Use the e nclosed DC-IN • 5V AC ada pter. Plug one end into t he socket on the ba ck of the radio a nd the oth er into the outl et. For em ergency bac kup, • pop in th ree AA batte ries into the b attery compa rtment on th e back of the Zon eGuard. Be s ure to follow t he polarit y diagrams .

STAY ALERT
The Zon eGuard send s you S.A.M .E. (Speci fic Area Mess age Encod ing) notifica tions for you r area. When al erts occur, light s flash, sirens b eep and mess ages are disp layed on the Zon eGuard to make su re everyone ’s in the know an d prepa red. Follow a ll the steps bel ow to stay aler t.

KNOW YOUR LIGHTS
When yo u receive a S.A .M.E. noti fication, a re d, orange or gree n light appea rs on the ZoneG uard, repres enting a WARNIN G, WATCH or ADV ISORY alert . The alert m essage will sim ultaneou sly scroll acr oss the displ ay.
WARNING (Red Light)
A WARNIN G is issued whe n a hazardous w eather or hydrol ogic event is occ urring, im minent or like ly. A WARNING means w eather condi tions pose a t hreat to life or pro perty. Peopl e in the path of th e storm need t o take protecti ve action.
WATCH (Orange Light)
A WATCH is used w hen the risk of a h azardous we ather or hydro logic event ha s increased s ignificantl y, but its occur rence, locat ion or timing i s still uncer tain. It is inte nded to provi de enough lea d time so thos e who need to set their p lans in motio n can do so. A WATCH mean s that hazar dous weathe r is possible . People sho uld have a plan of acti on in case a stor m threatens an d they shoul d listen for later i nformation a nd possibl e warnings es pecially wh en plann ing travel or o utdoor act ivities.

ADVIS ORY (Green Light)
An ADVI SORY is issued w hen a hazard ous weather or hydro logic event is o ccurring , imminent or l ikely. ADVISO RIES are for le ss serious co nditions th an WARNIN GS, that caus e significant i nconvenien ce and if cauti on is not exercis ed, could lea d to situatio ns that may threate n life or prope rty.
ENABLE/DISABLE S.A.M.E. AUDIO ALERTS
S.A .M.E. provi des many typ es of alerts —from tornad os and hu rricanes to fl ash floods an d tsunami wa rnings. ZoneGu ard gives you t he option to sel ectively en able/ disab le the audio (s iren/voice) t hat accompa nies these aler ts, with the e xception of tor nado and hur ricane warni ngs. Pleas e do so at your own r isk/discr etion. When disab led, ZoneGu ard will still d isplay aler t messages .

Press • < > to turn r adio ON, the n press <WB> (on left sid e). Press <• WB/ALERT> (on left side). T his turns of f the audio a nd puts Zone Guard in stan dby mode, so t he radio will aut omatically t urn back on w hen an alert m essage is receiv ed.
TUNE IN TO AM/FMRADIO
Press • < > to turn r adio ON, the n press <AM/FM> (on left si de). Adjus t volume with <• +/-> (on right s ide). Tune statio ns with < • shor t press. Auto t une with two -second pre ss. To store a stati on, press <• MEMORY> (on left side) a nd any of the b uttons mar ked 1 – 6. To retrieve a sta tion, press o ne of buttons 1-6.
