Setting up Your H9000R
Important Note: The H9000R lacks front panel controls, so all setup and
configuration is done remotely using Eventide’s “Emote” software, including the initial network setup.
You must use version 1.1 or higher of Emote when working with the H9000R. You may be able to view your H9000R in Emote using 1.0, but connecting to and controlling it without the 1.1 update is not supported.

Setting Up an H9000R With a Hard-Wired Connection
If you have connected the H9000R to your local network with a hard-wired Ethernet connection, no configuration is necessary on the H9000R side; it will simply appear on your local network when you launch the Emote software.
From there, you can continue to use Ethernet, or alternatively you may select a WiFi network for use with the included dongle.
Setting Up an H9000R With a Wireless Connection
If no Ethernet is present, you must create an initial connection between the H9000R and Emote, using a Wi-Fi access point, using the following steps:
Plug the included Wi-Fi dongle into any USB port on the H9000R.
Turn on the H9000R, while simultaneously pressing the front panel
“Network” button. This will activate the H9000R’s Wi-Fi access point at startup. (Note that booting with the “Network” held down will also
implement the “Clear Current State” recovery function. In this case, you

will user will lose whatever the machine’s current state was, but all saved data is unaffected.)
The network button’s LED will blink until startup is complete. At this time a wireless access point will have been created. The network name for this access point is your H9000R’s serial number.
Connect to this ad-hoc network on the computer that is running the Emote software. At this point the H9000R should appear as a device in Emote’s browser window. Click on the device in Emote’s browser column to connect.
Switching Networks
Switching networks from Emote requires a network handshake between the Emote software client and the physical H9000R device. This is done in order to prevent accidental disconnections, as well as any potential malicious H9000R hijacking.
The Network field under the Network tab in Setup will be greyed out. Click the field to bring up onscreen instructions on how to unlock it. Click “Accept” in the resulting dialog box.
You will then have 30 seconds to press the Network button on the H9000R’s front panel, which will unlock the Network selection field in Emote (it will now no longer be greyed out)
This generates a temporary encryption key, which is used to protect usernames and passwords sent via Emote. You will then have 2 minutes to select and connect to your main network, after which you would need to redo the handshake process to unlock it again.
When the network connects, quit the Emote software. Re-connect your Emote computer to your main network, re-open Emote, and re-connect to the

H9000R. You should now be connected to the H9000R on your main network.

Holding the ‘Network’ key at startup can be done at anytime to start the Access Point if you need to re-configure the network used by the H9000R. You can also toggle the Access Point on and off from within Emote, so if you already have a network set up, you can switch networks without needing to reboot.
Booting the H9000R in Recovery Mode
To access the “Recovery Mode” in H9000R, power on the hardware while inserting a paperclip into the small pinhole that is located to the right of the front panel Network button.
When the Network LED stops blinking, your device should be visible in the Emote software, displayed as the unit’s serial number, followed by the word “recovery”
You can connect to the hardware as usual, however the options presented in Emote, once connected, will be different than usual. You can access:
o The list of network software updates
o The USB updater (if a valid USB device was connected at boot)
o Functions for:
Clear Current State
Clear Persistence
USB State Dump.
To exit Recovery Mode, simply power cycle the device and it will boot into its normal state. If you’ve performed a software update, an option will appear to do this automatically from Emote.
The Network software updater can also be accessed during a normal boot, by clicking on the “Software Updates” button in Emote’s device info page. It works the same way as the version in Recovery Mode.
