Heritage Audio 2264JR User manual

HERITAGE AUDIO 2264JR PRELIMINARY USER GUIDE
The 2264JR is a 2 slot 500 series Compressor and Microphone Preamplifier. Both uses cannot be archived at the same time.
Its audio path is fully discrete Class A, transformer balanced. All controls are stepped on rotary switches for easy recall and high precision.
It features discrete inputs for Compression / Line amp (Left slot input) and mic (Right slot input).
Output in both cases is in the Left slot output.
Use as a compression amplifier
The 2264JR turns into a class A compressor by pressing the “DYN” (dynamics ) switch. The Gain reduction meter will light, indicating compression is engaged.
- Hi pass filter button: Engages a 200 Hz high pass filter on the sidechain circuit,
(not signal path!) eliminating the effect of heavy bass signals riding the compression effect.
- FAST button: Sets the attack into FAST mode, and is the attack originally found in
the classic 2264 range of compressor modules.
- LINK button: Links 2 or more compressors OF THE SAME TYPE. Please read the
note at the end of this document before pressing the LINK button, as damage to third party units may occur.
- RECOVERY switch: Sets the release time. Auto modes A1 and A2 set different
release times for peaks and program material and can be taken as start points.
- THRESHOLD switch: Sets the signal level above which compression occurs.
- RATIO switch: Sets the relationship between input and output signal levels.
- GAIN MAKEUP: Amplifies the already compressed signal in 2dB steps.
Use as a 1073 style Mic Preamplifier
The 2264JR turns into a real 1073 mic preamplifier by pressing the MIC button. This action overrides the “DYN” button, even if the Gain Reduction meter is lit.
Mic signal must be applied on the Right slot input and phantom power is available on the red illuminated push button.
The Gain Makeup rotary switch turns into a 20dB Output Attenuator in 2dB steps ( all clock wise full output, all counterclockwise full 20dB attenuation ).
The Ratio rotary switch turns into the MIC INPUT GAIN control reading the orange line on the double bar grey knob. Gain from 35 to 60 dB in steps of 5dB is available.
Use as a 1073 style Line Amplifier
The 2264JR can be used as a 20dB Class A, 1073 topology, transformer coupled line amplifier. To operate as a Line Amp, both MIC and DYN push buttons must be depressed.
The only active control is Gain Makeup, which turns into the actual gain of the amplifier, from unity to 20dB.
Linking several 2264JRs
In order to properly link 2 or more 2264JRs, these steps must be followed:
- Install all 2264JRs to be linked in adjacent slots.
- Isolate the 2264JR linking signal from the rest of the LINK bus: 500 series
enclosures provide a LINK bus on Pin 6 of each slot. All Pin 6s are joined together by jumpers or zero ohm resistors .Remove the jumpers / resistors that would link your 2264JRs with the rest of the bus. For example:
o 2264JRs in slots 1 to 4, remove resistor/jumper in between slot 4 and 5. o 2264JRs in slots 2 to 5, remove resistor/jumper in between slot 1 and 2,
and resistor/ jumper in between slot 5 and 6.
o Etc.
