AUTOMATICDEGAUSSING
Allcolourtelevisionreceiversaresensitivetomagneticinfluences,usuallycausedbyeither movingthereceiverfromoneplacetoanotherorusingcertainelectricalappiiancesnearthe receiver.Thisresidualmagnetismasitiscalled,sometimescausesdistortionwhichgivesriseto "blotchy"areasofcolourinthepicture.Toavoidtheseeffectsthereceiverincorporatesan automaticdegaussingcircuitwhichoperatesforashortwhileimmediatelyeachtimethereceiver isswitchedonusingthemainsswitch.Thiscircuitremovesanyresidualmagnetisminthemetal partsofthepicturetubeandthereforeensuresthateachtimethereceiverisswitched"ON" usingtheMainsswitch,thepurityofthecoloursdisplayedonthescreenremaintrueandlifeiike. Ifthesetismovedorfacedinadifferentdirection,themainsswitchmustbeswitchedoffatleast 10minutesinorderthattheautomaticdegaussingcircuitoperatesproperly.
