Safety Warnings and Precautions

Safety Warnings and Precautions
1. Keep children away. Children must never be allowed
in the work area. Do not let them handle the Purity Pen
or the test water. It is a delicate instrument that breaks
easily.
2. Use the right product for the job. There are certain
applications for which this product was designed. Do
not modify this product and do not use this product for
a purpose for which it was not intended. This product
is designed as a portable tester for homeowner water
testing. It is not designed for commercial applications
with toxic or contaminated waters.
3. Use eye protection. Always wear ANSI approved
impact safety goggles when working with tools and
equipment.
Warning: The warnings, cautions, and instructions discussed
in this instruction manual cannot cover all possible conditions and situations that may occur. It must be understood
by the operator that common sense and caution are factors
which cannot be built into this product, but must be supplied by the operator.
Operation
Warning! Do not put the Purity Pen in boiling water, dirty water,
or solvents. Keep the tip clean and do not touch the tip other
than cleaning it with a clean, lint free cloth. Do not knock, twist
or pull the detector terminal. Do not short-circuit the two terminals of the detector; damage to the Test Pen could occur.
Note: When this manual refers to “pure” water, it is referring to
distilled water which the Purity Pen indicates at a value of 60 or
below.
Note: Do not use a metal container to test water. Only test a
sample once, using only one Purity Pen. Failure to heed these
warnings will cause innacurate test results.
Note: To insure test precision, the temperature of the water to
be tested should be the same as the ambient temperature. Make
sure the detector is clean, and do not touch the detector. A
glass of water should only be tested one time. Use another
glass of water if another test is needed.

See Assembly Drawing on page 4.
1. To insure precision results, try to test a water sample with the
same ambient temperature.
2. Take off the protective Sheath (#2).
3. Put no more than 1-1/2” of water in a sample cup.
4. Slide the switch to the “on” position and immediately let go of
the switch.
5. Wait until the display reads “------”. Then put the tip of the Pen
into the sample being careful not to let the metal tip touch the
bottom of the container. Hold the pen vertical, in this position,
for three seconds. The test results will be shown on the display.
6. Remove the Pen from the water and the display will return to
“------”. Slide the switch to the “on” position and immediately let
go of the switch and the display will go blank. If you forget to
turn it off, it will automatically go off in 3 seconds. Replace the
protective Sheath (#2).
Note: Testing values listed on page 4.
Maintenance
1. Keep the tip clean by wiping it with a clean, lint free cloth.
2. Always store the Pen in its protective Sheath (#2).

60-200 = Drinkable water
200-300 = Only drinkable after boiling or using a filtration device
Above 300 = Absolutely not drinkable water
Note: You may test other drinks (juice, milk, soda) and use the
same scale as above. If you test a product once and then test
another container of the same product, and get a different reading, it means the product with the highest value is deteriorating.
