UK grocer expects to experience 59% energy savings with energy-efficient lighting solutions
Sainsbury’s first all-LED supermarket highlights a shopping list of benefits
THE SITUATION
Food retailer Sainsbury’s operates more than 1,000 stores across the
UK. The carbon step change program forms part of Sainsbury’s 20x20
Sustainability Plan, an industry-leading initiative that is the cornerstone
of its business strategy and sets out 20 targets to be achieved by 2020.
THE SOLUTION
Sainsbury’s partnered with GE Lighting to install the latest LED
energy-eicient lighting solutions. The new 40,000-square-foot Sainsbury’s
store in Leek, Staffordshire, is the first supermarket installation to utilize
GE’s Lumination
lighting panel suspending from the ceiling.
“ Finding a lighting solution that won’t compromise our customers’
shopping experience, helps reduce our environmental impact and
provides operating cost savings is key to reaching our carbon
reduction target.”
- Paul Crewe, Sainsbury’s Head of Sustainability
Sainsbury’s worked with GE Lighting to create a scheme that utilizes
multiple LED lighting solutions to maximize energy savings, lower carbon
emissions and extend maintenance cycles while enhancing the shopping
experience for Sainsbury’s customers.
The contemporary design of the fixtures added to the aesthetic ideals
of the store; and the uniform light improved the interior environment,
creating a better shopping experience.
