Introduction
These Hewlett-Packard VPN Server Appliance SA3400
Acceleration Card Upgrade Notes explain how to install the
Encryption Acceleration Card into your HP VPN Server
Appliance SA3400.

Hardware Requirements
This section lists the hardware requirements for installing
the Encryption Acceleration Card into your VPN device.
You need the following hardware to install the Encryption
Acceleration Card into your VPN device:
• HP VPN Server Appliance SA3400
• Encryption Acceleration Card
• Phillips screwdriver
• Disposable grounding wrist strap

Installing/Replacing the Encryption
Acceleration Card in the VPN Device
This section explains how to install or replace the
Encryption Acceleration card in your VPN device and
covers the following topics:
• Safety precautions
• Removing the cover of the VPN device
• Installing/replacing the Encryption Acceleration Card
• Closing and securing the cover of the VPN device
Safety Precautions
WARNING: Turn the power off, disconnect the power
cable, and disconnect all other cables before you perform
this procedure. Do not reattach any cables until you replace
the cover of the unit chassis and tighten the cover screws
on the chassis.
CAUTION: Attach the disposable grounding wrist strap to
your wrist and an exposed portion of the VPN device
chassis, as indicated in the instructions on the wrist strap
packaging.
Removing the Cover of the VPN Device
To remove the cover of the VPN Device:
1. Loosen and remove the six cover release screws
located on the sides and rear of the unit chassis.
2. Remove the top cover of the VPN device.

Installing/Replacing the Encryption
Acceleration Card
To install or replace the encryption acceleration card:
1. Remove the screw that holds the slot cover in place in
the third slot from the left when you are looking at the
rear of the chassis from the outside of the VPN device.
2. Discard the slot cover.
3. Push the Encryption Acceleration Card into the
connector, and ensure that it is firmly seated.
4. Replace and tighten the screw back into place, so that it
firmly holds the Encryption Acceleration Card.
Closing and Securing the Cover of the VPN
Device
To replace the cover of the VPN device:
Lower the top cover of the VPN device chassis and then
slide the cover forward.
1. To ensure proper alignment, replace and tighten the
two rear screws first.
2. Replace and tighten the remaining four screws on the
sides of the unit chassis.
Reconnect all the cables, including the power cable, to the
unit chassis.
