Procedure
Turn the meter o n by pressin g the butt on.
All tags w ill be display ed. The disp lay will
show “Add rEF ” with “Pre ss” blinki ng to
indicat e the meter is r eady to calib rate.
Open the c over and inse rt the
sealed glycerol reference cuvette
into the m eter. Close the c over.
Press th e button to c alibrate t he
meter. Thre e lines will bl ink to show
that cal ibration is t aking pla ce.
The displ ay will then sh ow “Add Cu”
with “Pr ess” blink ing when th e meter
has succe ssfully b een calibra ted.
Fill a clean , dry cuve tte with 10 mL o f
maple sy rup sampl e and replace t he cap.
Open the c over and inse rt the cuv ette
into the m eter. Close the c over.
Press th e button to t ake the
measure ment. Thre e lines will b link to
show tha t a measureme nt is taking p lace.
The mete r displays th e percent lig ht
transm ittance o f the maple s yrup. To
take anot her sampl e reading, pr ess
the but ton. To turn o, pres s and hold
the but ton for 3 seco nds. The me ter
automaticallyturns o after 10 minutes.
Recommendations for Users
Before us ing Hanna pr oducts , make sure tha t they are en tirely sui table for yo ur
speci c applicat ion and for th e environm ent in which t hey are use d. Operat ion
of these i nstrume nts may cau se unaccep table inte rferenc es to other el ectroni c

Battery Management
To conserve b atter y, the instrum ent shuts d own after
10 minutes o f non-use. To repla ce the bat tery, turn th e
instr ument o by hol ding the but ton until t he meter shu ts
o. Turn the instr ument upsi de down and re move the
batte ry cover wi th a screwdr iver. Remove th e batter y from
its loc ation and re place it wit h a new one, ins erting th e
negati ve end rst . Replace the b atter y cover and scr ew.
Tips for an Accurate
Measurement
When tak ing measur ements, th e outside o f the cuvet te
must be dr y and free o f syrup, ng erprint s, oil, or dir t.
Wipe it th oroughly w ith a lint-free cl oth prior to i nsertio n.
Make sure cu vettes a nd syring es are comple tely
dry bef ore using. E xcess water w ill leave st reaks
in the syr up sample w hich may ae ct result s.
Dispens e or pour the s ample slow ly. When trans ferring
the syr up into the cu vette, be c areful not t o generate
bubble s as they may cau se inaccur ate readin gs.
It is impor tant tha t the sampl e is not
turbid a nd does not co ntain debr is.
