This is the original English Instruction Manual.
Please read these operating instructions carefully and observe the information they contain.
Use these operating instructions to familiarise yourself with the GARDENA Battery
Lawnmower, its proper use and the notes on safety.

For Safety reasons, children under the age of 16 as well as people who are not familiar with
the operating instructions, should not use the Battery Lawnmower. Persons with reduced
physical or mental abilities may use the product only if they are supervised or instructed by a
responsible person.

 Please keep these operating instructions in a safe place.

1. Where to Use Your GARDENA Battery Lawnmower

The GARDENA Battery Lawnmower is designed for cutting lawn
and grass areas of private houses.
Compliance with these instructions provided by GARDENA is a
prerequisite for using the battery lawnmower correctly.

2. Safety Instructions

Warning

Read the user instructions carefully to
make sure you understand all the
controls and what they do.

Always keep the product on the ground
when operating. Tilting or lifting the
product may cause stones to be thrown
out.

Keep bystanders away. Do not operate
whilst people especially children or
pets are in the area.

Beware of sharp blades - blades
continue to rotate after the machine is
switched off.

Remove plug from mains before
maintenance or if cable is damaged - or
in the case of a battery product,
remove safety key before maintenance.

Keep the cable supply away from the
cutting means. This warning does not
apply to battery products.

 Please read the notes on safety on the product.

Proper use

To prevent injury, the GARDENA Battery Lawnmower must
not be used for cutting and pruning of climbers or grass on
roofs

Please note

Checks before each operation:

Before use, an inspection is always to be
performed in order to determine that all nuts, bolts
and working tools are not worn down or damaged.
Worn down or damaged blades are to be replaced
in sets.
Do not use the battery lawnmower if safety
devices (switch handle, safety key, start button,
cover for cutting mechanism) and/or the cutting
blade is damaged or worn. Never operate the unit
with the safety devices bypassed or missing.
Inspect the surface on which the lawnmower is to
be used beforehand. Stones, pieces of wood and
wires, as well as other solid matter, must be
removed.
Objects, which are contacted by the blade, could
be thrown out uncontrollably or damage the
cutting mechanism.

Proper use / Responsibility:

Warning ! Take note that the rotating
blade could cause injuries
 Never place your hands or feet on or

under moving parts.

 Do not touch the blades before the disabling

device has been removed and the blades
have come to a complete stop.

Do not use the lawnmower while people,
especially children or animals, are directly nearby.
The operator is liable for damages.
When mowing embankments and slopes, special
care is to be taken:
 make sure you always have a safety distance

and wear shoes with a non-slip slole and long

trousers. Always cut diagonally to the slope.
 Do not mow on excessively steep slopes.
Take special care when moving backwards and
when pulling the lawnmower. Danger of
stumbling!
If, despite taking precautions, you stike an object
when working or the lawnmower starts to vibrate
vigorously, release the switch handle. Remove
the key and the battery from the socket. Remove
the blockage, check the lawnmower for any
damage and have it repaired if necessary.
 Only work when visibility is good.
Never leave the battery lawnmower unattended. If
you interrupt your work, remove the key and store
the lawnmower in a safe place.
Guide the lawnmower at a walking pace only.

Electric Security:

This Battery Lawnmower can cause
serious injuries!

 To prevent injuries, never start the

motor when the mower is tipped.
Never remove the battery while the motor is
running.

Only insert the key into the socket when you plan
to start working with the lawnmower.

Familiarise yourself with the surroundings of
your working area. Check for possible risks
which might not be audible due to the noise of
the machine.

Please observe the prescribed local quiet times.
When you interrupt work to move to another
working area, always switch off your battery
lawnmower and remove the key from the socket.
Do not operate your lawnmower near swimming
pools or garden ponds.
Never use the unit when it is raining or in damp or
wet areas.

Battery Security:

Danger! Short-circuit - fire risk!
 Contacts should never be bridged

with metal!
Danger of fire!
Never charge the battery anywhere near acids
and easily inflammable materials.
Danger of explosion!
Do not throw the used battery into fire under
any circumstances.
Only charge the battery with the charger
supplied! Using other charging units could
lead to damage and injury.
Protect the battery from excessive sunlight.
Using a charger other than the GARDENA
charger supplied releases GARDENA from all
liability and warranty claims.

