IMPORTANT INFORMATION

NOTICE: The Industry Canada label identifies certified equipment. This certification means that the equipment meets certain telecommunications network protective, operational and safety requirements. The Industry Canada does not guarantee the equipment will operate to the user’s satisfaction.

Before installing this equipment, users should ensure that it is permissible to be connected to the facilities of the local telecommunications company. The equipment must also be installed using an acceptable method of connection. The customer should be aware that compliance with the above conditions may not prevent degradation of service in some situations.

Repairs to certified equipment should be made by an authorized Canadian maintenance facility designated by the supplier. Any repairs or alterations made by the user to this equipment, or equipment malfunctions, may give the telecommunications company cause to request the user to disconnect the equipment.

Users should ensure for their own protection that the electrical ground connections of the power utility, telephone lines and internal metallic water pipe systems, if present, are connected together. This precaution may be particularly important in rural areas.

CAUTION: Users should not attempt to make such connections themselves, but should contact the appropriate electric inspection authority, or electrician, as appropriate.

NOTES: This equipment may not be used on coin service provided by the telephone company.

Party lines are subject to telephone company tariffs and, therefore, you may not be able to use your own telephone equipment if you are on a party line. Check with your local telephone company.

INTERFERENCE INFORMATION

If this equipment does cause interference to radio or television reception (which you can determine by turning the equipment off and on), try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures.

• Reorient the receiving antenna (that is, the antenna for radio or television that is “receiving” the interference.)

• Change the position of the computer with respect to the radio or television equipment that is receiving interference.

• Move the Telephone Answering System away from the equipment that is receiving interference.

• Plug the Telephone Answering System into a different wall outlet so that the Telephone Answering System and the equipment receiving interference are on different branch circuits.

If these measures do not eliminate the interference, please consult your dealer or an experienced radio/television technician for additional suggestions.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

PARTS CHECKLIST

Make sure your package includes the following items:

MODULAR JACK REQUIREMENTS

You need an RJ11 (CA11A) type modular jack, which is the most common type of phone jack and might look like the one pictured here. If you don’t have a modular jack, call your local phone company to find out how to get one installed.

INSTALLING THE BATTERY

In the event of a power loss, a 9-volt battery (not included) enables the answerer to retain greetings and messages stored in memory. To install the battery:

1. Remove the battery compartment door on the bottom of the unit by loosening the screw with a Phillips screwdriver. Lift the door.

2. Connect a fresh 9-volt alkaline battery (not included). The large and small contacts on the battery clip and the battery will interlock. Once connected, place the battery inside the battery compartment.

3. Replace the battery compartment door and tighten the screw.

NOTE: If the battery is low or not installed, the unit announces “Low Battery” at the end of message playback.

INSTALLATION

3. Connect the small end of the power supply into the POWER 9V AC jack on the back of the answerer. Plug the other end into an AC power outlet. The unit beeps 3 times and is ready for setup or to answer calls with the default greeting and settings.

1. Plug the telephone line cord into a modular wall jack.

2. Connect the telephone line cord from your telephone into the jack on the back of the answerer marked PHONE. (You don’t have to connect your telephone in order for the answerer to record incoming messages.)

INSTALLATION INFORMATION

• Never install telephone wiring during a lightning storm.

• Never touch uninsulated telephone wires or terminals, unless the telephone line has been disconnected at the network interface.

• Use caution when installing or modifying telephone lines.

CAUTION: Only use the Thomson 5-2434A (white)/5-2418A (black) power supply that was packed with this unit. Using other power supplies may damage the unit.

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS FOR MOVING THE ANSWERER:

To move the answerer to a different location in the house, follow these instructions:

1. Disconnect the phone line or any phones you may have connected to the unit.

2. Install a battery, if you have not already done so. This will ensure that your messages are not lost. See “Installing the Battery”.

3. Go to the electrical outlet and unplug the power supply. DO NOT UNPLUG THE POWER JACK CONNECTED TO THE UNIT. If you do, all memory will be erased.

4. Move the unit and phone line to the desired location.

5. Plug in the power supply into an electrical outlet.

6. The MESSAGES indicator shows that the messages have not been erased.

7. Connect all necessary phone lines.

NOTE: You can direct callers to leave messages in a specific mailbox by having them press the desired mailbox (1-4) after the greeting plays. If no mailbox is selected, the incoming messages automatically go into mailbox 1.

NOTE: The greeting must be 2 seconds or longer to be valid.

SETUP

RECORDING THE GREETING

Before using your new answerer, you should record a greeting (the announcement callers hear when your answering system answers a call). Two greetings can be recorded. If you don't record a greeting, callers hear a default greeting which says, "After tone, record message."

You can record two types of greetings, one to use only one mailbox, or one to direct callers to leave messages in specific mailboxes. This is especially useful for active families or small businesses.

When recording the greeting, you should be about 6 inches from the unit. This ensures the best recording quality. Eliminate as much background noise as possible.

