Introduction
The Model 370-202 Interface Amplifier for Electro-Sound allows GAI-Tronics’ Page/Party® systems to
interf ace with GAI - Tronic s’ Elect ro-S ound systems. T his unit interconnect s two voice circuit s tha t are
dissimilar in voltage and/or impedance. The inter f ace amplifier is not just a matc hing transfor mer ; it a lso
includes a gain a djustment that c ompens ates f or differ ences in signal levels or per mit s use with a range of
signal level. I t can also b e u sed in other paging sys tems.

Mounting
The indoor enclosur e is not supplied with openings for condu it or cable. Drill or punch these openings
using t he s upplied t emplate before mounting the enclosure. W e recommend placing the conduit holes nea r
the rea r sur fac e o f the top o r bo tto m of the enclos ure. Avoid the t op center, as it may i n ter fere wi th t he
plug-in amplifier receptacle.
There are four 5/16-inch diameter mounting holes in the corners of the Model 372A Amplifier Enclosure
See Figu re 1. W hen mount i ng the enclosure, use cau tion to a void damaging the terminal blocks ins ide.
The suggested mounting height for all station enclosures is 54 inches (137 cm) to the bottom of the
enclosure.
Connect the conduit to the enclosure, then feed the wiring t hrough t he conduit int o the enclosure. When
wiring t he s tat ion, follow the wire colors carefully; the colors noted in Figure 2 correspond to GAI- Tronic s
60038 Series cable. The wires should be spade-lugged and connected prop erly to t he t erminal bl oc k. An
improper termination may result in diminished s tat ion performance.

Wiring a Model 370-202 Between a Page/Party® System and an Electro-Sound II System
Figure 2 shows the wir ing of a t hree-wire E lec tro-Sound s ystem interfaced t o a five-p arty Page/Party®
syst em. Handsets or headsets p l ugged into jack sta tions a re normally tied to part y line 5 but switch to the
page line whenever t he p age switc h on the hands et s or hea dsets is pus hed. The p ower source contains a
relay that disconnect s the coupling when no handset or heads et is plugged in and anot her relay for
switching b etween page and p arty lines.
The wiring shown in Figure 2 provides ac power to Model 471 Electro-Sound Power Source, Model 370202 Interface Amplifier Assembly, and Page/Party

Checkout and Adjustment
1. After the Model 370-202 is installed and connected to t he p ower, ver i f y that normal use of t he
Page/Party
®
system has not been affected by the addition of the Model 370-202 Interface Amplifier
Assembly. Make sure that t he G AI - Tronic s sidetone level (t he amount of tra nsmitted signal from the
microphone t hat is heard in t he receiver) is not substantia lly affected when the interface is connected to
the system.
If osc illation, distortion, or exc es sive sidetone occurs , check the M odel 370-202 installation wiring and
ensure that the Model 305-001 Line Balance Assembly is properly installed and connected. See
®
42004-139, the GAI-Tronics 700 Series Page/Party
Systems installat ion ma nual. If nor ma l opera tion
is not restored, proceed to S tep 3.
2. After the Model 370-202 Interface has been installed and connected to the Electro- Sound system and
®
the GAI-Tronics Page/Party
hear d over the page speakers on the Pa ge/ Party
syst em, verify that a page initiated from the Electro-S ound system can be
®
system.
3. After system basic operation has been verified, adjust the Model 370-202 Interface if necessary. First,
®
establish communications between the Elect ro-Sound system and the Page/P arty
handset station
nearest the interface. Follow Sub-steps A through C to complete the Model 370-202 adjustment.
Adjust ments are made through the p lugged acces s holes on the front cover.
A. The Balance Control is adjus ted for minimum sidetone a t the GAI- Tronic s station. To perfor m
this adjustment, blow into the microphone of the GAI- Tronic s hands et and adjust the balance
potentiometer on the Model 370-202 Interface to “null out” the microphone signal from the
receiver.
B. Adju st the Line to GAI-Tronics potent iometer until t he volu me of t he voice of the caller on the
Electro-Sou nd system is comparable to normal voice levels on the GAI-Tronics system. (See note
below).
C. Adjust the GAI-Tronics to Line p otentiometer u ntil the volume of the signal fr om t he GAI - Tronic s
syst em to E l ectro-Sound system is compa rab le to normal system voice levels. ( See note below).
N
OTE: If the LINETOGTC and/or the GTCTOLINE contr ols are s et too high, oscillation and
distortion may result. In t his event, decrease t hese control s ettings, rea djust the BALANCE
control as necessary, and res et the LINE
TOGTC and/ or the GTCTOLINE controls for optimum
levels below the point at which osc illation occ urs .

One-Way Operation
If the Model 370-202 Interface is only used for one- way communication, jump er wires loc ated on the
Model 370-202 two-way amplifier printed circuit card (69056-002) can be removed to improve amplifier
stability and per f ormance.
If the Model 370-202 is used for one-way communications ONLY, complete the following a djustments :
1. For Electro-Sound system to the GTC system, cut Jumper W-4.
2. For th e GT C sy stem page l i n e to Elect ro-Sou n d system or central amplif i er, cut Ju mper W-3 .
When the Model 370-202 is operated in a one-way mode, the BALANCE control will have no effect on
operation. W hen W- 4 is cut, only t he LINE
TOGTC control will be functional. The GTCTOLINE
potentiometer will b e active if W-3 is cut.
Model 370-202 Applications
In Figure 3, a Model 370-202 Interface allows the following options:
• paging to be initiated by either a Page/Party
®
station or a t hree-wire El ectro- Sound system
• two-wa y party line communication to occur at a pr earranged t i me
Further , where a three-wire Electro-Sou nd system (E lectro-Sound wit h p aging) is insta lled and more than
ten Page/Party
®
speaker amplifiers, (650 Series), are used to power the speakers, a Model 370-202
Interface is required. See 42004-072, the Electro-Sound Communications System installation manual, for
more information.
