Safety Instructions

Observe the following precautions to
avoid electric shock or damage to the
unit.

· Do not wet the unit or use the unit with wet
hands.

· Do not subject the unit to physical shock. Do not
strike the pad against any object or press the
pad against any object with excessive force.

· Disconnect the power plug when the unit is not
used for long periods of time.

CAUTION

· Do not modify or disassemble the unit.

· Wearing thick socks with charge-protection
shoes may affect the test results. Follow the
instructions provided with the charge-protection
shoes and use them properly when using the
tester.

· The mounting plate is also used with the optional
stand. Store it in a safe place.

Operation

Preparation

1. The Hakko 441 tester unit can be used as a tabletop
unit or it can be mounted to the wall or the optional
stand.

* When mounting to the wall,

first attach the mounting
plate to the wall using the
wood screws and pan head
screws (included) as shown
in the figure. Then mount
the tester unit securely with
the mounting knobs.

2. Insert the pin jack of the test plate cord assembly into
the input receptacle on the lower left-hand side of the
tester unit.

3. Plug the power plug into a 100V AC outlet. (Disconnect
the power plug when the unit will not be used for a long
period of time.)

Measurement

4. While wearing charge-protection shoes, stand on the
test plate and press the pad on the tester unit lightly
with three fingers. The electrical resistance between
the charge-protection shoes (through your body) is
measured and judgement is provided as indicated
below.

a. When the green lamp (GOOD) lights and the buzzer

sounders, the charge-protection shoes are
functioning properly.

The resistance range indicator lamps can also be used
to check the resistance characteristic of the charge­protection shoes when the judgement is GOOD. The
LED lamps represent the following ranges.

Ranges I to III are not precise values (±10%) and are intended to serve only as

Investigate the cause of the problem and take the
proper steps to correct it. Change your charge­protection shoes if necessary.

Possible causes:

Y our charge-protection shoes are worn.
A piece of metal is imbedded in the sole of one of your
shoes.

c. A judgement of HIGH indicates that the resistance

value was below 1 × 10

Investigate the cause of the problem and take the
proper steps to correct it. Change your charge­protection shoes if necessary.

Possible causes:

Y ou are wearing thick socks.
Y our charge-protection shoes are defective, dirty , etc.