Both types of greetings are recorded by the following:

1. Prepare your greeting.

Sample Single Mailbox Greeting: Hi, this is (use your name here). I can’t answer the phone right now, so please leave your name, number, and a brief message after the tone, and I’ll get back to you. Thanks for calling.

Sample Multi-Mailbox Greeting: Hi, this is (use your name here). We can’t answer the phone right now, so please press 1 to direct your message to (name1), press 2 to direct your message to (name2), press 3 to to direct your message to (name3), press 4 to direct your message to (name4). Leave your name, number, and a brief message after the tone, and we’ll get back to you. Thanks for calling.

4. Release GREETING A or B when you finish.

REVIEWING THE GREETING

To review the greeting, press and release GREETING A or B.

ERASING THE GREETING

There are two ways to erase your greeting.

1. To erase your greeting while listening to it, press and hold ERASE until the unit announces, “Greeting Erased”. Then record your new greeting.

2. To re-record your greeting from any point, press and hold GREETING A or B. After the tone, say your greeting. Release GREETING A or B when you finish.

RETURNING TO THE DEFAULT GREETING

To return to the answerer's default greeting after you've recorded one, press GREETING A or B for 3 seconds. Continue holding until after the unit beeps. You can also press and hold ERASE when the greeting is playing.

REVIEWING THE SETTINGS

This function allows you to review the current time/day, number of rings before the unit answers a call, incoming message length, and the security code. Press and release the SET button to review the current settings. The unit announces the current setting.

NOTE: To exit review, press and release STOP.

CHANGING THE SETTINGS

Press and hold the SET button to enter the change mode. The unit announces the current time and day. To change, press NEXT or PREVIOUS. To set and go on to the next item, press SET.

NOTE: To scroll from one setting to the next, press and release SET. To exit the change list, press STOP.

SETTING THE TIME

For each message received, a time/day stamp is added at the end of the message.

TO SET THE HOUR

1. Press and release NEXT or PREVIOUS until the unit announces and displays the correct hour.

2. Once the hour is set, press SET to enter the minutes menu.

TO SET THE MINUTES

1. Press and release NEXT or PREVIOUS until the unit announces and displays the correct minutes.

2. Once the minutes are set, press SET to enter the day menu.

TO SET THE DAY

1. Press and release NEXT or PREVIOUS until the unit announces and displays the correct day.

2. Once the day is set, press SET. The unit announces the time/day, then enters the rings to answer menu.

NOTE: The days of the week show in the display as numbers. For example, “Sunday” shows as 0.

SETTING THE RINGS TO ANSWER

This feature is used to set the unit to answer a call after a specific number of rings.

The unit announces the rings to answer. To change, press NEXT or PREVIOUS. To set and go on to the next item, press SET.

1. Press and release NEXT or PREVIOUS until the unit announces and displays the correct number of rings for the answerer to pick up.

2. Once the rings to answer is set, press SET. The unit announces the rings to answer, then enters the incoming message length menu.

TOLL SAVER

The toll saver is the final setting in the Rings to Answer menu. This feature allows you to know if you have new messages when calling the machine from a remote phone. If you have new messages, the unit will ring twice before answering. If you don’t, it will ring four times. This allows you to hang up before the machine answers so that you don’t have to pay toll charges.

NOTE: The message counter displays 00 for toll saver.

SETTING THE INCOMING MESSAGE LENGTH

The message length is the length of time (in minutes) the caller has to leave a message.

The unit announces and displays the current message length. To change, press NEXT or PREVIOUS. To set and go on to the next item, press SET.

1. Press and release NEXT or PREVIOUS until the unit announces and displays the correct incoming message length.

2. Once the length is set, press SET. The unit announces the message length, then enters the security code menu.

SETTING THE SECURITY CODE

The security code is a programmable 4-digit code which can be used to access remote functions.

IMPORTANT: The first digit is factory set at zero and cannot be changed.

The unit announces the current security code. To change, press NEXT or PREVIOUS. To set and exit press SET.

1. Press and release NEXT or PREVIOUS to choose the second digit (the first digit is not programmable). The unit announces all 4 digits, but only the selected digit will change.

2. Once you have the desired second digit, press SET to save it and move on to the third digit.

3. Press and release NEXT or PREVIOUS to choose the third digit. Only the third digit will change.

4. Once you have the desired third digit, press SET to save it and move on to the fourth digit.

5. Press and release NEXT or PREVIOUS to choose the fourth digit. Only the fourth digit will change.

6. Once you have the desired fourth digit, press SET to save it. The answerer repeats all the settings.

NOTE: To exit any menu, press and release STOP. Also, setup will cancel if no buttons have been pushed within 30 seconds.

IMPORTANT: The setup settings will not be erased even after a power outage.

ADJUSTING THE VOLUME

Use the VOLUME + and - buttons to increase the volume up and down. The unit beeps when it is not announcing a setting or playing a message. It also beeps 3 times when the maximum or minimum volume is reached.

ANSWERER OPERATION

GREETING INDICATORS

The GREETING indicators let you know what greeting will be used to answer a call.

GREETING A indicator is on — Greeting A will be used. GREETING B indicator is on — Greeting B will be used.

