Taking measurements
Submer ge the elec trode in th e solution
to be tes ted while s tirring it g ently. The
measu rements sh ould be take n when
the st ability s ymbol on the to p left of the
LCD disappears.
The pH va lue automa tically co mpensate d for
tempe rature is sh own on the pr imary LCD wh ile the
secon dary LCD sh ows the temp erature of t he sample.
To freeze the display
While in m easuremen t mode, pre ss the

6.86 / 9.18). C hange the s et with the SE T/HOLD
but ton, then pre ss /MODE to return to n ormal
measuring mode.
pH Electrode Maintenance
• When no t in use, rins e the elect rode wit h water to
minimi ze contamin ation and s tore it wit h a few drops
of HI7030 0 storage s olution in t he protec tive cap.
DO NOT USE D ISTILLED OR DE IONIZED WATER FOR
STORAGE PURPOSES.
• If the el ectrode h as been lef t dry, soak in s torage
solut ion for at lea st one hour to r eactiv ate it.
• To prolong th e life of the pH e lectrod e, it is
recom mended to cl ean it month ly by immers ing
it in the H I7061 cleanin g solutio n for half an hou r.
After wards, r inse it thor oughly wit h tap water a nd
recalibrate the meter.
The pH el ectrode c an be easily r eplaced by us ing the
supplied tool (HI73128).
Inser t the tool in to
the electrode cavity
as show n above.
Pull th e electro de out by usin g the other s ide of the
tool. Inse rt a new pH ele ctrode fo llowing th e above
instr uction s in reverse o rder.
Rotat e the elect rode
counterclockwise.
Battery Replacement
The meter displays the remaining battery percentage
ever y time it is swi tched on. Wh en the bat tery leve l
is belo w 5%, the symb ol on the bot tom left of
the LCD li ghts up to ind icate a low ba ttery co ndition.
The ba tteries s hould be repl aced soon . If the bat tery
level is l ow enough to c ause erron eous readin gs,
the met er shows “% 0 B ATT” an d the Batt ery Erro r
Preve ntion Syste m (BEPS) will a utomatic ally turn
the met er o. To chang e the batte ries, remo ve the
4 screw s located o n the top of the m eter (g. 1).
g. 1 g. 2
Once th e top has been r emoved, ca refully rep lace the
4 bat teries loc ated in the co mpartm ent while pay ing
atte ntion to the ir polarit y (g. 2).
Replac e the top, maki ng sure that t he gasket
is prop erly seat ed in place, an d tighten the
screw s to ensure a wa tertigh t seal.
Note: Bat teries shou ld only be repla ced in a safe area
using the b attery t ype specifie d in this instru ction
manua l. Old batter ies should be d isposed in

Calibration
For bet ter accur acy, frequen t calibrat ion of the
instr ument is rec ommended . In additio n, the
instrument must be recalibrated whenever:
a) The pH ele ctrode is r eplaced.
b) After testing aggressive chemicals.
c) Where hi gh accurac y is require d.
d) At leas t once a month .
Calibration procedure
From no rmal measu ring mode, p ress and hol d the
/MODE b utton unt il “OFF” on th e secondar y LCD
is repla ced by “CAL”.
Releas e the butt on. The LCD en ters the cal ibration
mode di splaying “p H 7.0 1 USE” (or “pH 6.86 USE ” if the
NIST bu er set was sel ected).
After 1 s econd the m eter acti vates the au tomatic
buer r ecogniti on feature. I f a valid bue r is
detec ted then it s value is sho wn on the pri mary
displa y and “REC” ap pears on t he secondar y LCD.
If no val id buer is det ected, th e meter keep s
the “US E” indicat ion activ e for 12 secon ds, and
then it r eplaces it w ith “WRNG ”, indic ating the
sampl e being meas ured is not a va lid buer.
For a single-point calibr ation with bu ers pH 4.01,
9.18 or 10.01 , the meter au tomatica lly accepts t he
calibr ation whe n the readin g is stable; t he meter
displa ys the accep ted buer, wit h the messa ge “OK 1”.
After 1 s econd the m eter automa tically re turns to th e
norma l measurin g mode.
If a sing le-point ca libratio n with buer p H 7. 01
(or pH 6.86) i s desired, th en after th e calibrat ion
point h as been accep ted the /MODE but ton must b e
press ed in order to r eturn to nor mal mode.
After t he butto n is pressed , the meter sh ows
“7.01” (or “6.86”) - “ OK 1” and, afte r 1 second, it
autom atically r eturns to th e normal me asuring mo de.
Note: A two -point calib ration is recom mended for
better accuracy.
For a two-po int calibration, place th e electro de in
pH 7.01 (or pH 6.86) bu er. After the r st calibr ation
point h as been accep ted, the “pH 4.0 1 USE” messa ge
appea rs. The me ssage is hel d for 12 secon ds, unless
a valid b uer is recog nized. If no v alid buer is
recog nized, then t he “WRNG” m essage is s hown.
If a vali d buer (pH 4.01 , 9.18 or 10.01) is detec ted,
then th e meter compl etes the ca libration p rocedure .
When th e buer is acce pted, the LCD s hows the
accept ed value wi th the “OK 2” m essage, an d then
the met er returns t o the norma l measuring m ode.
Note: When t he calibrati on procedure is co mpleted,
the “CA L” ta g is turned on.
To quit calibration and reset to default values
• Af ter enter ing the ca libratio n mode and b efore the f irst
poin t is accepte d, it is pos sible to qui t the proce dure and
retur n to the las t calibr ation dat a by press ing the /MODE
but ton. The se condar y LCD display s “ESC” fo r 1 second
and the m eter retur ns to the nor mal measu ring mode.
• To reset t o the defaul t values and c lear a previ ous
calibr ation, pr ess the SET/HOL D button a fter
enter ing the calib ration mo de and befor e the first
point i s accepted. T he seconda ry LCD displ ays
“CLR ” for 1 second, t he meter res ets to the de fault
calibr ation and t he “CAL” tag on th e LCD disappe ars.
