There should be a hole with a plastic plug cap. The one I was going to try to get some more lifts out of has no cap so I was going to use a wine cork whittled down. I also read that you don‘t have to use gear oil, but you can use regular motor oil.

disconnect the speakers, power back on, if it comes out of protect mode than check what's wrong with speakers. If still in protect unit needs service. possible output transistor issue or other component in the amp circuit.
