INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
NOTE: Instructions apply to all models unless otherwise specified. STEP 1: Unpack the blanket. Lay flat with inner surface (silver) up.
STEP 2: MODEL 7603BLH/7603BL240H: Install the power cord in the junction box using a
suitable hazardous-rated electrical fitting and either rigid or flexible metallic conduit. The junction box is undrilled; the user must drill the appropriate size hole for the electrical fitting used. Wire the power cord to terminal block referencing the supplied electrical drawing. The cord and fittings selected must have the appropriate hazardous rating required for the installation location. The Model 7603BL240H/7603BL240H must use a ground fault protection device (30mA GFCI) for Heat Trace.
NOTICE: MODEL 7603BLH/ 7603BL240H REQUIRES MINIMUM NEMA/TYPE 4 COMPLIANT EQUIPMENT. ALL POWER CONNECTIONS MUST BE MADE ACCORDING TO NEC/ CEC CODE USING FLEXIBLE CONDUIT OR CABLE RATED FOR CLASS I, II, DIVISION 2 – NO RIGID CONNECTION PERMITTED. THE CORD AND FITTINGS SELECTED MUST HAVE THE APPROPRIATE HAZARDOUS LOCATIO N RATING REQUIRED FOR THE INSTALLATION LOCATION.
STEP 3: Set empty 7603 tank on top ensuring tank lip is resting on plastic feet and not
crushing the heat trace.

STEP 4: Wrap the side blanket around the tank and attach the bottom and side Velcro
closures.
STEP 5: Fill tank in accordance with 7603 instructions and attach the eyewash plumbing.
STEP 6: Attach the end of heat trace the eyewash plumbing below the ball valve with supplied
cable tie. Ensure the heat trace does not interfere with the push flag operation. Remove the adhesive backing from Velcro strip on the back of the junction box and secure the junction box to the top of the tank.
STEP 7: Attach junction box to tank handle with supplied cable tie.

STEP 8: Attach grounding clamp to tank handle. Attach second ground clamp around metal
hub on the junction box. Connect the two ground clamps with the supplied grounding wire.
STEP 9: Attach conical top blanket with Velcro closures. Align the seam of the top blanket with
the push flag. The electrical cord may exit across the Velcro seem at any location.
IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE
THE NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE REQUIRES GROUND-FAULT EQUIPMENT PROTECTION ON EACH HEATING CABLE BRANCH CIRCUIT. TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE CAUSED BY DAMAGE OR IMPROPER INSTALLATION, CIRCUIT BREAKERS SUCH AS SQU ARE D QO-EPD AND QOB-EPD OR EQUIVALENT, WITH A 30mA TRIP LEVEL, SHOULD BE USED. PLEASE SUBSTITUTE THESE BREAKERS WHEREVER REFERENCE IS MADE TO CONVENTIONAL BREAKERS IN THIS DOCUMENT. ALTERNATIVE DESIGNS PROVIDING COMPARABLE LEVELS OF GROUND-FAULT PROTECTION MAY ALSO BE ACCEPTABLE.

thermostat can be installed.
The 7603BLH/7603BL240H can be connected to power year-around. The non-adjustable thermostat will shut off heat cable when air temperature rises to 82°-72°F (28°-22°C). Heat cycle will repeat when air temperature drops to between 62°-72°F (16°-22°C). Periodic check of water temperature of eyewash will confirm normal operating temperatures between 62°-95°F (16°-35°C).
Heat trace cable used on this blanket heats slowly and may take several hours to warm cold water into ANSI recommend temperature range of 60°F (15°C) to 100°F ( 38°C).
1. Heat trace does not turn on. 1. a. No power. Check GFCI and circuit
b. If ambient temperature is high and
doesn’t allow the blanket temperature to drop below 67°F (19°C) the heater may not switch on. Heater settings are: Nonadjustable thermostat preset to switch on at 67°± 5°F (17°± 3°C) and switch off 77°± 5°F (25°± 3°C). Test the thermostat and heater function by applying ice thermostat for approximately 3-5 minutes. The heat trace cable should become warm to the touch when operating properly. Thermostat is located
2. Eyewash water is above 100°F (38°C).
1. a. Ambient air temperature is above 100°F (38°C). Relocate eyewash out of direct
b. Shut off electric power. All electric
connections are made inside the junction box. Thermostat is mounted on the side of junction box. Disconnect thermostat leads from terminal block and wire nut in junction box. Check thermostat continuity: open circuit above 82°F (28°C), closed below 62°F (16°C). Thermostat is not adjustable and should be replaced if either of the continuity checks are incorrect. If unit is subject to freezing temperatures, temporarily disconnect thermostat and reconnect wiring to bypass thermostat and protect eye wash from freezing until replacement
