TheThorVX9Family is aruggedvehicle-mountedcomputerwithaWindows XP, Windows 7orWindows EmbeddedStandard operatingsystem. TheThorVX9includes apowercablebut requires aDC/DC powersupply. Several RAMmount options are availabletomount theThorVX9inavehicle.

About This Guide

This ThorVX9VehicleMountingReferenceGuideprovides instructionfortheinstallertofollow whenmountingaThorVX9ina vehicle.

Powered Vehicle Mounting

Vehiclemountingbrackets arespecifically designedforvehiclemount applications. Thevehiclemountedassembly restrains theThorVX9andisolates it fromshock andvibration.

Overhead, dashandroof support pillarmountingis viaaRAMMount accessory whichincludes all thehardwarerequiredfor vehiclemounting.

Neverput theThorVX9intothevehiclemountedassembly until theassembly is securely fastenedtothevehicle.

Preparing the Powered Vehicle Mounted Cradle for Use

Thepoweredvehiclemountedassembly shouldbesecuredtoanareainthevehiclewhereit:

•Does not obstruct thedriver's visionorsafevehicleoperation.

•Will beprotectedfromrainorinclement weather.

•Will beprotectedfromextremely highconcentrations of dust orwind-blowndebris.

•Canbeeasily accessedby auserseatedinthedriver's seat whilethevehicleis not inoperation.

Quick Start

Thefollowinglist outlines, inageneral way, theprocess tofollow whenpreparingtheThorVX9 poweredvehiclemounted cradleforuse. Refertothefollowingsections inthis document formoredetails.

1.AttachtheRAMbasevehiclemountingassembly tothevehicle.

2.AttachtheRAMarmassembly tothevehiclemountingassembly.

3.AttachtheThorVX9assembly totheRAMarm.

4.Adjust theThorVX9tothebest viewingangle.

5.Connect antenna. Note: Thevehicleremotemount antennacannot beusedby devices withaninternal antenna.

6.Connect peripheral cables.

7.SecuretheDC/DC or12VDC powerconnectorfromthevehiclemountedpowersupply tothePowerport.

8.Secureall cables instrainrelief cableclamps.

TheThorVX9inthepoweredvehiclemountedassembly is ready foruse.

Maintenance - Vehicle Mounted Devices

Check thevehiclemountinghardwarefrequently andre-tightenif necessary.

If thevehiclemountinghardwareandconnections becomebroken, looseorcracked, theassembly must betakenout of serviceandreplaced. Contact Technical Assistanceforhelp.

Cleaning

Donot usepapertowels orharsh-chemical-basedcleaningfluids sincethey may result indamagetotheThorVX9surfaces, cables, connectors andmountinghardware.

Useacleansoft clothtowipeany dirt, moistureorgreasefromtheThorVX9, connectors, cables orthevehiclemounting hardware. Donot useany liquidtocleanthe ThorVX9, orconnectors. Spray ordampenthecleaningclothwiththecleaning liquid. If possible, cleanonly thoseareas whicharesoiled. Lint/particulates canberemovedwithclean, filteredcannedair.

If theThorVX9is orderedwithasingleRAMball, availablemountingoptions include:

•Truck bracket withasingleRAMball (nokeyboardmount provision)

•Truck bracket withaRAMball forThorVX9mount plus aRAMball forkeyboardmount

•RAMball basewithintegratedkeyboardbracket forback of ThorVX9.

Thor VX9 with dual RAM ball option

If theThorVX9is orderedwithdual RAMballs, availablemountingoptions include:

Keyboard mounting options

Individual brackets

• Many individual mountingbrackets arealsoavailable.

Install Mounting Brackets

Caution: This deviceis intendedtotransmit RFenergy. Forprotectionagainst RFexposuretohumans andinaccordance withFCC rules andIndustry Canadarules, this transmittershouldbeinstalledsuchthat aminimumseparationdistanceof at least 20cm(7.8in.)is maintainedbetweentheantennaandthegeneral population. This deviceis not tobeco-locatedwithothertransmitters.

ThefollowingRAMballs areusedtomount theThorVX9:

D-sized (2.25”) balls and arms

•Usedtomount theThorVX9whenasingleRAMball is orderedontheback of theThorVX9. A D-sizedball is alsoused onthetruck.

C-sized (1.5”) balls and arms

•Usedtomount theThorVX9whendual RAMballs areorderedontheback of theThorVX9. A pairof C-sizedballs is alsousedonthetruck.

•Keyboardbrackets alsouseC-sizedball. A correspondingC-sizedball is eitherincludedas part of theThorVX9 mountingbracket ormountedindependently onthetruck forthekeyboardassembly.

Mounting Procedure

Step 1 – Mount Vehicle RAM Ball(s)

DeterminethepositionformountingtheRAMball(s). BesuretopositiontheRAMball(s)toallow access totheswitches and ports onthebottomof theThorVX9.

Dependingontheoptions orderedwiththeThorVX9, theRAMball may be:

•A singleordual RAMball mounteddirectly tothetruck

•A singleordual RAMball mountedtoaplate. Theplatethenmounts tothetruck.

•A singleRAMball integratedwithamountingplate

•A singleordual RAMsqueezeclampstyleball

•A singleordual RAMpipeclampstyleball

Additionally, somemountingplates containaprovisionforanotherRAMball whichis usedtomount thekeyboard.

RAM Ball Mount

Dependingontheoptionordered, theremay beasingleRAMball ordual RAMballs tomount theThorVX9.

1.DeterminethepositionformountingtheRAMball base. BesuretopositiontheRAMbracket toallow access tothe switches andports onthebottomof theThorVX9.

2.AttachtheRAMball basetothevehiclemountingsurfaceusingfour1/4bolts (orequivalent)fasteners.

Note: 1/4bolts not included.

IMPORTANT: Mount tothemost rigidsurfaceavailable.
