Safety Information
A Warning identies conditions and procedures that are dangerous to the user. A Caution identies conditions and procedures that can cause
dameage to the Product or the equipment under test.
 Warning
To prevent electrical shock, re, or personal injury:
• Read all safety information before you use the Product.
Do not alter the Product and use only as specied, or the protection supplied by the Product can be compromised.
• Comply with local and national safety codes. Use personal protective equipment (approved rubber gloves, face protection,
and ame-resistant clothes) to prevent shock and arc blast injury
where hazardous live conductors are exposed.
Do not exceed the Measurement Category (CAT) rating of the lowest rated individual component of a Product, probe, or accessory.
Measure a known voltage rst to make sure that the Product operates correctly.
• Hold the Product behind the tactile barrier when the 4 mm adapter A is not attached.
• Do not touch voltages >30 V ac rms, 42 V ac peak, or 60 V dc.
• Do not use the Product around explosive gas, vapor, or in damp or wet environments.
• Do not use the Product if it is altered or damaged.
• Do not use in CAT III or CAT IV environments without the adapters installed. The adapters decreases the exposed probe metal to
<4 mm. This decreases the possibility of arc ash from short
circuits.
• Do not make connections on hazardous live conductors in damp or wet environments.
Limit operation to the specied measurement category, voltage, or amperage ratings.
Do not use a shrouded banana jack accessory such as an alligator clip with an unshrouded 4 mm banana probe tip terminal in a hazardous electrical installation. Due to the lack of a shroud, the probe tip connector does not provide suitable insulation to accessible parts with this type of assembly.
Unpack
The Product includes these items:
• FTP-1 SureGrip Fused Test Probes (1 black for connecting to neutral voltage, 3 red for connecting to phase voltages)
• AC285 Alligator Clips (1 black, 3 red)
• Adapters that securely attach the Fluke AC285 alligator clips to the Fused Test Probes (4)
• FTP17XXPQ Instructions
At delivery, make sure that the shipment is complete and all items are undamaged. Contact your supplier if you see any damage.
Operation
To use:
1. Thread the adapter A onto the probe B.
2. Push on the alligator clip AC285 C securely for a rm connection for
CAT III/CAT IV measurements.

Maintenance
Clean the Product with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not immerse in liquid.
Fuse Information
To replace fuse:
1. Unscrew the handle at the nger guard D.
2. Replace the fuse.
Caution
For safety, replace with Fluke part number 803293 only.
3. Screw handle into place.
When the fuse is blown, a 1 MΩ parallel resistor allows the meter to take a measurement and indicate if live voltage is present. This measurement helps to prevent a possible misreading of no voltage present. The input
impedance of the meter has signicant e󰀨ect on the reading error. See
table below.
