Battery Indicator
The meter features a low battery indicator. When the battery is running low, the tag will blink on screen. When the battery has been depleted, “Erb” will appear on screen and the meter will turn off.
Clear Calibration
Place meter in calibration mode. Press and hold ON/OFF until “CLr” is displayed. The meter will now be at default calibration.
“Err” Message
In calibration mode, if the meter displays an “Err” message when in the correct fresh buffer solution then the probe should be cleaned. Place the probe in the HI700630 cleaning solution for 20 minutes. Rinse with purified water and place in storage solution for a minimum of 30 minutes before calibrating.
Auto-off
From measurement mode, press and hold the ON/OFF button. The meter will cycle through “OFF,” “CAL,” then current auto-off setting.
The default setting is 8 minutes (“d08”). Press ON/OFF button to change. “d60” is auto-off after 60 minutes, and “d--” disables the auto-off feature. Press and hold the button to exit the menu.

To obtain the hi ghest accurac y for measureme nts it is import ant to follow the se tips:
• Fresh buf fer should be use d for each calibrat ion. Calibration is onl y as good as the buffe r being use d. The pH buf fer values c hange over ti me once the sa chets are op ened.
• The probe s hould be rinsed wi th purified wat er each time befo re placing in buff er or sample to b e tested.
• When the me ter is not in use it i s important to a dd several dro ps of storage s olution to the prote ctive cap to ke ep the probe hydr ated. If stora ge solution is no t available, pH
4.01 or pH 7.01 buffer can be u sed.
• For improv ed accuracy it is r ecommended t o calibrate in tw o buffers .
• It is import ant to calibrate and me asure samples at the s ame temperature as t here is no temperature compensation. A dramatic change in temperature between buffer solutio ns and samples to b e tested will gi ve inaccurate re adings.
Refilling the Electrode
• If fouled, r inse the sleeve and s ensor tip with pu rified water. Turn ove r the probe, remove th e sleeve by caref ully rotating it an d pull straight alon g the axis of the electr ode. Use care as the pH s tem is made of glas s. Rinse off any t races of electrolyte gel.
• Soak the senso r tip in HI700601P or HI700630P cleaning solution for 20 minutes t hen rinse wi th purifie d water.
• Refill the refe rence well with HI9 071 Gelled Bridge Electrolyte.
• Replace the reference sle eve: insert and push the sl eeve onto the ele ctrode. Make sure the bla ck O-ring is fixe d inside the electr ode body. Any excess o f gel will be expelle d from the end of t he electro de through the o pen junction .
• Rinse any ex cess gel off wi th purified wate r and gently dry of f body wit h a soft cloth o r tissue.
• Soak assembled probe in Electrode storage solution for a minimum of 30 min utes.
• Rinse prob e with purifi ed water.
• Shake the el ectrode down a s you would do with a cl inical thermom eter to elimina te any air bubbles in side the glass b ulb.
• Calibrate in fresh buffers before using for measurements.
Care and Maintenance
Warranty
The meter is warranted for a period of one year against defects in workmanship and materials when used for their intended purpose and maintained according to instructions. This warranty is limited to repair or replacement free of charge. Damage due to accidents, misuse, tampering or lack of prescribed maintenance is not covered. If service is required, contact your local Hanna Instruments Office. If under warranty, report the model number, date of purchase, serial number and the nature of the problem. If the repair is not covered by the warranty, you will be notified of the charges incurred. If the instrument is to be returned to Hanna Instruments, first obtain a Returned Goods Authorization (RGA) number from the Technical Service department and then send it with shipping costs prepaid. When shipping any instrument, make sure it is properly packaged for complete protection.

Intended use
The meter has been specially designed for meat processing. In the meat processing industr y, the monito ring of pH is conside red to be of the utm ost importanc e due to its effec t on the meat's q uality facto rs including wate r binding capacit y and shelf life. Up on slaughte r, biochemical proces ses begin to break d own the meat. Glyco lysis begins post mortem, c onverting gly cogen to lactic acid, reducing the pH o f the carcass. De pending on a number of f actors such as ty pe of animal and even bre ed, this decrease in p H can take anywhere from a singl e hour to many. It is vital t o monitor pH during t his phase as once the lo west pH value is reach ed, the pH will begin to s lowly rise, indica ting that decomposition has begun. The pH value o f meat influence s its’ water bind ing capacity wh ich directly impacts consumer q ualities such as tenderness and co lor. Lower pH value s result in a lower water-bin ding capacit y and lighter colo rs. Factor s such as thes e can be importa nt when consider ing how to ef ficiently p roduce meat pr oducts. Fo r example, when p roducing dr y sausage s the meat must ha ve a low water bindin g capacity so t hat it can dry eve nly. Dependin g on the type of th e final product an d the steps requi red to get there, pH values wil l vary throughout t he meat processin g industry. It is impera tive, regardless of the fina l product, that pH b e maintained at a lo w value to preven t bacterial spo ilage and comply w ith food sa fety regul ations. By mon itoring pH valu es throughou t the meat product ion process, y ou can ensure the c reation of cons istent and safe m eat product s.
Meter Overview
Preparation:
The pH elec trode is shipped with a protect ive cap containing s torage solut ion. Before using the meter, remove the protective cap and cond ition the elec trode by soakin g the tip (bot tom 4 cm (1.5”)) in pH 7.01 buffer solut ion for several m inutes. Then fo llow the calibration procedure.
• Do not be alarm ed if white cry stals appear aroun d the cap. This is norm al with pH electr odes and they dis solve when rin sed with wate r.
• Turn the meter o n by pressing ON /OFF button.
NEVER IMMER SE THE ELECTROD E OVER THE MAXIM UM IMMERSION LEV EL.
• For best results rec alibrate periodically.
• After use, rins e the electrode w ith water and sto re it with a few drops of s torage solutio n in the protect ive cap.
• Reinstall the pro tective cap af ter each use.
DO NOT USE DIST ILLED OR DEIONIZED WATER F OR STORAGE PUR POSES.
Open Reference Junction with removable sleeve design
Suspende d solids can permanently clog the p ores of a ceramic reference junction. The open junct ion design provide s a constant junct ion potential and m inimizes blockage b y providing an ope n gel interfac e between th e sample and in ternal Ag /AgCl refere nce. Should me at enter into the jun ction, the juncti on can be easily clean ed and refreshed with new bridge electrolyte.
