User Instruction Manual Supplement - English
3.0 Requirements, Warnings and Limitations
Users must read, understand and follow all requirements, warnings and limitations provided in the Miller Harnesses and Body Belts instruction manual (I119) as well as this supplement.
Fall protection connecting devices should be attached to the back D-ring or back D-ring extension. A front D-ring may be used for fall arrest only in applications where the personal fall arrest system limits the maximum free fall distance to 2 ft. (0.6m) and limits the maximum arrest force to 900 lbs. (4kN).
The back waist level D-ring is designed for restraint applications only.
A personal fall arrest system must be in place and connected at all times when either the bosun chair or seat sling are in use.
The seat sling is designed for short, temporary support and assistance while climbing.
Use bosun chair and seat sling D-rings only for positioning during suspended work or assisted climbing.
Always ensure that there is adequate fall clearance for the application. Remember that the use of the D-ring extension will add 18 in. (458mm) to the fall clearance required.
4.0 Harness Preparation

User Instruction Manual Supplement - English
Attaching Seat Sling
Lay harness on a at surface with the back side facing up. Place the seat sling on the harness just below the belt and back pad with the webbing straps facing up and the mating buckle connectors extending toward the belt and back pad. Connect the mating buckle component on the seat sling with the corresponding mating buckle component on the harness waist strap as shown. Repeat for the opposite side. Ensure that
webbing straps are not
twisted and that buckles
are securely and properly connected.
Attaching Bosun Chair
Lay harness on a at surface with the back side facing up. Place the bosun chair on the harness just below the belt and back pad with the webbing straps facing up and the mating buckle connectors extending toward the belt and back pad. Connect the mating buckle component on the bosun chair with the corresponding mating buckle component on the harness waist strap as shown. Repeat for the opposite side. Ensure that
webbing straps are not
twisted and that buckles
are securely and properly connected.

5.0 Use
Don the harness ensuring that the harness is properly tted and all buckle connections are secure. Refer to I119 - Miller Harnesses and Body Belts instruction manual.
New
Cam Buckle Adjustment
1) Grasp the loose end of web-
bing strap and pull to tighten. Tuck excess webbing into elastic keepers.
2) To loosen, press cam buckle
tab outward to release grip and
pull webbing strap out through buckle.
Fall Arrest (Figs. 1, 2, 3 & 4)
A compatible connecting device and anchorage connector/anchorage must always be used in conjunction with the harness to complete the personal fall arrest system and protect the worker from a fall while working at heights. The bosun chair and seat sling are not designed to arrest a
fall.
The connecting device must be connected to the back D-ring or back D-ring extension on the harness. When the D-ring extension is used, always remember to add 18 in. (458mm) to the fall
clearance calculation.
A two-legged shock-absorbing lanyard or dual self-retracting lifeline system is recommended for climbing applications. Alternatively, a fall arrester attached to a vertical climbing system may be connected to the front D-ring on the harness so long as the personal fall arrest system limits the maximum free fall distance to 2 ft. (0.6m) and limits the maximum arrest force to 900 lbs. (4.0kN).
For non-climbing applications, a single shock-absorbing lanyard or self-retracting lifeline is sufcient.
Suspension (Figs. 1 & 2)
For suspension work, connect the bosun chair D-rings to an approved, compatible suspension system. A personal fall arrest system must be used in conjunction with the suspension system.
Climb-Assist (Fig. 3)
Connect the seat sling D-rings to an approved, compatible climb-assist system. The sling is
designed for temporary support during extended climbing applications. Do not use for suspension
work. A personal fall arrest system must be used in conjunction with the climb-assist system.
Restraint (Fig. 4)
The waist-level back D-ring is designed for restraint applications only. Simply attach a lanyard between the restraint D-ring and the anchorage connector/anchorage. A personal fall arrest system must be used in conjunction with the restraint system.
Note: Always read and follow the instructions provided with all system components
used in conjunction with the AirCore Oil & Gas Harness.