ANSWER ON/OFF INDICATOR

The ANSWER ON/OFF indicator lets you know whether your answerer is on or off. When the answerer is off, it answers calls after 10 rings but doesn’t play the greeting. The answerer doesn’t take messages when it is off.

Indicator is on — Answerer is on and will answer calls according to the Rings to Answer

setting.

Indicator is off — Answerer is off, but you might still have messages.

NOTE: You can play messages, review/change settings, and review/change the greeting even if the answerer is off.

MESSAGES COUNTER

The MESSAGES counter gives you a numeric display of how many messages you have.

• MESSAGES counter has a number displayed (not flashing) –– No new messages. Shows total of old

messages.

• MESSAGES counter has a flashing number displayed –– There are new messages. Shows total of

new and old messages.

• MESSAGES counter has bars (--) –– Unit is off.

• MESSAGES counter has an “F” flashing on the

display –– Memory is full.

NOTE: While the messages are playing, the MESSAGES counter will display the messages in the order they were received.

MAILBOX INDICATORS

The mailbox indicators tell you if you have any messages in each individual mailbox and if they are new or old.

• Mailbox indicator is on –– There are no new messages, but there are old ones.

• Mailbox indicator is off –– There are either no messages or the answerer is turned off.

• Mailbox indicator is flashing –– There are new messages.

NOTE: An old message is one that has been listened to completely, including the time/day stamp. A new

message is one that HAS NOT been listened to completely. Stopping a message before listening to the time/day stamp makes the message remain as new.

PLAYING MESSAGES

You can play the messages in each individual mailbox separately.

• To play messages, press and release the desired mailbox button.

WHILE PLAYING MESSAGES

• To stop playback, press and release STOP.

• To restart the message that is playing, press and hold

PREVIOUS.

• To listen to a previous message, press and release PREVIOUS.

• To skip to the next message, press and release NEXT.

• To fast forward within a message, press and hold

NEXT.

• To erase a message while it is playing, press and release the ERASE button. The answerer announces, “Message Erased” to confirm the message has been erased.

TIP: You can stop the unit from erasing a message you just tried to erase by pressing PREVIOUS before the unit says,“End of Messages”.

NOTE: When messages are played, the new messages are played first, followed by the old messages in the order they were received. When all messages are old, the messages play back in the order they were received.

MESSAGE MOVE

The Message Move feature allows you to easily move messages from one mailbox to another.

1. Press and release the desired mailbox where the message you want to move is located.

2. Press and release NEXT or PREVIOUS until the desired message to move is playing.

3. Press and release the mailbox button where you want the message to move. The unit announces the message has been moved.

4. Release the mailbox button. The moved message is now a “new” message in that mailbox.

MESSAGE SCAN

Message Scan allows you to listen to the first 5 seconds of each message within a mailbox.

1. Press and release SCAN. The unit shows

asks you to select a mailbox.

2. Press the desired mailbox button. The unit plays back the first 5 seconds of each message in the mailbox. When finished, it automatically exits Scan mode.

WHILE SCANNING MESSAGES

• To stop playback, press and release STOP.

• To hear the complete message, press and release

the mailbox button where the message is located before the unit goes on to the next message.

• To restart the message, press and hold PREVIOUS.

• To skip to the next message, press and release

NEXT.

• To erase the message, press and hold ERASE until the unit announces it has been erased.

• To move the message to another mailbox, press and release the desired mailbox where you want to move the message.

NOTE: New messages must be heard completely, including the time/day stamp, before they can be erased. The unit will announce you have no messages to erase, if not.

ERASING ALL MESSAGES IN A MAILBOX

1. When the answerer isn’t playing or recording messages, press and hold ERASE. The answerer will ask you to select a mailbox.

2. Press and release the mailbox button you want to erase. The answerer announces the messages have been erased.

TIP: You can stop the unit from erasing all the messages in a mailbox by pressing the button for the mailbox you just tried to erase. You must do this before attempting any other function.

NOTE: If there are unheard messages in a mailbox, they will not be erased by Erase All. If there are only new messages in a mailbox, the unit will announce “Zero messages erased”.

LEAVING A MEMO

This feature allows you to leave a memo for someone in a specific mailbox.

1. Press and release the MEMO/ TWO WAY button. The unit shows Lc on the display and asks you to select a mailbox.

2. Press and hold the desired mailbox button. Record after the tone.

3. Release the mailbox button when you finish. The unit treats the memo as a message, as the MESSAGES counter and mailbox indicator show.

NOTE: The length of time for recording a memo depends on how many messages are currently stored by the answerer.

TWO-WAY RECORD

Two-Way Record allows you to record both sides of a phone conversation.

1. Pick up an extension phone or answer a call before the machine answers the call. Please note, a phone must be off the hook.

2. Press and hold MEMO/ TWO WAY. Release after the announcement. The unit shows

3. Press and release the desired mailbox button. The conversation starts recording after the tone.

• To stop two-way record, press and release STOP or MEMO/TWO WAY.

The unit treats the 2-way recorded conversation as a message, as the MESSAGES counter and mailbox indicator show.