Keep the charger in a dry place.
Only charge the battery in a dry place.
Only use the battery for the Battery Rechargable
Lawnmower.
The lawnmower cannot be started as long as the
charger is plugged in!
Protect the charging socket, battery, safety key
and charger against dirt and moisture.
The battery lawnmower may not be powered by
any battery other that the one supplied for it.
Under no circumstances use a battery that is not
rechargable.
If the battery develops a leak, remove the safety
key, put on cloves, remove the battery and
dispose of it.
Do not touch battery acid. If acid comes in contact
with the eyes, wash out immediately with water
and send for a doctor.

3. Assembly

1. Pull the lower handle bolt
until it locks into position.

2. Place the Spring and the
Pivot Block over the Bolt

Repeat for the other side.

3. Insert the Barrel Nut into the
Cam Lock .

4. Ensuring the Lower Handle is in
the correct position , insert the
Lower Handle on to the Bolt until it
is firmly fitted into the Pivot Block.

5. Place the Washer and Cam
Lock on to the Bolt and turn the
Cam Lock 3 times clockwise .

6. Fold down the Cam Lock
towards the handle . If the
Cam Lock isnʼt tightened: open
the Cam Lock, turn the Cam
Lock one more time and fold
down the Cam Lock until the
handle is secure.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

When received from the Manufacturer, the wheels are in a
raised position. Do not switch on the product before removing
from the raised position into position 5 .

7. The Cam Lock can be unlocked
and locked .

Repeat for the other side.

8. Insert the two Lower handle
plugs into the top of each of
the Lower handles.

1. Insert the Barrel Nut into the
Cam Lock .

2. Attach the Upper Handle to
the Lower Handle with the
Round Headed Bolt , Washer

and Cam Lock.

3. Turn the Cam Lock 3 times
clockwise .

4. Fold down the Cam Lock
towards the Handle . If the
Cam Lock isnʼt tightened: open
the Cam Lock, turn the Cam
Lock one more time and fold
down the Cam Lock until the
handle is secure.

5. The Cam Lock can be unlocked
and locked .

Repeat for the other side.

1. Locate the grassbox handle
into the slots in the grassbox
upper and push until it clicks
into position.

2. Looking at the underside of the
lid ensure the clips of the
grassbox handle are securely
located.

3. Locate the the grassbox halves
together by aligning the clips
Ensure all clips are correctly
located before clicking into
position.

4. Locate the grassbox lid onto the
assemble grassbox by
aligning the clips. Ensure all
clips are correctly located
before clicking into position.

1. Lift safety flap .

2. Make sure the discharge chute is clean and free from debris .

3. Locate fully assembled grassbox onto 2 location points at the rear
of the deck.

4. Locate safety flap onto the top of the grassbox. Ensure the
grassbox is securely located.

• Removal is the reverse procedure.

IMPORTANT !
AFTER FITTING ENSURE NO GAP REMAINS BETWEEN THE
SAFETY FLAP AND THE GRASSBOX.

For larger areas of grass where grass collection is not required you can
use your lawnmower without the grassbox. Ensure the Safety Flap is
fully closed. The design of the safety flap permits the cut grass to be
discharged downward behind the machine.

4. Function

The mowing time depends on the
height and moisture of the grass and
the charge of the battery.



Mow twice a week during the growing
season, your lawn will suffer if more
than a third of its length is cut at one
time.

5. Initial Operation

Before using for the first time, the battery must be fully charged.
The lithium-ion battery can be charged in any state of charge,

and the charging process can be interrupted at any time without
harming the battery (no memory effect).

Your product can be used to cut grass using the following
methods:-

Grassbox Fitted :- grass is collected effectively and compacted

into the grassbox.
Mulch Plug Fitted :- grass cuttings are finely chopped to return

nutrients to your lawn.
Rear Discharge :- Effectively cuts long grass with no need to

empty the grassbox.

Do Not Overload Your Mower

Mowing long thick grass may cause the motor speed to drop, you
will hear a change in the motor sound. If the motor speed drops
you may overload your lawnmower which may cause damage.
When mowing in long thick grass a first cut with the cutting height
set higher will help reduce the load. See Cutting Height Adjustment.

Overvoltage damages batteries and the battery
charger.
 Ensure the correct mains voltage.

