8985FS SD/HD Video Frame Synchronizer 47

Key Features

HD/SD frame synchronizer

Operates in frame sync and delay modes with user-programmable delay, plus a framing delay from 300 pixels up to eight frames minus 5 lines in pixel-sized steps

Supports genlock submodule to manage reference timing (required for frame sync operation)

Genlock submodule supports Tri-level sync and NTSC/PAL color black and loop-through

Split screen mode for in/out comparison

Accepts an optional fiber transmitter, fiber receiver, or fiber transceiver SFP device providing optical HD-SDI and SD-SDI I/O

The 8985FS is a compact, high-performance, fiber-ready SD/HD frame synchronizer module with low hysteresis, a dual-redundant reference capability, and a perfect-picture mode. This module is therefore suited to production and playout applications where high reliability is required.

The 8900GEN-SM submodule provides a dual-redundant reference to ensure continuous glitch-free operation even when the incoming reference signal fails. Perfect-picture mode prevents damaged frames and picture stutter from appearing when the incoming feed fails.

Fiber-ready technology allows this module to accept one of three types of SFP fiber optic submodules. One of these can be installed in the fiber optic rear cage connector to provide two fiber inputs (Dual Receiver), two fiber outputs (Dual Transmitter), or one fiber input/ one fiber output (Transceiver).

The 8900NET (Net Card) module is required for Web browser or Newton control panel configuration. In addition, NetConfig

and NetCentral can be used for remote configuration and SNMP signal health monitoring.

Refer to the rear module pinout and block diagram on the next page.

Applications

With asynchronous sources where SD-SDI and HD-SDI line or frame synchronization is required

With synchronous sources to compensate for cable or processing delays

When a video signal needs timing adjustment to match other sources

With live signals where minimum delay is important

User-adjustable range: 300 pixels to 1 frame minus 5 lines

Synchronizing mode = in minimum delay mode (synchronous input): Nominal: 300 pixels (±1 pixel) User-adjustable range: 300 pixels to 1 frame minus 5 lines

Additional adjustable delay: 0 to 6 additional frames

Synchronizing

Genlock (reference signal):

The 8900GEN-SM submodule is required for genlocking GeckoFlex modules with frame sync.

The 8900GEN-SM submodule attaches to the front module and provides genlock reference support to:

Host synchronizer module

Host synchronizer module and one of two frame reference buses

Other GeckoFlex modules via the frame reference bus

A second submodule attached to another GeckoFlex module can provide redundant frame reference or a different signal format. (NOTE: at least one module per frame must have a genlock submodule installed to provide reference bus support).

Reference signal to timing pulse edge: Adjustable from 0 to 1 frame in 1 SD pixel steps.

Control And Monitoring

SNMP: Yes

Web page configuration: Yes Local configuration: No Newton support: Yes NetConfig support: Yes NetCentral support: Yes

Ordering Information

This module can be mounted in a GeckoFlex frame but not in other 8900 series frames, including Gecko-A or Gecko-V frames. As this module has no card-edge controls, an 8900NET (Net Card) Network Interface module is required to configure the module.