NOTE: The length of time for recording a conversation depends on how many messages are currently stored by the answerer.

SCREENING CALLS (AUTO DISCONNECT FEATURE)

You can screen incoming calls by listening as the caller leaves a message. If you want to talk to that caller, pick up any extension phone.

REMOTE ACCESS

You can access your answerer from any touch-tone phone by entering your 4-digit security code (the default security code is 0123). The remote functions do not work with rotary or push-button pulse-dialing phones. You can cut out the wallet-size remote card near the back of the User’s Guide so you know the touch-tone commands when you're picking up messages from another location.

To access your answerer:

1. Call your telephone number.

2. After you hear the beep that follows the greeting, enter your 4-digit security code. To bypass the greeting, you can enter your 4-digit security code at any time while the greeting is playing.

3. The unit plays the remote menu after the correct security code has been entered. Menu selections can be made at any time while the menu is playing.

NOTE: The unit answers on the 10th ring when it is turned off or the memory is full. To access the answerer, enter the 4-digit security code after the beep. If memory is full, play messages and erase some of them to restore memory. If the answerer is off, press 2 to turn it on.

NOTE: After the unit plays the remote menu, it will wait several seconds for a command, then disconnect.

GENERAL PRODUCT CARE

To keep your answerer working and looking good, follow these guidelines:

• Avoid putting it near heating appliances and devices that generate electrical noise (for example, motors or fluorescent lamps).

• DO NOT expose to direct sunlight or moisture.

• Avoid dropping answerer and/or other rough treatment.

• Clean with a soft cloth.

• Never use a strong cleaning agent or abrasive powder because this will damage the

finish.

• Retain the original packaging in case you need to ship it at a later date.

TELEPHONE NETWORK INFORMATION

Should your equipment cause trouble on your line which may harm the telephone network, the telephone company, where practicable, may notify you that temporary discontinuance of service may be required. Where prior notice is not practicable and the circumstances warrant such action, the telephone company may temporarily discontinue service immediately.

The telephone company may make changes in its communications facilities, equipment, operations or procedures where such action is required in the operation of its business. If these changes are expected to affect the use or performance of your telephone equipment, the telephone company will likely give you adequate notice to allow you to maintain uninterrupted service.

Notice must be given to the telephone company upon termination of your telephone from your line.

REN NUMBER

On the bottom of this equipment is a label indicating, among other information, the FCC Registration number and Ringer Equivalence Number (REN) for the equipment. You must, upon request, provide this information to your telephone company.

The REN is useful in determining the number of devices you may connect to your telephone line and still have all of these devices ring when your telephone number is called. In most (but not all) areas, the sum of the RENs of all devices connected to one line should not exceed 5. To be certain of the number of devices you may connect to your line as determined by the REN, you should contact your local telephone company.

TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS

Problem Explanation/Solution

Doesn’t answer, or answers on 10th ring • Make sure answerer is turned on.

• Memory is full, erase some messages.

• Check AC power and phone line connections.

Incoming messages are incomplete • Was an extension phone picked up?

• The caller left a message that is longer than the

message length you set during setup.

• You accidentally pressed a mailbox button

when you were playing the messages.

Won’t respond to remote commands • Must use touch-tone phone.

• Must enter correct security code.

• Did unit hang up? If you take no action for a

period of time, it automatically hangs up.

Answerer doesn't work • Unplug power cord from the electrical outlet

and plug it back in to reset the answerer. If that doesn’t work, unplug the power cord from the back of the unit and plug it back in. This is a complete reset.

Can't hear messages • Adjust volume control.

Unit announces “Battery Low” • Install a new 9-volt alkaline battery.

Can't restart message • You must play message for at least 5 seconds

before pressing PREVIOUS button.

Messages indicator flashes rapidly • Memory is full. Erase messages.

Battery good but messages were lost • Was the AC power supply unplugged from

back of unit?

Greeting continues to play even after • This is normal operation. Auto disconnect is an extension phone is picked up delayed for 2 seconds after the unit answers a

call. If you are near the unit, press STOP to stop the greeting.

Assurez-vous que la boîte contient les articles suivants:

Une prise modulaire RJ11 (CA11A), le type le plus courant de prise téléphonique qui ressemble à celle cicontre, est requise. Si aucune prise modulaire n’est installée, en faire installer une par la compagnie de téléphone.

INSTALLATION DE LA PILE

Lors des interruptions de courant, une pile de 9 volts (non comprise) permet au répondeur de sauvegarder les messages d’accueil et les messages mémorisés. Pour installer la pile :

1. Enlevez la porte du logement à pile à la base de l’appareil en desserrant la vis avec un tournevis Phillips. Soulevez la porte.

2. Branchez la pile alcaline de 9 volts (non comprise). Les gros et petit contacts de la pile s’enclenchent et la pile est bloquée en place. Placez ensuite la pile dans le logement.

3. Remettez la porte e place et serrez la vis.

3. Branchez la petite extrémité de l’alimentation dans la prise POWER 9V AC à l’arrière du répondeur. Branchez l’autre extrémité dans une prise de courant c.a. L’appareil émet 3 bips et est prêt pour la programmation ou pour répondre aux appels par le message d’accueil et les réglages par défaut.

