Warranty

The HP Secure Web Console (J3591A) has a one-year return-to-HP limited hardware and firmware warranty.

Hewlett-Packard warrants this product against defects in materials and workmanship for the duration ofthewarrantyperiod,commencingonthe date of purchase from HP or an HP-authorized reseller.

If your HP Secure Web Console requires warranty service, contact your HP-authorized reseller or local HP representative for assistance.

For defects that occur during the warranty period, HP will, at its option, either repair or replace the defective product, or refund the purchase price. For information on how to contact HP, consult the WEB site http:// www.hp.com/go/webconsole.

This warranty does not apply to defects resulting from improper or inadequate maintenance by the customer; customer-supplied software, interfacing, supplies, unauthorized modification or improper use, operation outside the published environmental specifications for the product, or improper site preparation or maintenance by the customer.

Pre-Installation notes:

You should have obtained an IP address and a subnet mask for the HP Secure Web Console, and know the name of the system to be administered.

The HP Secure Web Console comes with complete online support information on the World Wide Web at http:// www.hp.com/go/webconsole. Select “SUPPORT”, and “FAQ’s”, or “Downloading & Patches”, or “Troubleshooting Tools & Flowcharts”, and “Troubleshooting Flowcharts”. In the “FAQ’s”, check the list of supported WEB browsers (Internet Explorer™ or Netscape Navigator™) versions; on your WEB browser, enable Java™ and Java™ scripts.

Need Help? Follow the troubleshooting steps. For detailed information on support from the World Wide Web, refer to page 7 of this document.

❑ Hardware Installation

1. Connect the LAN RJ45 cable (diagram A).

2. Connect the external power adapter to a wall socket. The device performs hardware and ﬁrmware self-tests, then starts the software boot sequence.

3. Connect the power adapter (diagram B).

4. Connect the serial cable to the system console port

Note: Step C should be executed only after the Initial Conﬁguration is completed.

❑Initial Conﬁguration

Overview

The HP Secure Web Console comes with a pre-conﬁgured IP address 192.0.0.192. An Initial Conﬁguration step is required to assign the ﬁnal IP address to the HP Secure Web Console.

Warning: For security reasons, do not connect the serial cable (diagram C) until you have completed the conﬁguration.

A. If you have a DHCP server, you ﬁrst need to conﬁgure the following entry for the HP Secure WEB Console into the DHCP server conﬁguration ﬁle:

To activate this entry, execute on the DHCP server: bootpd < DHCP conﬁguration ﬁle >

When the HP Secure WEB Console is ﬁrst powered-on, the DHCP server assigns to it the IP address mapped to its MAC address. This is only executed if the HP Secure WEB Console IP address is 192.0.0.192. Connect the serial cable to the console port (see graph C p. 4). From a PC or Workstation, run a browser with http://<Console IP address> and follow the instructions on the screen.

B. If you have no DHCP server, you need to connect to the HP Secure Web Console over the LAN using its 192.0.0.192 IP address.

Note: For this initial step, your HP Secure Web Console must be on the same physical LAN as the client_host (no intermediate IP router); you may temporarily connect the HP Secure Web Console to your client_host’ s LAN and move it to its ﬁnal location only after the ﬁnal IP address has been assigned to it. Note: Power-off any other devices having the same 192.0.0.192 IP address (Check that “ping 192.0.0.192” does not reply before you power-on the HP Secure WEB Console).

Run a web browser from a client_host (PC or a Workstation) on the same IP subnet as the HP Secure WEB Console.

1. Disable Proxies (use “no Proxies” or temporarily add

192.0.0.192 to the list of URLs for which no proxy is conﬁgured), enable Java™ and Java™ scripts.

2. Enter the following commands into either a DOS or UNIX window on the client_host (PC or Workstation where your browser is running) to conﬁgure the HP Secure Web Console and add it to the gateway list:

7. Access the device through your Web browser on the same subnet by typing the following URL: http://192.0.0.192.

8. Follow the instructions on the screen:

* User Parameters: conﬁgure a User Administrator * Network Parameters: Web Console IP address, system name

The Console will then reboot automatically.

9. Now you can connect the serial cable (diagram C p. 4).

❑ Resetting the Conﬁguration

Itmay be necessary to reset your HP SecureWeb Console to the factory settings if, for example, the password has been lost.

Warning! All configuration data will be lost.

1. Power off the console by unplugging the power cable.

2. Press the button on the top of the console (as shown in diagram D) and keep it pressed.

3. Power on the box by replugging the power cable.

4. Release the button after a couple of seconds.

Follow the Initial Configuration steps again.

a. route add 192.0.0.192 <client_host IP address>

b. ping 192.0.0.192. If ping is successful, follow the

instructions Step 7, else proceed with Step c below.
