WHEN SHOULD YOU INSTALL A SOLID SIDE SLEEVE?
A solid-side wall sleeve allows for installation in thick exterior walls where the installation of room air units with side vents would affect performance and may even void the warranty.

Blocked side vents restrict air flow.
FRIEDRICH THRU-THE-WALL
Solid-side sleeve (no side vents) can be installed in thicker walls. Sleeve can be positioned flush with exterior wall.
Or with minimum intrusion into the room.