1. Branchez le cordon téléphonique dans une prise murale modulaire.

2. Branchez le cordon téléphonique du téléphone dans la prise PHONE à l’arrière du répondeur. (Il n’est pas nécessaire de brancher le téléphone pour que le répondeur enregistre les messages reçus.)

• N’installez jamais le câblage téléphonique durant un orage

électrique.

• Ne touchez jamais les fils ou les

bornes téléphoniques non isolés, sauf si la ligne téléphonique a été

débranchée à l’interface réseau.

• Installez ou modifiez avec grand

soin les lignes téléphoniques.

ATTENTION : Utilisez seulement l’alimentation 5-2334A (blanc)/5-2418A (noir) Thomson qui accompagne cet appareil. L’utilisation d’autres alimentations peut endommager l’appareil.

INSTRUCTIONS IMPORTANTES SUR LE DÉPLACEMENT DU RÉPONDEUR :

Procédez comme suit pour déplacer le répondeur :

1. Débranchez la ligne téléphonique ou les téléphones raccordés à l’appareil.

2. Installez une pile, si ce n’est déjà fait. Vous sauvegarderez ainsi vos messages. Voir “ Installation de la pile ”.

3. Débranchez l’alimentation à la boîte électrique. NE DÉBRANCHEZ PAS LA FICHE ÉLECTRIQUE RACCORDÉE À L’APPAREIL, sans quoi vous effacerez la mémoire.

4. Déplacez l’appareil et la ligne téléphonique vers l’endroit désiré.

5. Branchez l’alimentation dans une prise de courant.

6. L’indicateur MESSAGES indique que les messages n’ont pas été effacés.

7. Branchez toutes les lignes téléphoniques nécessaires.

REMARQUE : Vous pouvez indiquer aux appelants de laisser leurs messages dans une boîte aux lettres particulière en appuyant sur le numéro de boîte désiré (1 à 4) après le message d’accueil. Si aucune boîte aux lettres n’est sélectionnée, les messages sont automatiquement enregistrés dans la boîte 1.

REMARQUE : Le message d’accueil doit durer 2 secondes ou plus pour être valide.

PROGRAMMATION

ENREGISTREMENT DU MESSAGE D’ACCUEIL

Avant d’utiliser le répondeur, enregistrez un message d’accueil (le message que les appelants entendent quand le répondeur répond). Vous pouvez enregistrer deux messages d’accueil. Si vous n’enregistrez pas de message d’accueil, les appelants entendent un message par défaut du genre “ After tone, record message”

(après le

signal, enregistrez votre message).

Vous pouvez enregistrer deux types de message d’accueil, un réservé à une boîte aux lettres, et un pour indiquer aux appelants de laisser leurs messages dans des boîtes aux lettres particulières. Cette fonction est particulièrement utile pour les familles actives ou les petites entreprises.

Lorsque vous enregistrez le message d’accueil, placezvous à environ 6 pouces de l’appareil. Vous obtiendrez ainsi un enregistrement de meilleure qualité. Éliminez autant que possible le bruit de fond.

Pour enregistrer les deux types de message d’accueil :

1. Préparez votre message d’accueil. Exemple de message d’accueil pour une seule boîte aux lettres : Bonjour, vous avez bien rejoint (votre nom). Je ne

EFFACEMENT DU MESSAGE D’ACCUEIL

Vous pouvez effacer votre message d’accueil de deux façons :

1. Pour effacer le message d’accueil pendant que vous l’écoutez, maintenez ERASE enfoncé jusqu’à ce que l’appareil annonce “Greeting Erased” (message d’accueil effacé). Enregistrez ensuite votre nouveau message d’accueil.

2. Pour enregistrer de nouveau votre message d’accueil à partir d’un point donné, maintenez GREETING A ou B enfoncé. Après la tonalité, enregistrez votre message. Relâchez GREETING A ou B quand vous avez terminé.

RETOUR AU MESSAGE D’ACCUEIL PAR DÉFAUT

Pour retourner au message d’accueil par défaut du répondeur après en avoir enregistré un, appuyez sur GREETING A ou B pendant 3 secondes. Maintenez la touche enfoncée jusqu’à ce que l’appareil émette des bips. Vous pouvez aussi maintenir ERASE enfoncé pendant que le message d’accueil joue.

RÉVISION DES RÉGLAGES

Cette fonction permet de revoir l’heure/jour actuels, le nombre de sonneries avant que le répondeur réponde, la durée des messages laissés et le code de sécurité. Appuyez sur la touche SET pour revoir les réglages actuels. L’appareil annonce les réglages actuels.

RÉGLAGE DES SONNERIES POUR RÉPONDRE

Cette fonction permet de programmer l’appareil pour qu’il réponde après un nombre précis de sonneries.

L’appareil annonce les sonneries pour répondre. Pour changer, appuyez sur NEXT ou PREVIOUS. Appuyez sur SET pour régler et passer à l’élément suivant.

