Quidway® NetEngine 5000E Core Router
GE Optical Interface Boards
Overview
The Quidway® NetEngine 5000E core router (hereinafter referred to as "NE5000E") provides
high-density GE optical interface boards that are hot-pluggable and can be installed in any service
slot of the NE5000E. The GE optical interface board is the most fundamental interface board of the
NE5000E and widely used by carriers and in enterprise networks.

The GE optical interface board implements Gigabit Ethernet MAC layer functions and Physical
Medium Dependent (PMD) sub-layer functions in compliance with the IEEE specifications. It also
provides such functions as loopback, environment monitoring and information query.
The GE optical interface board of the NE5000E is used to interconnect Ethernets at speeds up to
1000 Mbps. Different SFP optical modules can be chosen for different transmission distances.

Currently, the NE5000E provides two types of GE optical interface boards. The specifications are
