2.1 RS-232C commu ni ca tio n
2.1.1 RS-232C connector specification
Connect an RS-232C cable to the provided 3-pin terminal block and then insert the 3-pin terminal block into to
the appropriat e por t on t he MSD’s rear panel.
AWG28 to AWG16 conductor gauge is recommended. The recomm ended wir e stri p length is 0.28 in. (7 mm).
If it is connected to a D-sub9 pin, cut RTS, CTS, DTR, and DSR (unused) as needed.

2.1.3 Setting up RS-232C communication
(1) Connect the MSD and the contr ol dev ic e v ia an RS-232C cabl e.
(2) Set the RS-232C communic ation as follows:
・RS-232C communication: Baud r ate, data bit length, parity check, and stop bit
・Operation mode of RS-232C communication: “RECEIVER”
【Reference: User’s Guide】
(3) For the control dev ic e, set t he same values in the same way as RS-232C communicati on (baud rat e, data
bit length, parit y c hec k, and stop bit) in step (2) above.
(4) Send a communication command from the control device to the MSD in order to check the control status of
the MSD.

2.2.4 The number of TCP-IP connections
The MSD series can connect up to eight connections (eight ports) simultaneously. If the MSD is contr olled
from nine or more PCs, they may not be connected to the MSD normally, since the number of connec tions
that can be used is limited.
If you use nine connections or more, execute TCP-IP connecti on/close every time the communic ation
command is sent or received from the software of user’s side. By doing so, MSD’s ports are occupied or
released so that nine or m or e connect ions can be connected logically.
[Table 2.3] Increasing connections
MSD

→
←Send back command
TCP-IP close →(Release 1 port)
Note: If any command is not sent from the PC side to the MSD for 30 seconds, the MSD di sconnec t s the
connection t o av oid the limitation problem on the num ber of connec tions. As a result, connection needs to be
established again f r om the PC si de aft er the cur r ent connection of the PC is disconnected.
(Since the number of port s i n the MDS is eight , ports are occupied permanently if the PC is turned off while
connections are valid. To prevent this, the MSD disconnects connec t ions if no communicati on c ommand is
sent from the PC side.)

3 Command
3.1 Comma nd o utl i n e
A command consists of “@” (“40” in hexadecimal), 3 one-byte alphabetical character s (upper and lower
cases), and parameters (one-byte numbers
no parameter is required. Processing is execut ed by sendi ng a delim iter at the end of the command.
Example: @SPM,2
“,”( a comma, “2C” in hexadecim al) is indicated between a command and param eter and between two
parameters.
■ If there is an error:
An error command is returned if an undefined command or wrong parameter is included.
Example: @SOT,1
@ERR,1
