Hanna Instruments HI 731340 User Manual

HINTS FOR ACCURATE MEASUREMENTS
Instruction Guide
1. Use the pipette in a vertical position whenever possible.
2. Operate slowly and smoothly. Aspiration and dispensing should been carried-out with the same speed.
3. The tip should be immersed in the sample liquid the minimum necessary (2-4 mm). Greater depths may cause inaccurate measures.
4. Change the tip whenever a different kind of sample is to be aspired or when droplets remain on the inside wall of the tip from the previous pipetting operation.
5. Work always with samples at room temperature.
PIPETTE MAINTENANCE
1. Liquid should never enter the pipette shaft. To avoid this:
• never use pipette without a tip
• do not invert pipette upside down or lay it flat when there
is a liquid in the tip
• press and release the push button slowly and smoothly.
2. When pipetting concentrated acids or alkalis or corrosive solutions, pay particular attention to avoid contact of the liquid with the pipette shaft, or it could be seriously damaged. Extensive contact with corrosive fumes may result in premature ageing of internal components of the pipette.
3. After use, store the pipette in its case or in a clean safe place.

HI 731340/1/2 is an air-displacement volumetric pipette designed to measure and transfer fixed volumes of liquids that needs to be precisely dosed.
The liquid is aspirated into deposable tips. The use of disposable tips eliminate cross contamination of the liquid samples.
To discard used tips, the pipette is equipped with a built-in tip ejector to protect the user from contaminated tips.

OPERATION
1. Mounting a tip: Place a new tip on the pipette by pressing and gently rotating
the shaft into the tip. The tip will fit firmly the shaft. Note: Never use the pipette without a tip.
2. Aspiration:
Press the pushbutton to the first stop (fig. A). Holding the
pipette vertically, immerse the tip into the sample liquid to the depth of 2-4 mm.
Release the pushbutton slowly and smoothly (3-6 seconds).
Pause (1-2 seconds) to allow the full volume of liquid to fill up the tip (longer for high density or viscous liquids) (fig. B).
Withdraw the pipette out of the liquid. If any liquid remains
on the outside of the tip, wipe it away carefully with a lint-free cloth (take care not to touch the tip orifice).
3. Dispensing:
Holding the pipette vertically, position the tip end against
the sidewall of the receiving cuvet at a 40-45° angle. Expel the liquid by pressing slowly the pushbutton; pass by the first stop to the second stop (bottom of the stroke length). Wait 13 seconds to empty completely the tip (longer for viscous liquids) (fig. C).
Still holding the pushbutton depressed, withdraw the pipette
sliding it along the wall of the vessel. Then release the pushbutton.
Discard the tip to waste container by pressing the tip ejector
button (fig. D).
The pipette is ready for the next pipetting cycle. To prevent
cross contamination use a new tip whenever a different kind of sample is to be aspirated.
The pipette tip may be used several times, rinse the tip
immediately after use. A dirty tip may cause cross contamination or wrong sample volumes may be transferred.
