*
Depending on the types or the writing method of the medium, some discs cannot be played.
• Some DVD-R or CD-R/RW discs made on personal computers, or on DVD recorders may not be played back properly due to factors such as scratches, dirt or special properties of the disc.
• Discs made on personal computers may not be played back properly due to different environments or the settings of the application you use. We recommend always to use the standardized, properly formatted discs. (Please contact your Hitachi dealer for more detail).
• Some discs include region codes as shown below.
• The number inside the symbol refers to a region of the world, and a disc encoded in a specific region format can only be played back on DVD/VCR with the same region code.
If you cannot play back a disc which bears one of the marks above, check the following notes.
*1: This unit conforms to the PAL colour system. Also you can play discs recorded with the NTSC colour systems via a PAL sys-
tem TV set.
*2:

(the picture or sound may be not be smooth, etc.). *4: Scratched or stained discs may not be played back. *5: Some discs cannot be played back because of incompatible recording conditions, characteristics of the recorder or special

Remote Control
Loading the Batteries
1. Open the battery compartment cover.
2. Insert two AA batteries, with each one oriented correctly.
3. Close the cover.
Cautions On Batteries
• Use “AA” (R6P) batteries in this remote control unit.
• Replace the batteries with new ones approximately once a year, though this depends on the frequency with which the remote control unit is used.
• If the remote control unit does not operate from close to the main unit, replace the batteries with new ones, even if less then a year has passed.
Details are on pages 10 and 11.
• The included battery is only for verifying operation. Replace it with a new battery as soon as possible.
• When inserting the batteries, be careful to do so in the proper direction, following the and marks
in the remote control unit’s battery compartment.
• To prevent damage or battery fluid leakage:
• Do not use a new battery with an old one.
• Do not use two different types of batteries such as alkaline and manganese.
• Do not short-circuit, disassemble, heat or dispose of batteries in flames.
• Remove the batteries when not planning to use the remote control unit for a long period of time.
• If the batteries should leak, carefully wipe off the fluid from the inside of the battery compartment, then insert new batteries.

AV2 (DECODER) CONNECTION FOR OTHER EXTERNAL DEVICES
The second Scart socket AV2 (DECODER) is designated for other external devices, e.g. decoder, another VCR, video camera and so on.
NOTE:
• If you want to connect a TV with Scart socket to your DVD/VCR, the TV must be connected to the DVD/VCR through AV1 (TV). A connection to AV2 (DECODER) will not function correctly.

• S-Video output connector The video signals are divided into colour (C) and brightness (Y) signals, achieving a clearer picture. If the TV is equipped with a S-Video input connector, we recommend connecting it to the this product’s S-Video output connector using a commercially available S-Video connection cord.
• If you use the Euro A/V (SCART) jack, it is not necessary to connect the analog audio cable.
• Connect the DVD/VCR directly to a TV. If the A/V cables are connected to a VCR, pictures may be distorted due to the copy protection system.
• When your TV conforms to RGB input signal, the Euro A/V (scart) connection ensures you the best picture and audio quality. However if your TV does not confirm to RGB input signal, the S-VIDEO OUT and analog AUDIO OUT connection is better. (for DVD features only)

BATTERY SAFETY GUIDELINES
BATTERY
SAFETY
GUIDELINES
Take care to fit your batteries correctly, observing the plus and minus marks on the battery and appliance. Incorrect fitting can cause leakage or in extreme cases, fire or even an explosion.
ALWAYS
Replace the whole set of batteries at one time, taking care not to mix old and new batteries or batteries of different types, since this can result in leakage or in extreme cases, fire or even an explosion.
ALWAYS
Used correctly, domestic batteries are a safe and dependable source of portable power. Problems can occur if they are misused or abused — resulting in leakage or, in extreme cases, fire or explosion. Here are some simple guidelines to safe battery use designed to eliminate any such problems.
PLEASE PHOTOCOPY AND DISPLAY
ALWAYS ALWAYS NEVER
Store unused batteries in their packaging and away from metal objects which may cause a shortcircuit resulting in leakage or, in extreme cases, fire or even an explosion.
Remove dead batteries from equipment and all batteries from equipment you know you are not going to use for a long time. Otherwise the batteries may leak and cause damage.
Never dispose of batteries in fire as this can cause them to explode. Please put dead batteries in with the normal household waste.
NEVER ALWAYS NEVER
Never attempt to recharge ordinary batteries, either in a charger or by applying heat to them. They may leak cause fire or even explode. There are special rechargeable batteries which are clearly marked as such.
Supervise children if they are replacing
batteries themselves in order to ensure
these guidelines are followed.
Remember that small button cell batteries such as used in some hearing aids, toys, games and other appliances, are easily swallowed by young children and this can be dangerous.
ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS
Keep loose button cells away from young children.
Make sure battery compartments are
secure.
Seek medical advice if you believe a
cell has been swallowed.
