recommended to read and review these instructions prior to installation.
BE SURE THE ENGINE IS COOL BEFORE PROCEEDING!
Start work on vehicle be removing the factory grill to expose the front side of the A/C condenser area. 1. This consists of twist-lock fasteners (4ea - 2 top and 2 bottom) turning counter-clockwise about 45 deg. to release. There is one bolt by the hood latch in the center. When these are loose, the grill has some snap clips (2ea - 1 right and 1 left side) out by the head lamps that can be “gently” pulled out to remove. The grill should come off in one piece. Note: this removal process works with the early generation. You may need to consult your maintenance manual for newer vehicles.
Remove existing cooler (if applicable): Because the existing cooler is designed to run through the radiator 2. tank for additional cooling, there is no longer a place to connect the transmission coolant lines. The replacement Flex-a-lite cooler 4118GMT is a higher capacity direct transmission cooler that will better meet your transmissions’ cooling needs and improve its life expectancy.
Disconnect the tubes from the OEM cooler by pulling out the retaining “C” clips with a pick or small flat-3. head screwdriver and remove the oil lines. Keep a drainage container and rags handy as the factory cooler still contains fluid.
Remove all the bolts holding the transmission cooler and existing brackets. Retain the factory bolts for later 4. installation.
Temperature sensor: There is an ambient sensor that “may” be located on the driver’s side of the cooler. 5. Unbolt but do not remove. Finish removing the cooler.

Installation instructions continued from previous page
Mount the cooler / bracket assembly into place at the lower factory mounting locations with the previously 7. removed factory bolts. (see Detail A)
Mounting the upper portion, some models may require drilling a 7/32” hole into the support and using the 8. provided self-tapping screws to mount. Note: Caution!! Do not go ALL the way thru the cooler support; this
could damage the A/C condenser. If this is not required, use the factory bolts for installation. (see Detail B)
Detail A
Insert bolts at bottom of brackets
while holding cooler assembly.
If drilling of support is needed, use
the top bracket slots as guides.
Detail B
Re-Install temperature sensor: Use the bracket contained in the kit to sandwich between the bolt and the 9. new cooler bracket in the lower driver’s side. Attach the temp sensor with proper side facing the grill.
Connect cooler line10. s:
For 4118GMT: Splice into the factory lines coming from the transmission. Use the hoses, barbed reduction couplers (3/8” to 5/16” hose I.D.), and hose clamps provided in the kit to connect the lines to the new cooler. For 41186GMT: Splice into the factory lines coming from the transmission. Attach line with 6AN female fitting (Not Included) to factory transmission lines using necessary hardware. Connect line to the new cooler.
Routing these lines to the passenger side is ideal. Trim hose length as necessary to provide clean fitment. Use provided nylon tie straps to secure routed hoses. Inspect hoses to be sure no rubbing occurs on sharp edges. Note: BE SURE that all moving parts of the engine, cooling fan and transmission cooling line
/ hoses (where applicable) are clear of each other before proceeding!!
We suggest following the vehicle manufacture’s recommended transmission fluid level checking and filling 11. procedure before operating the vehicle on the road.
