General Information
The Model 370-201 Interface Amplifier allows GAI-Tronics’ Page/Party® systems to interface with
standard private telephone net works. This unit inter c onnects two voice circuits that are dissimilar in
voltage and/or impedance. The interface amplif ier is not just a matching transformer; it also includes a
gain a djustment t hat compens ates f or differ ences in signal levels, or permits use with a range of signal
level. It can also be used in other paging systems.

Mounting
The indoor enclosur e is not supplied with openings for condu it or cable. Drill or punch these openings
using t he s upplied t emplate before mounting the enclosure. W e recommend placing the conduit holes nea r
the rea r sur fac e o f the top o r bo tto m of the enclos ure. Avoid the t op center, as it may i n ter fere wi th t he
plug-in amplifier receptacle.
There are four 5/16-inch diameter mounting holes in the corners of the Model 372A Amplifier Enclosure
See Figu re 1. W hen mount i ng the enclosure, use cau tion to a void damaging the terminal blocks ins ide.
The suggested mounting height for all station enclosures is 54 inches (137 cm) to the bottom of the
enclosure.
Connect the conduit to the enclosure, and then feed the wiring through the condu it into t he enclosure.
When wiring t he s tat ion, follow the wire colors carefully. The color s noted in Figure 2, Figu re 3, and
Figure 4 correspond to GAI - Tronics 60038 Series cable. The wires should be spade-lugged and connected
properly to the termina l block. An improper terminat ion may resu lt in diminished station p erformance.

Wiring a Model 370-201 between a Page/Party® System and Telephone Lines
GAI-Tronics 60038-101 eight conductor ca ble is r ecommended for 372A enclosure connections. This
cab l e contains a 1 4 AWG twisted pair f or power c onnec tions (2 4 V dc or 120 V ac), a single 14 AWG
ground wire, an 18 AW G pair for G AI - Tr onic s pa ge or pa rty line connections, and three spa re 18 AW G
wires ( one t wis ted pair plu s single wire) . If ot her cable is us ed, make sure that the au dio wires

Checkout and Adjustment
1. After the Model 370-201 is installed and connected to t he p ower, ver i f y that normal use of t he
Page/Party
®
system has not been affected by the addition of the Model 370 Interface. Make sure that
the GAI-Tronic s sidetone level (the amount of transmitted signal from the microp hone t hat is heard in
the receiver) is not s ubstant ially affected when the inter f ace is connect ed to the system.
If osc illation, distortion, or exc es sive sidetone occurs , check the M odel 370 installation wiring and
ensure that the 305-001 Line Balance Assembly is properly installed and connected. See 42004-139,
®
the GAI-Tronics 700 Series Page/Party
Systems installat ion ma nual. If nor ma l opera tion is not
restored, proceed to S tep 3.
2. After the Model 370-201 has been connected to the P rivate Bra nc h Excha nge (PBX) extension, initiat e
a call to the P B X ex tension connected to the Model 370-201 Interface and verify the ability to carr y on
®
a conversation between the t elephone s ystem and t he Page/Party
system.
NOTE: The Model 370-201 Interface Amplifier is designed to connect a line fr om a PBX t o a

GAI-Tronics Pa ge/Pa rty
system. It is designed to match impedance and voltage levels of the 600-ohm
0 dBm telephone networ k and the 33-ohm 18 dBm GAI- Tr onic s system. This unit is not designed to b e
connected to the Pub lic Telephone switc hed Net work and is not FCC P art 68- approved.
3. After system basic operation has been verified, adjust the Model 370-201 Interface if necessary. First,
establish communications between the PBX and the Page/Party
®
handset station nea rest the interf ace.
Follow Sub-steps A through C to complete the Model 370-201 adjustment. Adjustments are made
thr ough the plu gged access holes on the front cover.
A. The Balance Control is adjus ted for minimum sidetone a t the GAI- Tronic s station. To perfor m
this adjustment, blow into the microphone of the GAI- Tronic s hands et and adjust the balance
potentiometer on the Model 370-201 Interface to “null out” the microphone signal from the
receiver.
B. Adju st the Line to GAI-Tronics potent iometer until t he volu me of t he voice of the caller on the
PBX is comparab le t o normal voice levels on the GAI - Tronic s system. See note below.
C. Adjust the GAI-Tronics to Line p otentiometer u ntil the volume of the signal fr om t he GAI - Tronic s
syst em to t he P B X line is c omparable to normal system voice levels. See note below.
OTE: If the LINETOGTC and/or the GTCTOLINE contr ols ar e s et too high, oscillation and
N
distortion may result. In t his event, decrease t hese control s ettings, rea djust the BALANCE
control as necessary, and res et the LINE
TOGTC and/ or the GTCTOLINE controls for optimum
levels below the point at which osc illation occ urs .

One-Way Operation
If the Model 370-201 Interface is only used for one- way communication, jump er wires loc ated on the
Model 370-201 two-way amplifier printed circuit card (69056-001) can be removed to improve amplifier
stability and per f ormance.
If the Model 370-201 is used for one-way communications ONLY, complete the following a djustments :
1. The telephone line/PBX paging por t, cut Ju mper W-4.
2. The GTC s ys tem page line to t elephone/ PBX Line or Central Amplif ier, cu t Jumper W-3.
When the Model 370-201 is operated in a one-way mode, the BALANCE control will have no effect on
operation. W hen W- 4 is cut, only t he LINE
TOGTC control will be functional. The GTCTOLINE
potentiometer will b e active if W-3 is cut.
