ESD Precautions
The optical disk jukebox contains very sensitive electrical components. It is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT that you follow the proper procedures for preventing ESD (Electrostatic Discharge). Use wristgrounding straps, anti-static mats, and anti-static work stations when removing and replacing the major assemblies.
Caution
Failure to follow proper procedures could lead to intermittent failures and/or premature hard failures in the disk controller and mechanism.
Tools Required
Torx driver with the following bits: T-10, T-20

Note
The “x” in the part numbers listed in the following parts tables represents a number from “0” to “9” depending on the revision of the part. For example, if the part is newly released, the number will be “0”. The first time the part is revised, the number increments to “1”; the second time the part is revised, the number increments to“2”, and so on.
If you are unsure of the current part number, enter a “0” or a “1” in place of the “x” when checking your parts database and the current part number will be displayed.

When doing this upgrade, be sure that disk cartridges are not moved from their original slot locations.
the cartridges, record their SLOT LOCATIONS and ORIENTATION so they can be replaced to their ORIGINAL positions. Failure to follow this practice results in a serious loss of file system integrity.
1. Look in the jukebox front "window" and make sure that there are no disks in any drive.

2. Bring the jukebox “down.”
Procedures for bringing this jukebox offline depend on the specific host system. Coordinate with the system administrator to prepare this jukebox for the upgrade. This may involve “downing” the host system also.
3. Remove power from the jukebox.
4. Disconnect the SCSI interface from the host.

Note
The magazines come in sets of 8-slot magazines (4 sets) and 6-slot magazines (2 sets). Each magazine (set of cartridge slots) comes as two identical sides.
To upgrade to a C1160F/G/H with 4 drives and 64 slots, a drive upgrade (C1154F/G/H) AND this capacity upgrade must be installed. NOTE that only the 8-slot magazines (32 slots) should be installed during the capacity upgrade in this situation (in the positions indicated in Figure 3).
To upgrade to a C1170F/G/H with 76 slots, install all the magazines included in the upgrade kit in the positions indicated in Figure 3. Note that the 6-slot magazines are installed in the area where the drives would be installed in a 2 drive upgrade.
1. Install the appropriate number of cartridge slots (32 or 44).
Refer to Figure 3 for an overview of where these slots will be added.

Figure 4: Location of tabs and spring latch on a magazine guide
9
The magazine guide pictured on the previous page is shown as it is oriented when placing it into the inside right of each stack (as you face the "picker side" of the stacks).
Place the leading tabs (top right in the picture) into the slots farthest in, then rotate the magazine guide into the stack, catching the trailing tabs (lower left arrows in picture). Push the guide against the stack and forward until you (hear/feel) the latch click into the wall of the stack (the latch is the "angle"shown in the lower left of the picture).
If this latch does not catch (click into place), the guide is not correctly mounted and could come out during use.
2. Remove the controller PCA.
Caution
Raise the picker transport assembly by pulling on the transport rope coupler assembly. Pulling up on the transport assembly frame may cause misalignment.
a. Raise the picker assembly.
Insert a slim screwdriver into the gear box of the verttical motion motor to hold up the transport mechanism while changing the controller PCA.

3. Mount the new controller PCA.
a. Reconnect all cables to the controller PCA: SCSI cable, power cable, motor encoder and power
cables, picker cable.

b. Use the 7 T-20 screws from the old controller PCA to mount the new controller PCA.
c. Remount the cover with 6 T-20 screws.
4. If you inserted a screwdriver (or similar instrument) in the vertical motor gear box, remove it and allow the transport assembly to lower to the bottom of the chassis.
5. Download current code to the controller PCA and drives.
You will use an external SCSI connector on the interface module mounted on the left side of the jukebox chassis.
6. Run the Wellness Test to verify installation.
7. Remove power from the jukebox.
8. Label the jukebox.
a. Place the appropriate product upgrade label that came with this upgrade kit partially over the
serial number label on the jukebox. Do not cover the serial number. Refer to Figure 8.
The C1160 label is used when upgrading to the 4 drive / 64 slot jukebox. The C1170 label is used when upgrading to the 2 drive / 76 slot jukebox.
Make sure the product number suffix (F, G, or H) matches the old product number suffix.
Note:
The label does NOT cover the original serial number.
