Hewlett Packard Scanjet 3500c Series Glass Cleaning
Manual
(This Includes The 3500c, 3530c,3570c Scanners)
First Step; Unplug scanner from power supply and Computer.
Wait for at least 15 minutes (after disconnecting power) before disassembling scanner and cleaning the glass. This gives time for the scanner to cool.
Tools Needed;
Phillips Screw driver
Supplies Needed;
Glass Cleaner
Lint Free Cloth
Surroundings or Environment;
Disassemble scanner in a relatively clean dust free space.
Special Considerations;
Read through the entire process once before starting to clean the product, and
then decide if you want to do this or send it in to the Hewlett Packard service center for cleaning.
Do not touch any other parts inside of the scanner. Some parts of the scanner are very sensitive, especially to electrostatic discharge.
Disassembly
Step #1 Remove the Document Lid
Remove the document lid as shown. Open the lid and lift straight up. Set the lid aside for re-assembly later on.
Step #2 Cleaning Topside of Scanner
Clean the topside of the scanner prior to disassembly to prevent contamination of internal parts. Use cleaner sparingly. Do not allow cleaner fluid to run. Clean the plastic first and then use a separate lint free cloth to clean glass.
NOTE: You are about to open the interior of your scanner to the dust of the outside environment. Your scanner is very sensitive to any dust particles that get into the carriage head, which can cause streaks in the scanned image. Minimize the time that the top cover is off by having all the cleaning materials ready. Also be sure to disassemble your scanner in a clean environment.
Step #3 Remove the Fastening Screws
Remove the three Phillips head screws on the bottom. The locations shown in red
Step #4 Remove the Top Cover
Lift the front of the top cover first (front is referred to the end where the buttons are), then lift the cover straight up to remove as shown. Remove the top cover and set aside for Cleaning and re-assembly later on.
NOTE: Dust will immediately begin accumulating in your scanner now that the top cover is off. Static discharge from your fingers, hand, or tools will damage the circuit boards inside your scanner. Do not touch anything inside the scanner base.
Step #5 Cleaning the Glass
Spray the underside of the glass sparingly with glass cleaner. Do not allow the cleaner to pool or run over the edges of the glass as shown marked in red. If cleaner runs over the edge of the glass it could stain the calibration strip (white strip under glass) and render your scanner useless. If you do get cleaner in the calibration strip area, you then must send it in to HP for repair.
Step #6 Re-Mounting the Top Cover
to the Scanner
Hold the top cover with the front end raised as shown . Align hooks on top cover with the base hooks.
Bottom cover hooks circled in red
Top cover hooks shown circled in red
Step #7 Insert the screws
Flip the scanner over and re-insert and tighten the three screws (locations shown in red) with a Phillips head screw driver
.
Step#8 Insert the Document lid
Install document lid with it in the open position. Align the hinges in the slots of the top cover and slide them in. Close document lid
Reconnect your scanners power cable and communications cables (USB Or Parallel)
(Refer to the setup instructions that came with the scanner for cable hook up and scanner operation.)