1. Appuyez sur NEXT ou PREVIOUS jusqu’à ce que l’appareil annonce et affiche le nombre exact de sonneries avant que le répondeur réponde.

2. Une fois cette fonction programmée, appuyez sur SET. L’appareil annonce les sonneries pour répondre, puis passe au menu de durée des messages reçus.

ÉCONOMISEUR D’INTERURBAIN

L’économiseur d’interurbain est le dernier réglage du menu Sonneries pour répondre. Cette fonction permet de savoir si vous avez de nouveaux messages quand vous appelez le répondeur d’un téléphone éloigné. Si vous avez des nouveaux messages, l’appareil sonne deux fois avant de répondre. Si vous n’avez pas de messages, il sonne quatre fois. Vous pouvez alors raccrocher avant que le répondeur réponde et ainsi économiser les frais d’interurbain.

REMARQUE : Le compteur de messages indique 00 pour l’économiseur d’interurbain.

RÉGLAGE DU CODE DE SÉCURITÉ

Le code de sécurité est un corde programmable de 4 chiffres que vous pouvez utiliser pour accéder aux fonctions à distance.

IMPORTANT: La premier chiffre est programmé à l’usine à 0 et ne peut être changé.

L’appareil annonce le code de sécurité actuel. Pour changer, appuyez sur NEXT ou PREVIOUS. Appuyez sur SET pour régler et quitter.

1. Appuyez sur NEXT ou PREVIOUS pour choisir le deuxième chiffre (le premier chiffre ne peut être programmé). L’appareil annonce les 4 chiffres, mais seule le chiffre sélectionné change.

2. Une fois le deuxième chiffre sélectionné, appuyez sur SET pour le sauvegarder et passez au troisième chiffre.

3. Appuyez sur NEXT ou PREVIOUS pour choisir le troisième chiffre. Seul le troisième chiffre change.

RÉGLAGE DE LA DURÉE DES MESSAGES REÇUS

La durée des messages est le temps dont disposent (en minutes) les appelants pour laisser un message.

L’appareil annonce et affiche la durée des messages actuelle. Pour changer, appuyez sur NEXT ou PREVIOUS. Appuyez sur SET pour régler et passer à l’élément suivant.

1. Appuyez sur NEXT ou PREVIOUS jusqu’à ce que l’appareil annonce et affiche la durée des messages exacte.

2. Appuyez sur SET une fois que la durée des messages est réglée. L’appareil annonce la durée des messages, puis passe au menu de code de sécurité.

INDICATEUR ANSWER ON/OFF

L’indicateur ANSWER ON/OFF indique si le répondeur est en ou hors fonction. Quand il est désactivé, le répondeur répond après 10 sonneries, mais ne fait pas jouer le message d’accueil. Le répondeur ne prend pas les messages quand il est désactivé.

Indicateur en fonction - Le répondeur est activé et répondra aux appels selon le réglage

Sonneries pour répondre.

Indicateur hors fonction - Le répondeur est désactivé, mais vous avez peut-être des

messages.

REMARQUE : Vous pouvez écouter les messages, revoir/changer les réglages et revoir/ changer le message d’accueil, même si le répondeur est désactivé.

clignotant - Vous avez des nouveaux messages. Il indique le nombre total de nouveaux et d’anciens messages.

• Le compteur MESSAGES affiche une barre (-) - L’appareil est désactivé.

• Un “ F ” clignote dans le compteur MESSAGES à l’afficheur - La mémoire est pleine.

REMARQUE : Pendant que les messages jouent, le compteur MESSAGES affiche les messages dans l’ordre de réception.

INDICATEURS DE BOÎTE AUX LETTRES

Les indicateur de boîte aux lettres indiquent si vous avez des messages dans chacune des boîtes aux lettres et si ces messages sont nouveaux ou anciens.

• Indicateur en fonction - Aucun nouveau message, mais anciens messages.

• Indicateur hors fonction - Aucun message ou le répondeur est désactivé.

• Indicateur clignotant - Vous avez de nouveaux messages.

REMARQUE : Un ancien message est un message qui a été écouté au complet, incluant l’heure et le jour. Un nouveau message est un message qui N’A PAS été écouté au complet. Si vous interrompez un message avant l’indication d’heure et de jour, ce message est considéré comme un nouveau message.

• Pour continuer le message, maintenez PREVIOUS enfoncé.

• Appuyez sur PREVIOUS pour écouter un message antérieur.

• Pour passer au message suivant, appuyez sur NEXT.

• Pour avancer rapidement à l’intérieur d’un message, maintenez NEXT enfoncé.

• Appuyez sur ERASE pour effacer un message qui

joue. Le répondeur annonce “Message Erased” (message effacé ) pour confirmer l’effacement du message.

CONSEIL : Vous pouvez interrompre l’effacement d’un message que vous venez de demander d’effacer en appuyant sur PREVIOUS avant que l’appareil annonce “ End of Messages” (fin des messages).

