Overview

The HP StorageWorks Network Storage Router (NSR) N1200 is a key component in a complete data protection solution. It is a 1U rackmount router with one Fibre Channel port and two SCSI ports. It allows customers to connect SCSI based tape libraries to the SAN increasing backup speeds up to 90%. The N1200 is also one of the supported routers when configuring fibre channel with HP's Opitcal Jukeboxes. The N1200 offers enterprise class features at a price point appealing to the low to mid range customers. It is targeted towards customers that want to reduce or remove their backup window. It offers support for 2Gb Fibre Channel and has web-based management allowing for remote management. This is the first router to bring 2Gb Fibre Channel to the mid range.
As storage capacity needs multiply every year businesses struggle to keep up with these demands. Contributing factors to the growth in storage include applications becoming more complex, increasing file sizes, and regulations becoming more numerous regarding the storage of tax, customer, and other business information. In addition to this, companies need to operate 24x7 to not be left behind. To keep up with these demands, they look to service providers to guide them in their decision making when creating a data protection strategy. Key components of this strategy should be reliability, lower total cost of ownership, investment protection, and ease of use. The NSR N1200 offers all of these benefits.

Up to 2 Ultrium, SDLT or DLT tape drives per SCSI port with a single NSR N1200 router. The robot arm counts as a SCSI device but does not need its own SCSI Port connection because of the low bandwidth requirement of the robot arm.
Web Based Management - a web application management tool for configuring and managing storage devices. The graphical user interface allows end users to configure the router by "pointing and clicking" on a graphical representation of the router. The manager can be accessed from any computer with a web browser (as long as this computer has security access privileges to access the router). Selective Storage Presentation (SSP) - allows multiple servers to share a single data router. And by providing a unique map for each host, the user can limit what each host has access to. SCSI Controller Command (SCC) - provides a means for the host server operating system to determine the number FC LUNs supported by the NSR.
The N1200 is supported on a variety of backup applications and operating systems. For a complete listing please visit:
