Air Supply
TO PREVENT SERIOUS INJURY FROM EXPLOSION: Use only clean, dry, regulated, compressed air to power this tool. Do not use oxygen, carbon dioxide, combustible gases, or any other bottled gas as a power source for this tool.
1. Incorporate a filter, regulator with pressure gauge, oiler, in-line shutoff valve, and quick coupler for best service, as shown on Figure C on page 10 and Figure D on page 11. An in-line shutoff
ball valve is an important safety device because it controls the air supply even if the air hose is ruptured. The shutoff valve should be a ball valve because it can be closed quickly.
Note: If an automatic oiler system is not used,
add a few drops of Pneumatic Tool Oil to the airline connection before operation. Add a few more drops after each hour of continual use.
2. Attach an air hose to the compressor's air outlet. Connect the air hose to the air inlet of the tool. Other components, such as a coupler plug and quick coupler, will make operation more efficient, but are not required.
WARNING! TO PREVENT SERIOUS INJURY
FROM ACCIDENTAL OPERATION: Do not install a female quick coupler on the tool.
Such a coupler contains an air valve that will allow the air tool to retain pressure and operate accidentally after the air supply is disconnected.
Note: Air flow, and therefore tool performance, can be hindered by undersized air supply components. The air hose must be long enough to reach the work area with enough extra length to allow free movement while working.
3. Turn the tool's throttle or switch to the off position; refer to Operation section for description of controls.
4. Close the in-line shutoff valve between the compressor and the tool.
5. Turn on the air compressor according to the manufacturer's directions and allow it to build up pressure until it cycles off.
6. Adjust the air compressor's output regulator so that the air output is enough to properly power the tool, but the output will not exceed the tool's maximum air pressure at any time. Adjust the pressure gradually, while checking the air output gauge to set the right pressure range.
7. Inspect the air connections for leaks. Repair any leaks found.
8. If the tool will not be used at this time, turn off and detach the air supply, safely discharge any residual air pressure, and release the throttle and/or turn the switch to its off position to prevent accidental operation.
Note: Residual air pressure should not be present after the tool is disconnected from the air supply. However, it is a good safety measure to attempt to discharge the tool in a safe fashion after disconnecting to ensure that the tool is disconnected and not powered.

General Operating Instructions
Polishing
1. If an automatic oiler is not used, add a few
SAFETY OPERATION MAINTENANCESETUP
drops of Pneumatic Tool Oil to the airline connection before use. Add a few drops more after each hour of continual use.
2. Make sure the surface to polish has been thoroughly washed, and is free of dust, dirt, oil, grease, etc.
3. Place a clean Foam Pad (sold separately) securely onto the Backing Pad.
2. Apply about two tablespoons of wax (not included) evenly on the clean Foam Pad.
CAUTION! Do not apply the wax directly to the surface of the vehicle. The amount of wax needed will vary according to the size of the vehicle being waxed.
CAUTION: Only use the slower speeds (less pressure on the Throttle) for polishing. Otherwise, damage may occur to the paint being polished. Do not polish in one position for more than a few seconds. Harbor Freight Tools is not responsible for damage to the vehicle’s finish due to improper use of this Polisher/Sander.
Note: Always start and stop the Polisher/Sander while it is held firmly against the surface of the vehicle. Failure to do so may result in the Foam Pad or Polishing Bonnet being thrown from the Polishing Pad.
3. To start, position the unit on the area to be polished, grip the Polisher/Sander firmly with both hands and squeeze the Throttle.
4. Keep pressure off of the Polisher/Sander when operating. The Foam Pad should LIGHTLY contact the polishing surface.
CAUTION: To prevent damage to the foam pad, polishing bonnet, and vehicle finish: Only apply the pad/bonnet flat against the surface, see below.
6. If the tool requires more force to accomplish the task, verify that the tool receives sufficient, unobstructed airflow (CFM) and increase the pressure (PSI) output of the regulator up to the maximum air pressure rating of this tool.
CAUTION! TO PREVENT INJURY FROM TOOL OR ACCESSORY FAILURE: Do not exceed the tool’s maximum air pressure rating.
If the tool still does not have sufficient force at maximum pressure and sufficient airflow, then a larger tool may be required.
7. Add additional wax to the Polishing Pad as needed. To add additional wax:
a. Release the Throttle and allow the Polisher/
Sander to come to a complete stop.
b. Add a small amount of wax evenly
over the pad surface.
c. Avoid using too much wax. For additional
applications of wax to Foam Pad, reduce amount of wax. Foam Pad will not absorb as much wax in subsequent applications.
d. Resume operation.
Note: The most common error when waxing/polishing a vehicle is applying too much wax. If Foam Pad becomes saturated with wax, applying wax will be more difficult and will take longer. Applying too much wax may also reduce life of Foam Pad. If Foam Pad continually comes off the Backing Pad during use, too much wax may have been applied.
8. After the wax has been applied to the vehicle’s surface, release the Throttle and disconnect the air supply.
9. Remove the Foam Pad from the Backing Pad and with your hand and the Foam Pad, apply wax to any hard to reach areas of the vehicle such as around lights, door handles, under bumpers, etc.
10. Allow sufficient time for wax to dry.
11. Place a clean Polishing Bonnet (sold separately) securely onto the Backing Pad.
Note: Tightly pull the string to secure the Polishing Bonnet. Secure the string and keep it out of the way by tying several knots.
Figure F: Polishing Angle
5. Begin using the Polisher/Sander to apply wax to the vehicle. Apply the wax to all flat surfaces with broad, sweeping strokes in a crisscross pattern. Apply the wax evenly over the surface of the vehicle.
Page 14 For technical questions, please call 1-800-444-3353. Item 60615
12. Start the Polisher/Sander and begin buffing off the dried wax.
13. When you have removed as much wax as you can with the Polisher/Sander, release the Throttle and disconnect the air supply.
Page 15
Polishing (cont.)
14. Remove the Polishing Bonnet from Backing Pad. Using the Polishing Bonnet, remove the wax from all hard to reach areas of the vehicle.
Sanding
1. If an automatic oiler is not used, add a few drops of Pneumatic Tool Oil to the airline connection before use. Add a few drops more after each hour of continual use.
2. Make sure that the surface to be sanded is wiped clean of all dirt and debris, especially that of previous courser sanding sessions, which will scratch the surface of a finer grit sanding session.
3. Attach the desired grit Sanding Disk (sold separately) onto the Backing Pad.
4. Attach the air supply.
5. To start, grip the Polisher/Sander firmly with both hands and depress the Throttle.
6. Wait until the Polisher/Sander has reached full speed, then gently contact the surface.
7. Keep heavy pressure off of the Polisher/Sander when operating. Allow the sanding disk to do the work.
8. Move the Polisher/Sander in a uniform pattern up and down or side to side as you sand to ensure even sanding.
15. To prevent accidents, after use, release the Throttle, detach the air supply then safely discharge any residual air pressure in the tool. Clean external surfaces of the tool with clean, dry cloth, and apply a thin coat of tool oil. Then store the tool indoors out of children’s reach.
SAFETYOPERATIONMAINTENANCE SETUP
11. When finished, release the Throttle and disconnect the air supply.
12. Allow the tool to come to a complete stop before setting it down.
13. To prevent accidents, after use, release the Throttle, detach the air supply then safely discharge any residual air pressure in the tool. Clean external surfaces of the tool with clean, dry cloth, and apply a thin coat of tool oil. Then store the tool indoors out of children’s reach.
