1. Safety Instructions
• The product is intended for private, non-commercial
use only.
• Keep the product out of reach of young children. Accidental
swallowing can lead to choking. Consult adoctor
immediately if you suspect that the product has been
swallowed.
• Protect the product from dirt, moistureand overheating, and
only use it in adry environment.
• Do not use the product in the immediate vicinity of heaters
or other heat sources or in direct sunlight.
• Do not drop the product and do not expose it to any major
shocks.
• Do not attempt to service or repair the product yourself.
Leave any and all service work to qualied experts.
• Do not open the device or continue to operate it if it
becomes damaged.
• Dispose of packaging material immediately according to
locally applicable regulations.
• Do not modify the product in any way.Doing so voids the
warranty.
Note
• Foramaximum service life, protect the ngerprint sensor
from dirt and scratches.
• Under no circumstance does Hama GmbH &CoKG
accept liability for loss of data stored on data storage
media.
• To avoid unintentional data loss, you should regularly
make backup copies to morethan one data medium.
• If you use the product over avery long period of time, it
is possible that data can no longer be read, written or
deleted.
Warning
• The Hama USB storage devices must never be
disconnected from the computer or notebook while data
is being transferred! Your data could be lost.
2. Disconnecting
Safely remove the device by carrying out the required
procedurefor your particular operating system.
If you do not do this, data may be lost!
3. System Requirements
• USB Type A:
Encryption method: 256-bit AES
Windows 10/8/7/Vista/XP
Note –Mac
• Fingerprint recognition and the unlocking of the secure
partition areonly possible if an administrator has been
registered under Windows and asecurepartition has
been set up (Point 6, et seqq.).
• The administration softwaredoes not run under MacOS.
4. Using the ProtectionKey and the administration
software
• Youcan administer up to six ngerprints with the
ProtectionKey.Atleast one administrator ngerprint must
have been registered.
• Plug the Hama ProtectionKey into an unused USB
connection on your computer/notebook.
• The ProtectionKey is automatically recognised and the
associated CD drive (on which the softwarecan be found) is
automatically shown.
• Run the softwarebydouble-clicking the ProtectionKey
drive symbol. (If you areusing the ProtectionKey for the
rst time, continue to Point 6.1 ‘Register administrator and
password’.)
• Place aregistered nger with light and even pressureonto
the ngerprint sensor.The status LED ashes blue during
authentication.
• Once the ngerprint has been successfully authenticated,
access to the securepartition on the ProtectionKey is
enabled.
• To create or administer auser,start the ProtectionKey’s
administration softwarebyclicking the Hama ngerprint
icon. (This is not necessary to gain access to the secure
partition.)

Note
• The securepartition is automatically locked if no data is
written or read for morethan 15 minutes. This ensures
that your personal data is well protected.
4.1 Register administrator and password
An administrator account must have been registered before
you as the administrator can create further accounts and
register ngerprints for additional users.
Click the ‘Next’
button to register
an administrator.
Enter the password
twice and click
‘Next’ to go to the
next step.
Note
• The ngerprint used for the administrator account should
not be used for the user accounts.

4.2 Registering the fingerprint for the administrator
Enter the name of
the administrator in
this eld and click
‘Next’ to go to the
next step.
Scan your
ngerprint as
required.
The administrator
account is now
created.
5. Administering administrator and user accounts
This chapter explains how you can add, change, delete and
edit accounts.
Click heretoadd
auser
Click heretoedit
auser.
Click heretodelete
aselected user.
If you click
‘Reenter’, you
can repeat the
complete process.

By enabling this
button, you can
specify whether a
user should have
administrator
permissions.
Warning
Never delete your administrator account and the
ngerprints registered for it. Otherwise you will no longer
have access to the data on your securepartition!
6. Partitionierung des ProtectionKey
Note
The Hama ProtectionKey is formatted during the partition
process (including securedrive). Back up all data
beforehand!
• Register with your administrator ngerprint or password
to open the Hama ProtectionKey.When authentication
has nished, press ‘Partition’.
Click ‘Partition’.
Click ‘OK’ to dene
the partitioning.