REMARQUE : Si vous écoutez les messages, les nouveaux jouent en premier, suivis des anciens, dans l’ordre de réception. Quand tous les messages sont anciens, les messages jouent dans l’ordre de réception.

DÉPLACEMENT DE MESSAGES

La fonction Déplacement de messages permet de facilement déplacer les messages d’une boîte aux lettres à l’autre.

1. Appuyez sur la touche de la boîte aux lettres où se trouve le message à déplacer.

2. Appuyez sur NEXT ou PREVIOUS jusqu’à ce que le message désiré joue.

3. Appuyez sur la touche de la boîte aux lettres où vous souhaitez déplacer le message. L’appareil annonce que le message a été déplacé.

4. Relâchez la touche de boîte aux lettres. Le message déplacé est maintenant considéré comme un “ nouveau ” message dans cette boîte aux lettres.

EXPLORATION DES MESSAGES

Cette fonction permet d’écouter les 5 premières secondes de chaque message d’une boîte aux lettres.

1. Appuyez sur SCAN. L’appareil indique Sc et vous demande de choisir une boîte aux lettres.

2. Appuyez sur la touche de boîte aux lettres désirée. L’appareil fait jouer les 5 premières secondes de chaque message de la boîte aux lettres. À la fin des messages, l’appareil quitte automatiquement le mode Exploration.

PENDANT L’EXPLORATION DES MESSAGES

• Appuyez sur STOP pour interrompre l’écoute.

• Pour écouter le message au complet, appuyez sur la

touche de la boîte aux lettres où se trouve le message avant que l’appareil ne passe au message suivant.

• Maintenez PREVIOUS enfoncé pour recommencer le message.

• Appuyez sur NEXT pour passer au message suivant.

• Pour effacer le message, maintenez ERASE enfoncé jusqu’à ce que l’appareil annonce que le message a été effacé.

• Pour déplacer le message vers une autre boîte aux

lettres, appuyez sur la touche de boîte aux lettres où vous souhaitez déplacer le message.

REMARQUE : Les nouveaux messages doivent être écoutés au complet, incluant l’heure et le jour,

avant qu’ils puissent être effacés, sans quoi l’appareil annonce qu’il n’y a pas de messages à effacer.

EFFACEMENT DE TOUS LES MESSAGES D’UNE BOÎTE AUX LETTRES

1. Maintenez ERASE enfoncé pendant que le répondeur ne fait pas jouer ou n’enregistre pas de messages. Le répondeur vous demandera de sélectionner une boîte aux lettres.

2. Appuyez sur la touche de boîte aux lettres où se trouvent les messages que vous souhaitez effacer. Le répondeur annonce que les messages ont été effacés.

CONSEIL : Vous pouvez interrompre l’effacement de tous les messages d’une boîte aux lettres en appuyant sur la touche de la boîte aux lettres que vous tentez d’effacer. Vous devez le faire avant de tenter d’exécuter une autre fonction.

REMARQUE : Si une boîte aux lettres contient des messages non écoutés, ceux-ci ne seront pas effacés par la fonction Tous les messages. Si une boîte aux lettres ne contient que des nouveaux messages, l’appareil annonce “ Zero messages erased” (aucun message effacé ).

POUR LAISSER UNE NOTE

Cette fonction permet de laisser une note dans une boîte aux lettres particulière.

1. Appuyez sur la touche MEMO/TWO WAY. L’appareil indique Lc et cous demande de choisir une boîte aux lettres.

2. Maintenez la touche de la boîte aux lettres désirée. Enregistrez votre note après le signal.

3. Relâchez la touche de la boîte aux lettres quand vous avez terminé. L’appareil traite les notes comme des messages, comme l’indiquent le compteur MESSAGES et l’indicateur de boîte aux lettres.

REMARQUE : La durée d’enregistrement d’une note dépend du nombre de messages que contient actuellement la mémoire du répondeur.

ENREGISTREMENT BIDIRECTIONNEL

Cette fonction permet d’enregistrer les deux interlocuteurs.

1. Décrochez un poste téléphonique ou répondez à un appel avant que le répondeur réponde. Notez qu’un téléphone doit être décroché.

2. Maintenez MEMO/TWO WAY enfoncé. L’appareil indique Lr et vous demande de choisir une boîte aux lettres.

ACCÈS À DISTANCE

Vous pouvez accéder au répondeur depuis tout téléphone Touch-Tone ; il suffit d’entrer votre code de sécurité à 4 chiffres (le code par défaut est 0123). Les fonctions à distance sont inaccessibles avec un téléphone à cadran rotatif, à poussoirs ou à impulsions. Vous pouvez découper la carte format poche vers la fin du guide de l’utilisateur afin de connaître les commandes à tonalité quand vous prenez vos messages de l’extérieur.

Pour accéder au répondeur :

1. Composez votre numéro de téléphone.

2. Après le bip suivant le message d’accueil, entrez votre code de sécurité à 4 chiffres. Pour contourner le message d’accueil, vous pouvez entrer votre code à 4 chiffres en tout temps pendant le message d’accueil.

