About Craig Anderton's Signature Series Hex Patches
for Gibson's Dark Fire Guitar
This collection of Signature Series Hex patches is designed specifically for Dark Fire's Hex
capabilities, where each string can generate its own output.
These patches require the use of the RIP interface hooked up to a computer, and are
intended for rhythm guitar parts, which is where Hex technology excels. However, some of
them also work well for leads—experiment!
Step 1: Set Dark Fire and the RIP to Hex Mode
Before playing these patches, make sure Dark Fire is in Hex mode. To do this:
1. Open up the RIP console.
2. Click on the Settings tab.
3. Turn on Dark Fire by pulling up on the MCK, and strum so that the guitar is in tune.
4. On the Console settings page, click on the Hex Mode button. You may need to click
on it more than once for this setting to “stick.” If Dark Fire does not go into Hex
mode via this method, rotate the MCK to the | symbol and press momentarily on
the MCK's Display Matrix. If the settings page does not show Hex Mode, press the
MCK momentarily again.
If Dark Fire does not go into Hex Mode, check the following:
● Dark Fire's battery is charged.
● Dark Fire connects to the RIP through a TRS (stereo) cable.
● The MCK is pulled out.

Step 2: Open Ableton Live Lite 7 Gibson Studio Edition
The patches consist of Ableton Live Set files, which have a .ALS suffix. Double-clicking on
any of these files should open up Ableton Live Lite 7 to a view similar to the one shown
below. If you need additional information on using Ableton Live, such as how to interface
with the RIP, please refer to the Quick Start manuals at:

To hear all available strings, they all must have their Track Activator buttons on (i.e., the
boxes with the track number should be yellow; see the buttons circled in blue) and be in
Record mode (see the buttons circled in red). To put multiple tracks into record mode,
ctrl-click on the Record buttons.
Enjoy the patches!
