GHB® LUMINAIRE

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The complete luminaire designated _____ (identify) shall be a
GE GHB® luminaire, ordering number (specify GH5, plus ordering number logic from catalog) or approved equal, to operate
one _____ (specify [250 or 400] watt high pressure sodium
[HPS], [175, 250 or 400] watt metal halide, [175, 250, 320, 350
or 400] watt pulse start metal halide or 400 watt mercury) lamp
from a nominal _____ (specify 120, 208, 220, 240, 277, 347
or 480) volt 60 Hz or (220, 230, 240 or 380) volt 50 Hz power
source. The luminaire shall include a completely prewired integral ballast and an optical assembly with _____ (specify 1.0,
1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, 2.0 or 2.3 according to photometric selection table)IES Spacing Criterion (SC). The luminaire
shall be suitable for continuous service indoors and in damp
locations in a maximum ambient temperature of 55°C. The
luminaire shall be UL Listed SUITABLE FOR DAMP LOCATIONS
and C-UL (Canadian) Listed for Indoor Locations. Standard
construction is IP22.
MECHANICAL CONSTRUCTION
For ease of installation and to facilitate maintenance and replacement, the luminaire shall be supplied as components —
ballast and optical.
The ballast housing and optical assembly shall be provided
with easy-to-read moisture-proof nameplates that can be read
without disturbing the installed luminaire. All ballasts and optical assemblies shall include provision for optional field mounting of safety chains.
The ballast housing, including threaded mounting plate, shall
be made of die-cast aluminum. The ballast housing shall have
an electrocoat gray paint finish.
A heavy duty mogul base socket with superior lamp gripping
shall be mounted to the ballast housing. The socket shall have
the ability to handle the higher pulse ratings of newer HID systems. The reflector shall have a five-position mounting bracket
field adjustable for choice of light distributions without parts
modification and with no more than a screwdriver for a tool.
Exclusionary Mogul Base socket, (EX39), option is available,
which will only accept lamps with EX39 base for use in Open
Fixtures.
To facilitate mounting, the luminaire shall have separate lightweight mounting of components that can be easily removed
from the ballast housing and assembled to the structural or
mounting hardware prior to mounting the remainder of the
luminaire. The mounting device must provide a positive vibration-resistant locking means including a set screw.
The Ballast housing shall incorporate GELS EZ Connect™
plug-in wiring harness that provides for easier wiring
installation and quick replacement.
EZ Connect™ plug-in wiring harness shall enable the use of
*GELS Critique™ plug-in luminaire diagnostic test device.
BALLAST OPERATION
The luminaire shall contain a standard or System 3TM Bi-Level
Control Autoreg type ballast* in full compliance with lamp-ballast specifications available to the fixture manufacturer from
the lamp manufacturers at the time of fixture manufacture.
The ballast shall reliably start and operate the lamp in ambient
temperatures down to -20
-40°F for HPS.
The luminaire and ballast shall be from the same manufacturer.

OPTICAL ASSEMBLY
Reflector shall be open, ventilated type. An optional door-glass
kit is available. There shall be an Alzak✝ finish on aluminum
reflector surfaces. Do not use open optical with lamps specified
for use in enclosed fixtures only.
