IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE
The California Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act requires the Governor of California to publish a list of substances known to the state to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm and requires businesses to warn customers of potential exposure to such substances.
Gas appliances can cause minor exposure to four of these substances, namely benzene, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde and soot, caused primarily by the incomplete combustion of natural gas or LP fuels. Properly adjusted burners, indicated by a bluish rather than a yellow flame, will minimize incomplete combustion. Exposure to these substances can be
by
minimized further
venting with an open window
or using a ventilation fan or hood.
When You Get Your Cooktop
When you get your cooktop, have the installer show you the location of the gas shutoff valve and how to shut it off if necessary.
Have your cooktop installed and properly
grounded by a qualified installer,
with the Installation Instructions. Any adjustment and service should by performed only by qualified gas range installers or service technicians.
Plug your cooktop into a 120-volt grounded
outlet only.
Do not remove the round grounding prong from the plug. If in doubt about the grounding of the home electrical system, it is your personal responsibility and obligation to have an ungrounded outlet replaced with a grounded three-prong outlet in accordance with the National Electrical Code. Do not use an extension cord with this appliance.
Be sure all packing materials are removed from
the cooktop
before operating it, to prevent fire or
smoke damage should the packing material ignite.
Be sure your cooktop is correctly adjusted by a
qualified service technician or installer. This counter unit, as shipped from the factory, can only be operated with natural gas. Do not try to operate it with LP (bottled) gas unless you follow the Installation Instructions packed with your cooktop. See LP Gas Adjustments.

Keep all plastics away from top burners.
To avoid the possibility of a burn, always be

Watch foods being fried at HI flame setting.
Foods for frying should be as dry as possible.
Frost on frozen foods or moisture on fresh
foods can cause hot fat to bubble up and over
sides of pan.
If cooktop is located near a window,
do not use long curtains which could blow over the top burners and create a fire hazard.
If you smell gas,
turn off the gas to the cooktop and call a qualified service technician. Never use an open flame to locate a leak.
Don’t

aluminum foil to line burner bowls.
Misuse could result in a fire hazard or damage to the cooktop.
Do not cover or block the area around the
cooktop knobs.
This area must be kept clear for
proper ventilation and burner performance.

USING YOUR COOKTOP
Automatic Ignition
Your surface burners are lighted by electric ignition, eliminating the need
for
standing pilot lights with constantly burning flames.
In case of a power outage, you can light the burners with a match. Hold a lighted match to the burner, then turn the knob to the LITE position. To
avoid burning you hand,
Surface burners in use when a~ electrical power failure occurs will continue
to operate normally.
To Light a Burner
use extreme caution when lighting burners this way.
Push the control knob in and turn it counterclockwise to LITE. You will hear a “ticking” noise—the sound
of
the electric spark
igniting the burner.
After the burner ignites, turn the knob to adjust the
flame
size. To turn the burner off, turn the knob clockwise as far as it will
go,
to the OFF position.

The left front and right rear burners are best for
smaller pans and cooking operations requiring carefully controlled simmering conditions. The right front and rear left burners are the high power burners for larger pans and fast boiling operations.
Do not operate the burner for an extended period of
time without cookware on the grate. The finish on the grate may chip without cookware to absorb the heat.
Check to be sure the burner you turn on is the one
you want to use.
Be sure the burners and grates are cool before you
place your hand, a pot holder, cleaning cloths or other materials on them.
How to Select Flame Size
Watch the flame, not the knob, as you reduce heat. The flame size on a gas burner should match the cookware you are using.
FOR SAFE HANDLING OF COOKWARE, NEVER LET THE FLAME EXTEND UP THE SIDES OF THE COOKWARE. Any flame larger than the bottom of the cookware is wasted heat and only serves to heat the handle.
Cookware
Aluminum:
because it heats quickly and evenly. Most foods brown evenly in an aluminum skillet. Use saucepans with tight-fitting lids when cooking with minimum amounts
Cast Iron: [f heated slowly, most skillets will give
satisfactory results. Enamelware: Under some conditions, the enamel of
some cookware may melt. Follow cookware manufacturer’s recommendations for cooking methods.
Glass: There are two types of glass cookware—those for oven use only and those for surface cooking (saucepans, coffee and teapots). Glass conducts heat
very slowly.
Medium-weight cookware is recommended

Wok Cooking

retail store.
~
Heatproof Glass Ceramic: Can be used for either surface or oven cooking. It conducts heat very slowly and cools very slowly. Check cookware manufacturer’s directions to be sure it can be used on gas
Stainless Steel: This metal alone has poor heating properties, and is usually combined with copper,
aluminum or other metals for improved heat
distribution. Combination metal skillets generally
work satisfactorily if used at medium heat as the manufacturer recommends.

CARE AND CLEANING
Proper care and cleaning are important so your cooktop will give you efficient and satisfactory service. Follow these directions carefully in caring for it.
Before cleaning any part of your cooktop, be sure all burners are off and DISCONNECT ELECTRIC POWER TO THE COOKTOP at the fuse box or circuit breaker panel, or pull the cooktop power plug, located beneath the cooktop and inside the cabinets.

Burner Bowl
Turn all controls off before removing burner parts and drip pans.
The burner grates, burner tops and trim rings can be lifted off, making them easy to clean. Removing them gives you access to the burner bodies and burner bowls. (To avoid snagging cloth on spark igniters, leave burner tops in place when cleaning burner bowls.) There are two locating pins on the burner grates that fit into an indentation at the bottom of the bowls. The pin allows the grate to sit level in one direction only. Do not remove the pin. Do not remove burner bowls from glass top units. Wash burner parts with all-purpose non-abrasive cleaner and warm water. Soak stubborn soil. Dry them with a don’t reassemble them wet.

Burner Grates
Porcelain enamel burner grates should be washed often. Wash them in hot, soapy water and rinse with clean water. Dry the grates with a cloth—don’t put them back on the cooktop wet. When replacing the grates, be sure they’re positioned securely over the burners. To get rid of burned-on food, place the grates in a covered container or plastic bag. Add and let them soak for 30 minutes. Wash, rinse well, and dry. Or you can use an abrasive cleaner for stubborn stains. Although they’re durable, the grates will gradually lose their shine, regardless of the best care you can give them. This is due to their continual exposure to high temperatures. Do not operate a burner for an extended period of time without cookware on the grate. The finish on the grate may chip without cookware to absorb the heat.