3. L’appareil fait jouer le menu à distance après le code de sécurité approprié. Vous pouvez sélectionner des éléments du menu en tout temps pendant que le menu joue.

REMARQUE : L’appareil répond à la 10e sonnerie quand il est désactivé ou si la mémoire est pleine. Pour accéder au répondeur, entrez le code de sécurité à 4 chiffres après le bip. Si la mémoire est pleine, écoutez les messages et effacez-en quelquesuns pour rétablir la mémoire. Si le répondeur est désactivé, appuyez sur la touche 2 pour l’activer.

REMARQUE : Une fois qu’il a fait jouer le menu à distance, l’appareil attend quelques secondes que vous donniez une commande, puis coupe la communication.

SOINS ET ENTRETIEN

Voici quelques conseils simples pour préserver le bon fonctionnement et l’apparence de ce téléphone :

•Éviter de placer le téléphone près d’un appareil de chauffage ou d’un appareil produisant du bruit électrique (ex. : moteurs, lampes fluorescentes, etc.).

• Ne pas exposer le téléphone directement au soleil ou à l’humidité.

•Éviter d’échapper le combiné et de l’utiliser abusivement.

• Nettoyer le téléphone avec un chiffon doux. (Ne pas oublier de débrancher d’abord le téléphone de la prise murale.)

• Ne jamais utiliser un nettoyeur puissant ou une poudre abrasive afin de ne pas

endommager le fini.

• Conserver l’emballage original pour utilisation ultérieure.

NFORMATION SUR LE RÉSEAU TÉLÉPHONIQUE

Si cet appareil provoque des dérangements sur la ligne et, par conséquent, sur le réseau téléphonique, la compagnie de téléphone signalera, s’il y a lieu, qu’elle doit temporairement interrompre le service. Si elle est dans l’impossibilité de le faire et que les circonstances dictent une telle mesure, la compagnie de téléphone peut immédiatement interrompre le service pendant un certain temps.

La compagnie de téléphone peut apporter des changements à ses installations de télécommunications, à son équipement, à son exploitation ou à ses politiques si la poursuite des affaires nécessite de tels changements. Si l’on croit que ces changements influeront sur l’utilisation ou le rendement du téléphone, la compagnie doit donner un préavis suffisant pour permettre de maintenir le service.

Il faut aviser la compagnie de téléphone si l’on désire déconnecter son téléphone de façon permanente.

FACTEUR D’ÉQUIVALENCE DE SONNERIE

L’étiquette sous l’appareil indique notamment le numéro d’enregistrement FCC et le REN (facteur d’équivalence de sonnerie) de l’équipement. Vous devez, sur demande, fournir cette information à la compagnie de téléphone.

Le REN permet de déterminer le nombre d’appareils que vous pouvez raccorder à votre ligne téléphonique et qui sonneront quand votre numéro de téléphone est composé. Dans la plupart des régions (mais pas toutes), la somme des REN de tous les appareils raccordés à une ligne ne doit pas dépasser 5. Pour connaître le nombre d’appareils que vous pouvez raccorder à votre ligne, compte tenu du REN, communiquez avec votre compagnie de téléphone.

CONSEILS DE DÉPANNAGE

Ne répond pas, ou répond à la 10e sonnerie • Assurez-vous que le répondeur est activé.

• La mémoire est pleine, effacez quelques messages.

• Vérifiez le courant c.a. et les connexions de la

ligne téléphonique.

Messages reçus incomplets • Un poste a-t-il été décroché ?

• L’appelant a laissé un message dépassant la durée maximale permise.

• La mémoire est pleine.

• Vous avez accidentellement appuyé sur une touche de boîte aux lettres pendant que vous écoutiez les messages.

Ne répond pas aux commandes à distance • Vous devez utiliser un téléphone Touch-Tone.

• Vous devez entrer le bon code de sécurité.

• L’appareil a-t-il raccroché ? Si vous n’acheminez

pas de commandes pendant une période donnée, l’appareil raccroche automatiquement.

Le répondeur ne fonctionne pas • Débranchez le cordon d’alimentation de la prise de

courant et rebranchez-le pour rétablir le répondeur. Si le problème persiste, débranchez le cordon d’alimentation à l’arrière de l’appareil et rebranchez-le. Cette manœuvre rétablit complètement le répondeur.

Impossible d’entendre les messages • Réglez la commande de volume.

L’appareil annonce “Battery Low” (pile faible) • Installez une pile alcaline de 9 volts neuve.

Impossible de faire redémarrer un message • Vous devez faire jouer le message pendant au

moins 5 secondes avant d’appuyer sur la touche PREVIOUS.

L’indicateur de messages clignote rapidement • La mémoire est pleine. Effacez des messages.

La pile est bonne, mais les messages • L’alimentation c.a. a-t-elle été débranchée ont été perdus à l’arrière de l’appareil ?

Le message d’accueil continue même après • Condition normale. L’autorupteur est retardé

de

qu’un poste téléphonique a été décroché 2 secondes quand lecall. répondeur répond à un

appel. Si vous êtes près de l’appareil, appuyez sur STOP pour interrompre le message d’accueil.
