years of trouble-free service. Before use please ensure that you have read all of the following
instructions.
About This User Guide
This user guide contains all the information you need to know about how to setup, watch and record
available 'Freeview' channels using your PVR.
What is Freeview?
It is the new, free digital service currently providing up to 30 free digital TV channels, over 20 digital radio
stations plus a whole new world of interactive services. It's broadcast from transmitters and received via
a rooftop aerial.
It works like traditional TV, but because the signals are Digital you need a set top box to convert them.
This means more channels can be transmitted with extra features such as interactivity and widescreen
pictures.

Parental settings
The parental settings can be accessed from the configuration menu.
Maturity lock:Off, Age 4, ... , Age 18, Parental approval (FRA), Universal viewing (FRA), X-rated (EST)
Setting the maturity lock to any setting besides Off will prevent the viewing of any
programme which matches or is higher than the selected age or programme rating.
Switching to such a programme will only be possible after entering the PIN code. Please
note that this maturity lock depends on the information that is broadcast. If no age or rating is
broadcast the unit will display all channels, it is therefore recommended that to completely
protect the box that channels are locked using the channel list (please see channel list
section for details). This is normal and not a fault with the unit.
Menu lock:Disabled, Installation, Main Menu
Entering the device PIN is necessary to access the installation part of the menu, or the entire
main menu, depending on the setting.
Set Lock Key: Use this setting to change the device PIN. Enter a four digit PIN and confirm by repeating it
in the second field. The current PIN may have to be entered first in order to access this
setting. The default setting for the PIN code is 0000.

Receiver upgrade
The PVR comes with a special feature that allows the PVR to be updated using software that is broadcast
over the air and received via the aerial (when the software is available).
1. Open the main menu by pressing the menu key.
2. Select Settings using the up/down cursor keys and press OK.
3. In the Settings menu select configuration using the up/down cursor keys and press OK.

Installation
The installation menu provides two different channel searches as well as the First Time Installation feature.
In order to access it, press the menu key then select settings using the up/down cursor keys and press OK.
From the submenu select Installation using the up/down cursor keys and press OK.
For a description of the First Time Installation process see page 11.Please note that performing a First Time
Installation will delete your channel list and reset every menu setting to its factory default.
Automatic search
We recommend using the automatic search if several channels in your channel list are no longer being
broadcast or if more than one or two new channels have become available. The automatic search will create
a new channel list out of all available channels and replace the previous channel list. As it searches every
available channel, the process may take several minutes to complete.
The progress bar at the bottom shows how much of the search has already been completed. Press the menu
button to cancel the search for new channels.

Manual search
The manual search is quicker as the channel number for the multiplex has to be specified and therefore the
PVR only has to tune into the one channel to find stations. However the channel numbers must be know
before attempting this method and therefore this is only designed for more advanced users.
Use the number keys to enter a channel number and press OK to start the search. The manual search can
also be aborted by pressing the menu key. On this page there are also signal guides that can be used to tell
how good the reception is for the selected channel. The signal level will be show how strong the reception is
for the selected channel number. The signal quality will show how good the reception of the digital signal is.
