5. Safety precautions
In addition to the information relevant to safety given in each of the sections of these operating instructions, the following points must be strictly observed at all times. The tool must always be operated correctly, in accordance with the operating instructions and only when in a complete and undamaged state.
Remove the battery from the lamp before storage or transport in order to prevent inadvertent switching on due to the effect of gravity or other influences. This could lead to deep discharge and thus permanent damage to the battery or damage to other objects as a result of the heat generated by the lamp.
Avoid short-circuiting the battery. A short circuit may present a fire hazard.
Check that the battery is seated securely in the tool.
Warning: Hot surface
The glass may become hot if the lamp is covered or left switched on for long periods.
This may present a risk of burning the hands.
Do not cover the lamp or leave it switched on for long
periods while unattended and do not touch the glass when it is hot. If covered, the hot glass may cause an inflammable material to ignite.
6. Before use
It is essential that the safety precautions printed in these operating instructions are read and observed.
The SFL 12/15 may be used only with SFB121, SFB126, SFB150 or SFB155 batteries. The SFL 18 may be used only with SFB180 or SFB185 batteries. The SFL 24 may be used only with B 24/2.0 NiCd, B 24/2.4 NiCd or B 24/3.0 NiMH batteries. The SFL 36 may be used only with BP 6/86 batteries.
Before use, a new battery must be charged for 24 hours at the normal rate or for 12 hours using the conditioning charge function in order to ensure that the battery cells form correctly.

8. Care and maintenance
8.1 Care of the tool
The outer casing of the tool is manufactured from impactresistant plastic. The grip sections are manufactured from synthetic rubber. Clean the outside of the tool at regular intervals with a slightly damp cloth. Do not use a spray cleaning system, high-pressure steam cleaning system or running water for cleaning. These may negatively affect the electrical safety of the tool. Always keep the grip sections of the tool free from oil and grease. Do not use cleaning agents or polishes, etc. containing silicone.
8.2 Care of the battery
Keep the electrical contacts free from dust, oil and grease. If necessary, use a clean cloth to clean the contact surfaces. In the event of battery capacity dropping below an acceptable level after a long period of use, we recommend that the battery is returned to Hilti for a diagnostic check. Avoid short-circuiting the battery contacts. This could present a risk of fire in certain situations and may cause corrosive liquid to leak from the battery. Avoid contact with this liquid.
