User manual
Thank you for purchasing the Cub active subwoofer which has been designed to be used in a wide range of audio system applications, stereo or multichannel. It is ideally partnered with the matching Sib satellite loudspeaker for a system that combines high performance sound with elegance and discretion. In order to gain the maximum performance from this product it is essential that you read the following instructions thoroughly. We advise you to keep this guide so that you can consult it when needed.
Warning : The active subwoofer should not be exposed to water or moisture. Objects filled with water (such as fish tanks or plants pots) should not be placed on the enclosure
• Placement:
Position Cub close to the front main speakers, ideally in-between them. Cub was designed to work with a wide range of compact loudspeakers. We strongly recommend the Focal-JMlab Sib whose performance guarantees a high level of sound quality in stereo and home cinema configurations.

• Connection
Before connecting to the mains supply please check that the voltage selector switch and fuse value is correctly set to correspond with your supply voltage.
A - Hi-fi configuration:
Connection using the low-level inputs (“PRE OUT” outputs
from the preamplifier).
Connection using the high-level inputs
(loudspeakers output from the amplifier).
In the case of high-level connection, Cub should be connected to the amplifier using a high quality pure copper cable of at least 1.5mm. Connect the “+” from the amplifier to the “+” on the Cub (red) and the “-” from the amplifier to the “-” of the Cub (black).

1 - Plug in the AC power cord 2 - Slide the power switch to the “ON” or “STANDBY” position. The “ON” position is
permanently on: “STANDBY” automatically detects a music signal.
3 - Turn the “CROSSOVER” control three-quarters of the way to the right approximately
120Hz if you use the Focal-JMlab Sib
4 - Adjust the “VOLUME” setting to the desired level. 5 - Select the “PHASE” position that gives the most powerful bass.
Set up
B - Home theater configuration
Connect using the low-level inputs (“LFE” or “Subwoofer out” from the audio video amplifier).

The subwoofer produces no sound at
all. Check - in this order
- Is the mains cable connected?
- Is the wall-socket working?
- Is the subwoofer switched “On”?
- Is the standby selector switch set to Auto power - ie. “On”?
- Is music playing through the rest of the system?
- Is the volume high enough - at least 12 o’clock?
- Check the indicator light again - the subwoofer should now be working.
If nothing still happens ...
- Is the signal reaching the subwoofer’s amplifier?
- Check the following : are all the
connections made correctly?
See connection.
Check - in this order
- On the subwoofer: Is the amplifier output connected to the Line In sockets? Out?
- On the amplifier or A/V processor: Are the cables to the subwoofer
properly connected to the correct output sockets? (“Preamplifier Out” or
“Subwoofer”).
The indicator light does not alwayslight up
- Check the mains fuse - if necessary replace it with one of the same value. (NEVER use a fuse of a higher value).
If there is still no sound
- The output signal from the amplifier is too small to trigger the automatic detection on the subwoofer.
Solutions:
1. If the subwoofer output level from
the amplifier or processor is variable, increase it to the point where it is high enough to be detected by the subwoofer’s input.
2. The processor or amplifier does not
allow the subwoofer signal to be adjusted, but instead has a fixed
output. With certain products
where the output level is too weak (approx. 250mV), and with certain subwoofers, it is possible to double the level of the signal by using a “Y” connector to input a signal into both subwoofer inputs - left and right.

Operational problems
The subwoofer works but cuts out on
loud peaks
- Too high a level.
Focal-JMlab subwoofers are equipped
with electronic protection that will cut the amplifier in case of overload generally caused by too high a
short-term peak level. In this case
check that the balance between the main speakers and the subwoofer is not set too high.
-
Input overload Overload of the input stages can occur if the output level from an adjustable output level amplifier or processor is too high - particularly in some top-ofthe-range processor/amplifiers. In this case, reduce the level of the subwoofer output, and compensate by increasing the subwoofer volume level.
The fuse blows repeatedly
Check the fuse value.
Caution: When changing from 230V to 115V, the fuse value must be changed. See the inscription on the amplifier panel.
