The VXA-172 PacketLoader is
the world’s only tape
autoloader to provide up to 1.7
TB, at 24 MB/sec and offer “on­demand capacity” through an
affordable and easy rmware
upgrade that increases
capacity up to 3.2 TB.

In addition to the “on-demand”
capacity, the VXA-172 Packet­Loader offers the scalability of
different media sizes (172 GB
X10 or 80 GB X6), lowering the
overall cost of ownership.

Packed with great features like:

1.7 TB capacity (upgradeable to

3.2TB), up to 24MB/s data rate,
built barcode reader, slim 1U
form factor, random library op­eration, multilingual LCD dis­play and user upgradeable
drive, the VXA-172 PacketLoad­er offers midrange features and

VXA Packet Technology

VXA Packet Technology writes and reads data
in small, digital packets, much like the Internet.
This is a signicant difference from all other tape
technologies, which rely on costly and
expensive track-based technologies.

VXA Packet Drives and Autoloaders offer:

• A Perfect Write™ and a 4 level Reed­Solomon Error Correction Code (ECC).

• Amazing transfer speeds — up to 86 GB per
hour — allowing network administrators to
backup 172 GB of data in under two hours.

• VXA X Tape are available in three different
cartridge capacities (40/80 GB and 86/172 GB),
providing VXA-172 users the exibility to choose
the capacity that best meets their current storage
and budget needs with the ability to add capacity
on demand, simply by using larger capacity
VXA Tapes.
VXA X Tape uses AME, which provides
signicantly longer tape life than other tape
technologies — 500 minimum uses — as
compared to only 99 maximum recommended
uses for DDS tapes.
