ICOM AL-705 Technical Article

ICO-AL-705 Upper Loop
5 Jan 2021 UPDATE 28 Oct 2022
One of the PL-259 connectors on that small inner loop had the center pin cut off. After a quick exchange of a few emails with Alpha Antennas (they make the AL-705 for ICOM) it was found out that is normal. Below you’ll find a simple sketch showing that inner loop and what would be found if you measured continuity. This has been verified on our in-stock AL-705 as well and this is normal.
-----------------------------------------------------PL-259 #1 (with normal center pin) PL-259 #2 (cut center pin)
Measuring conductivity: #1 center pin to #2 center pin = Open #1 shield to #2 shield = Open #1 center pin to #2 shield = Short #1 center pin to #1 shield = Open
------------------------------------------------------
This was verified as correct by Alpha Antennas - they make the AL-705 for ICOM. Note that the center pin on one end of that short loop is supposed to have a cut pin. UPDATE - 28 Oct 2022: It is ok to have two pins
now. A slight change allowed both pins to remain installed in more recent versions of the AL705 MagLoop. One pin will show no continuity to anything. The other pin will show continuity to the opposite barrel.
