta COM

Bluetooth virtual para um servidor).

8 Siga as instruções exibidas na tela para criar a porta COM.
9 Anote as portas COM para LocalCOM-Server e

LocalCOM-Client.

10 Para fechar a janela Bluetooth Local COM, clique em OK.
11 Feche o painel de controle.

Conexão e emparelhamento do leitor e do PC host

O emparelhamento salva informações sobre a conexão entre o
leitor e o PC host. O leitor e o PC host são emparelhados
automaticamente na primeira vez que é criada uma conexão
Bluetooth.

Existem duas maneiras de criar uma conexão Bluetooth:

• A partir do leitor. Com este método, só é possível conectar um
leitor ao PC host. Quando o SF51 é colocado em um

carregador de 1 compartimento ou a bateria é removida e
recolocada em um SR61, o leitor é reinicializado e a conexão
Bluetooth é perdida. O leitor restabelecerá automaticamente a
conexão ao PC host depois da reinicialização.

• A partir do PC host. Com este método, é possível conectar
mais de um leitor ao PC host.

Conexão a partir do leitor

1 Inicie o aplicativo de coleta de dados.
2 Selecione a porta COM LocalCOM-Server que anotou na

etapa 9 do procedimento anterior.

3 Para ligar o leitor, pressione o botão Scan ou pressione o

gatilho.

4 Leia o código de barras de associação Bluetooth que

acompanha o adaptador.
Na primeira vez que for estabelecida a conexão, o leitor

emitirá um bipe e a luz verde indicadora de status piscará uma
vez.

Quando a janela do Bluetooth Manager (Gerenciador
Bluetooth) aparecer, digite 0000 no campo BT Security
(Segurança Bluetooth) e clique em OK.

O leitor se conectará ao PC host, emitirá uma série de bipes,
de baixo a alto, e o indicador azul Ready-to-Work da Intermec
se acenderá e permanecerá aceso.

Para desconectar

• Leia este código de barras:

Para determinar a porta COM Bluetooth

1 Clique duas vezes no ícone do Bluetooth na barra de tarefas. A

janela do Bluetooth Settings aparecerá.

2 Selecione o SF51 ou o SR61 e clique no botão Detail

(Detalhe).

3 Anote a porta COM descrita no campo Port Name (Nome da

porta).

Conexão a partir do PC

1 Pressione o botão Scan ou pressione o gatilho do leitor. O

leitor entrará em um estado detectável.

2 No PC, clique com o botão direito do mouse no ícone do

Bluetooth na barra de tarefas e selecione Add New
Connection (Adicionar nova conexão). O Assistente para
Adicionar Nova Conexão aparecerá.

3 Selecione Custom Mode (Modo personalizado) e clique em

Next (Avançar). O Assistente procurará por dispositivos

Bluetooth.

4 Na lista Bluetooth Device (Dispositivo Bluetooth), selecione

o leitor usado e clique em Next (Avançar). O Assistente
tentará estabelecer a conexão com o leitor e a caixa

Bluetooth

Manager - Bluetooth Security (Gerenciador Bluetooth –

Segurança Bluetooth) aparecerá.

5 No campo Bluetooth Passkey (PIN) (Senha Bluetooth

(NIP)), digite a senha padrão do Bluetooth, que é 0000, e
clique em OK.

6 Na lista Service Selection (Seleção de serviço), certifique-se de

que Serial Port (Porta serial) esteja selecionada e clique em
Next (Avançar).

7 Na caixa Assignment of COM Port Name (Atribuição de

nome de porta COM), desmarque a caixa de seleção Use
default COM port (Usar porta COM padrão). Uma caixa de
mensagem aparecerá recomendando que a configuração
padrão seja usada.

8 Clique em OK.

9 Na caixa da lista suspensa da porta COM, selecione a

porta COM LocalCOM-Client que anotou na etapa 9, na
página 19.

10 Clique em Next (Avançar) e clique em Next (Avançar)

novamente. A janela Enter a name and select an icon
(Especifique um nome e selecione um ícone) aparecerá.

11 (Opcional) Altere as informações exibidas na caixa Setting

information (Informações de configuração) e clique em Next

(Avançar).

12 Clique em Finish (Concluir). O leitor aparecerá no aplicativo

Bluetooth Settings.

13 Clique com o botão direito do mouse no leitor e selecione

Connect (Conectar).
O PC se conectará ao leitor, o leitor emitirá uma série de

bipes, de baixo a alto, e o indicador azul Ready-to-Work da
Intermec se acenderá e permanecerá aceso.

Para desconectar

• A partir aplicativo Bluetooth Settings, clique com o botão
direito do mouse no leitor e selecione Disconnect
(Desconectar).

O leitor se desconectará do PC host, emitirá uma série de
bipes, de alto a baixo, e o indicador azul Ready-to-Work da
Intermec apagará.

Coleta de dados com o leitor

1 Inicie o aplicativo de coleta de dados.
2 Se necessário, configure o aplicativo de coleta de dados para

receber dados da porta COM Bluetooth.

3 Leia um código de barras com o leitor. Os dados serão

inseridos no aplicativo.
