The DSX-CHA003 coaxial adapters let you use the DSX CableAnalyzer™ to certify
coaxial cabling for network and video applications.
The coaxial cabling kit has these items:
Two DSX-CHA003 adapters
Two female to female F-connector adapters
Two F-connector female to BNC female adapters
One 12 inch (30 cm) 75 coaxial patch cord with male F-connectors
Safety Information
Warning
To prevent possible fire, electric shock, or personal injury, read the
safety information in the documentation supplied with the modules
and the Versiv
To prevent damage to the tester, adapters, and cables under test, to
prevent data loss, and to make sure your test results are as accurate
as possible, set the reference for coaxial cable before you use the
coaxial adapters for the first time, and approximately every thirty
days after that.

The reference procedure for coaxial tests sets the baseline for insertion loss and
resistance measurements. Set the reference at these times:
When you want to use the tester with a different module. The tester can save
reference values for eight different pairs of modules.
Every 30 days, at minimum. To ensure maximum accuracy of test results, set the
reference daily.
It is not necessary to set the reference again if you use different coaxial adapters.
To set the reference
1
Make the connections shown in Figure 1.
2
Turn on the tester and the remote a minimum of 1 minute before you set
the reference.
Notes
Set the reference only after the testers are at an ambient
temperature between 10 °C and 40 °C (50 °F and 104 °F).
The tester will not let you set the reference if the patch cord is longer
than 30 cm (12 in).
You can also set the reference with a 50 patch cord
3
On the home screen, select a copper cable test.
4
On the home screen, tap TOOLS, then tap Set Reference.
5
On the SET REFERENCE screen tap TEST.

Do Tests on Coaxial Cabling
Figure 2 shows typical connections for tests on coaxial cabling. Be sure to select the
test limit applicable to the link.
The Autotest includes these tests:
Length
Resistance (remote or terminator required)
Impedance
Insertion Loss (remote required)
Propagation delay
HDTDR analyzer
Note
The minimum cable length for an impedance measurement is
13 ft (4 m). For impedance measurements on shorter cables,
the tester shows Cable too short, and an for the impedance
and overall test results.
If No Remote is Connected
If the remote tester is not connected or the cable is too long, the main tester’s toner
turns on and the MEASURE button shows. If you tap MEASURE, the tester does the
length, impedance, and resistance tests, which do not require a remote. If a
terminator is connected, the tester gives a resistance measurement, but shows End
not found for the length measurement.

Maintenance and Service
Clean the adapters with a soft cloth that is moist with water or water and a mild
soap. Do not use abrasives, solvents, or alcohol.
If an adapter does not operate correctly, look for damage to the adapter’s
connectors. Make sure that the adapter is latched tightly to the tester.
For service on the adapters, speak to a Fluke Networks representative for
information on service centers.
For the most current test limits and features, keep your tester’s software up to date.
The latest version of software is available on the Fluke Networks website.