Charging the battery

1. Insert the plug of the battery charger into a mains socket.

2. Insert the plug of the charger cable into the battery .

The charging indicator lamp on the battery charger lights
up red. The battery is being charged.

When the charging indicator lamp lights up green, the battery
is fully charged.

Charging times

4035 (battery 8836 / 3,0 Ah) :

4,5 hrs (90% charge) : 9 hrs (100% charge)

4041 (battery 8837 / 4,5 Ah) :

7,5 hrs (90% charge) : 15 hrs (100% charge)

3. First remove the charging cable from the charging socket and
then unplug the battery charger from the mains socket.

• Height of cut is adjusted by raising or lowering the wheels using the
height adjustment lever .

• There are five heights of cut on this product (27 - 65 mm).

Ensure that there is no dirt or moisture in the battery
socket and battery contacts.

Cutting height adjustment

A medium height of cut is recommended for most lawns. The
quality of your lawn will suffer and collection will be poor if you cut
too low.

1. Plug in the safety key .

2. Press and hold the lock-off button on
the switchbox, then squeeze one of
the Start/Stop levers towards the upper handle .

3. Continue to squeeze the start/stop lever towards the upper handle and
release the lock-off button.

1. Release the pressure on the Start/Stop lever.

1. Green LED light on:- Full battery capacity

(this light will switch
off after 20 seconds)

2. Yellow LED light on:- Half battery capacity

(this light will switch
off after 20 seconds)

3. Red LED light on:- Battery almost dis-charged

(this light will switch off
after 20 seconds)

4. Red LED light flashing:- Battery discharged,

switching on is not
possible.

There are two start/stop levers fitted. Either one can be used for
starting the lawnmower.

As the grassbox fills up, grass will be visible through the window .
When the window/grassbox is full it is time to empty the grassbox.

Please note:- When starting your lawnmower there will be a slight
delay after squeezing the lever and the lawnmower will build up to
full speed.

The switchbox is provided with a lock-off button to prevent
accidental starting.

will show a sequence of lights to enable re-charging

8. Maintenance

7. Storage

1. Remove the battery and safety key (see 5. Initial Operation)

2. Clean the product (see 9. Maintenance)

3. Charge the battery and store it separately (see 5. Initial Operation)

4. Loosen the Cam Locks to enable the handles to be folded over the
product .

5. Store the product in a dry place protected from frost. Do not store
outdoors. Keep out of direct sunlight.

The product must not be added to normal household waste. It must be
disposed of in line with local environmental regulations.



Important: Make sure that the unit is disposed of via your municipal
recycling collection centre.

The GARDENA Battery Mower contains lithium-ion batteries that
should not be discarded with normal household waste at the end of
their life.

1. Discharge lithium-ion cells completely.

2. Dispose of lithium-ion cells properly.

12. Service / Warranty

GARDENA guarantees this product for 2 years (from date of
purchase). This guarantee covers all serious defects of the unit that
can be proved to be material or manufacturing faults. Under
warranty we will either replace the unit or repair it free of charge if
the following conditions apply:

• The unit must have been handled properly and in keeping with
the requirements of the operating instructions.

• Neither the purchaser or a non-authorised third party have
attempted to repair the unit.

The blade is a consumable and are not covered by the guarantee.
This manufacturerʼs guarantee does not affect the userʼs existing

warranty claims against the dealer/seller.

If a fault occurs with your Battery Lawnmower, please return the
faulty unit together with a copy of the receipt and a description of
the fault, with postage paid to one of the GARDENA Service
Centres listed on the back of these operating instructions.

causado por nuestros aparatos si ello es debido a una reparación incorrecta o si las piezas de repuesto no son genuinas o
aprobadas por GARDENA, y si las reparaciones no han sido realizadas por un Centro de Servicio GARDENA o por un
especialista autorizado. Lo mismo es aplicable a las piezas de repuesto y accesorios.

Salientamos expressamente que, de acordo com a lei de responsabilidade por equipamentos, não somos
responsáveis por quaisquer danos causados pelas nossas unidades caso estes se devam a uma reparação
inadequada ou se os componentes substituídos não forem componentes GARDENA originais ou componentes
aprovados por nós, e, se as reparações não forem realizadas por um centro de assistência GARDENA ou por um
técnico especializado autorizado. O mesmo princípio se aplica a peças sobressalentes e acessórios.
