CAUTION
indicated on the approval list ing in the Sp ec ification section of this manual. Such installation may cause a safety hazard and consequent injury or property damage.
When installing an add-on st ation, consult the sys tem layout diagrams at the end of this ma nual. These figures, when used in conjunct ion with the st ation ins tallation information and cable layout guide, should provide all the infor ma tion necessary to insta ll additional Pa ge/ Party< stations.
Do not install this equipment in hazardous areas or areas other than those
Enclos ure Placement
All GAI-Tronics Pa ge/ Party® units are wired in parallel. G ood system layout design minimizes the cable required for ea ch insta llation. GAI-Tronics multi-condu c tor cable, des igned especially for this applic ation, is recommended. The number, size, and color-coding of condu c tors are lis ted in the acc ompanying sys tem connection diagra ms .
System layout and power c able length are ver y important when inst alling Page/Party< equipment. Although it vari es f or differ ent systems, the general guideline is t hat t he t otal p ower cable length should not exceed one mile (5280 feet) for 115 V ac systems. The total cable length is the most important consideration while cable length between the sta tions is generally not a fa c tor.
Mounting
The Model 7335-004 Outdoor Non-metallic E PL Amplifier Enclosure is not supp lied wit h openings for conduit or cable becau se the pla c ement will vary acc ording to t he a pplica tion. Drill or punch thes e openings us ing the template supplied before mounting the enclosure. We highly recommend using only the bott om entry to p revent moisture from dripp ing onto the terminals or PC B As. The best loc ation for conduit holes is a long the bottom of the enclosure near the rear su rfa c e. If the top opening is to be used, c arefully seal around the fitting to prevent moisture from entering.
For specific details including mounting hole dimensions, refer t o Figur e 1 . There ar e fou r 7/ 16-inch diameter mounting holes in the corners of the amplifier enclosure. The suggested mounting height for a ll station enclosures is 54 inches (137 cm) to the centerline of the enclosure.

Wiring
Attach the conduit to the enclosure. F eed the wiring through the condu it and b ring it into the enclosu re. See Figu re 2. Follow the wir e colors carefully beca use the colors correspond to GAI- Tronic s 60029 Series multi-p arty cab l e. The wir es mu st be s pade-lugged and connected s ecurely to the termina l block. An improper termination ca n result in diminished station performa nc e.
Local Muting
Figure 2 illus trates local speaker muti ng when stat ions are completely assembled and paging operation occurs. N ormally, when t he s tation but ton is pressed, the paging spea ker connected t o that sta tion is silenced (muted) to pr event acoustic feedback to the handset microphone. H owever, while the handset is in use for party line conversations, the paging speaker is “live” t o enable pa ging c alls from other s tat ions.
To d i sa ble th e mute f eatur e, fol l o w thes e i n struction s:
1. Locate the lugged violet wire attached to terminal point 7 (mute) on the terminal block within the
enclosure.
2. Transf er the lugged violet wire to terminal point 8 (Page L1). After any muting changes a re made, u npack the sta tion amplif ier and ins tall.
Mutual Muting
In the event that f eedback occu rs within an a rea and repositioning of the system speaker s does not help, mutual muting may be used to correct this problem.
The following steps will mutu ally mute the adjacent amplifiers /hands et s within a z one.
1. Ensure that the p u rple lugged wire is connect ed t o terminal 7 of TB 1 .
2. Connect terminal TB1- 7 of the ha ndset stat ion to TB1 -7 of t he s tat ion within the zone that is c ausing
feedback. This is done by u sing the sp are s ystem wire (orange conduc tor) f rom within the s ystem ca ble t h at ru n s between th e stat i o n s.

Maintenance
Regula r insp ection and a good pr eventive maintenance program will increase the relia bility of you r GAI-Tronics station. The GAI-Tronic s Field Service Depa rtment can formulate a service cont rac t suited to your fac ility’s s pecific need for preventive maintenance. I n addition, the following procedur e can be used to keep Page/Party
®
systems o perat i n g effectively .
WARNING
Before performing any of the following preventive maintenance steps, remove
all power from the station.
1. Remove the a mplifier f rom the enclo sure.
2. Visually check the int erior of the enclosure for signs of c ontamination suc h as du st, c ondens ation or
process liquid.
3. Using the No. 10440-002 Maintenance Cable, plug the amplifier into the connector in the enclosur e.
Check, and if necessary, adju st the amplifier t o ma x i mize performa nc e.
4. Reinstall the amplif ier in the enclosure. Ensure t hat a ll gaskets and hardwar e are in place. F ailur e t o
install the gaskets, which als o act as s pacer s, can result in da ma ge to the connectors on t he amplifiers and insi de t he enclosur es and ca n c aus e s ystem faults .
It may become necessary to re-terminate some or all of the enclosures in a system. If so, strip the wires bac k to clean c opper and connect only one wire to eac h c onnector to allow for eas i er fut ure troubleshooting.
If the equip ment requires service, c ontact your Regional Service Center for a return authorization number (RA# ) . Equi p ment should be s hipped prepaid to GAI-Tronic s with the return au thoriz ation numb er and a purchas e order numb er. If the equipment is u nder war ranty, repairs will be made wit hout charge. Please include a written explanation of all defects to as sist ou r technic ians in t heir tr oubleshoot ing ef f orts . Troubleshooti ng
The following t able lists some hints to aid technicians in trou bleshooting.
Problem Solution
Feedback occurs only duri ng page.
Crosstalk occurs.
1. If a speaker is clos e t o the station, try u sing the muting f eature in the amplifier
enclosure at the termina l blocks. Connect the violet wire a t TB 1-8 t o TB1- 7 . Refer to the wiring diagram.
2. Ensu re tha t speakers att ached to other stat ions located nearby are not point ed in
your direction. If changing the or ient ation of the other s peakers has no ef f ect, mutual muting may be required. Mu tual muting silences all the sp eakers within proximity to t he affected s tations during a p age from any one of the mutually muted st ations . Connect the orange wire (s pare) to the TB1-7 of all the stations to be mutually mut e d . N
OTE: If too many stat ions are selected, paging coverage can
be adversely affected.
3. Check line ter mina tions a t the line balance assembly. Li ne b alance assembly
connections are critical.
One or mor e system cable pai rs may b e i mproper l y ter min ated . Visually in spec t th e system cable connections for acc idental cross i ng of the cab le p airs or grounds.
