2. The PDA Phone

Front panel
Left LED: Shows Green and Amber lights for
CDMA standby, message, and network status as well as for notification and battery charging status.
Right LED:
Shows a flashing Blue light when the
Bluetooth system is powered up and ready to transmit Bluetooth radio signal, or an Amber light for GPS status.

Listen to a phone call from here.
Touch Screen
TALK
Press to answer an incoming call or dial a number.
NAVIGATION Control/ENTER
Press this multi-directional control up, down, left, or right to move through menus and program instructions; carry out the selection by pressing the center button.

Back and bottom panels
Sync Connector/Earphone Jack
Connect the supplied USB cable to synchronize information or plug in the AC adapter to recharge the battery. You can also connect the supplied USB stereo headset for hands-free conversation or for listening to audio media.

Top, left, and right panels
POWER
Press to turn off the display temporarily. To turn off the power, press and hold for about 5 seconds.
Volume Slider
• Slide up or down to adjust the speaker volume.
• During a call, slide up or down to adjust the earpiece volume.

Storage Card Slot Cover
Remove the back cover and then pry open the slot cover to install the microSD card (not included) for storing data.

3. Getting Ready

Install and charge the battery
New batteries are shipped partially charged. Before you start using your device, it is recommended that you install and charge the battery.
To install the battery
1. Slide the back cover upward to remove it.
2. Insert the battery by inserting it with its exposed
copper part aligned with the protruding copper conductor on the upper right side of the battery compartment. Insert the right side of the battery first, then gently push the battery into place.
3. Replace the back cover.
To remove the battery
1. Make sure your device is turned off.
2. Remove the back cover.
3. To remove the battery, lift it up from the lower-left end of the battery.

To charge the battery
Some batteries perform best after several full charge/discharge cycles. You can charge the battery in one of the following ways:
Connect your device directly to an electrical outlet using the AC adapter.
Plug the sync cable to the USB port on your PC and to the sync connector on your device.
Charging is indicated by a solid amber light on the LED indicator. When power is on, a charging icon ( ) also appears on the Today screen.
After the battery has been fully charged, the LED indicator becomes green and a full battery icon ( ) appears on the Today screen.
Turn on your device
Press and hold the POWER button for a few seconds. When you turn on your device for the first time, a Quick Start Wizard will guide you through the calibration process and setup of device password. When the customization is completed and the device reboots, the wizard will also guide you through the setup of e-mail.
To turn off your device, press and hold the POWER button for a few seconds. A message will then be displayed, prompting you whether or not to turn off the device completely.

Check the battery power
Tap the battery level icon ( ) on the Today screen. The Power Settings screen will then open where you can see the current battery power level.
When the battery power gets very low, a warning message will be displayed. When you see this, immediately save your data by synchronizing with your PC, or save your data on a secondary storage card, and then turn off your device. Do not attempt to restart your device until you have connected it with the power adapter.
Install the storage card (not included)
If you need more storage for your device, you can use a

card to save media and other files.

1. Make sure your device is turned off and remove the
back cover.
2. Pry open the cover that houses the storage card slot,
and then flip your device so that the touch screen faces upward.
3. Hold open the slot cover with one hand, and insert the
storage card with its gold contacts facing down and its cut-off corner facing toward the inside of the slot.
4. Close the slot cover and replace the back cover.

When to use the Splitter Adapter and Y-Splitter Cable
To use the Splitter Adapter
Use the supplied Splitter Adapter when you want to charge the battery on your device, and at the same time, use the supplied mini-USB stereo headset for hands-free conversation or for listening to music.
1. Connect the Splitter Adapter to
your device’s Sync connector.
3. Connect the supplied
USB stereo headset to the splitter adapter’s audio connector.
2. Connect the AC
adapter to the splitter adapter’s power connector.

To use the Y-Splitter Cable
Use the supplied Y-Splitter Cable when you want to charge the battery on your device, and at the same time, use a standard 2.5mm stereo headset (sold separately) for hands-free conversation or for listening to music.

4. HTC Home

HTC Home is a Today screen plug-in that gives you up-to-date local information at a glance, such as time, day and weather information, and shows new messages and missed calls. It also has a customizable launcher where you can add your favorite applications for one-touch access.

TouchFLO™
TouchFLO™ gives you better touch panel experience on your device. Using TouchFLO, you can easily scroll and pan the screen by sliding your finger on the touch panel. TouchFLO also has the Touch Cube where you can add your favorite contacts, access media, launch programs, and more.
For details on using TouchFLO™, refer to your device’s user manual.

5. Making a Call

Like a standard mobile phone, you can use your device to make, receive, and keep track of phone calls and send text messages (SMS).

From the Phone screen, you can access Call History, Speed Dial, and Phone settings.
