7265-101 Multi-Party Desktop Subset Quick Installation Guide

General Inf ormation and Av ailable Options
This guide covers the installation of the 7265-101 Page/Party
capability when installed with a remote amplifier. The desktop subset is designed for indoor applications, and includes a pressbar handset, a 5-position party line selector switch, and an internal speaker with volume control.

To install the desktop subset, simply plug the connector into the socket in the bottom of the 7245 series amplifier enclosure.
The following table lists some hints to aid technicians in troubleshooting:
Problem Solution
Integral speaker level requires adjustment.
Outgoing conversation level requires adjustment.
Station stays on-hook or off-hook.
Incoming conversation level requires adjustment.
Feedback/distortion (a hum or buzz on the line) occurs during all Page/Party
Feedback occurs during paging only.
Sidetone (hearing one’s own voice in the receiver of the handset) requires adjustment

station operation.
1. Adjust the volume control on the front of the subset.
2. Adjust the speaker volu me control at the amplifier. Adjust the microphone gain at the amplifier.
The reed switch may be defective. Test the reed switch for continuity by connecting an ohmmeter to the reed switch connector. Place the receiver portion of the handset into the cradle of the reed switch. The circuit should be closed. Remove the handset from the cradle. The circuit should be open.
Adjust the receiver volume contro l at the amplifier. Refer to the applicable amplifier manual.
1. Adjust the receiver sidetone at th e amplifier.
2. The line may be improperly terminated. Inspect the system cable for loose connections, shorts,
and grounds. Line balance assembly connections are critical.
Use the muting feature in th e amplifier enclosure at the terminal blocks. (Connect the viol et wire at terminal 8 to terminal 7.)
1. Adjust the receiver sidetone at the amplifier. Refer to the applicable amplifier manu al .
2. Check the system cable connect ions to the resistors in the line balance assembly are properly
terminated.

One or more system cable pairs may be improperly terminated. Visually inspect the system cable connections for accidental crossing of the cable pairs or grounds.
A defective handset/speaker a mpli fier p r inted circuit board assembly (PCBA) can cause numerous problems. If the Page/Party® station is not functioning properly, it may be worthwhile to try replacing the handset/speaker amplifier.
